Messing Around

A/N: Also dedicated to lucky_99 because I was in a bad mood and didn't want to update all that much until I saw their nice comments. :)

After another sleepless night I woke up to go to school. I had just finished getting ready when I heard Aaron honk outside. I scurried passed Adam and Chace- I had no idea why he was here anyway. He had brought his own car with him- and into the driveway. I looked up to see a brand new black Lexus, instead of Aaron’s usual silver Jeep Wrangler.

I walked to the window, expecting to hear my friend freak out about his new ride, but then I saw Jake sitting in the driver’s seat. I guess it wasn't Aaron honking for me.

I would've rather seen Aaron.

He smirked when he noticed me and swung the passenger side door open for me without moving from his seat. I leaned half my body in to talk with him.

“What are you doing here?” I hissed.

He didn’t look phased at all as he smiled, “I’m picking you up.”

I glared at him, “Aaron picks me up for school, and I’m pretty sure you already knew that.”

“What if Aaron couldn’t pick you up today?” he inquired.

“Oh my god, what did you do to Aaron!” I exclaimed worriedly.

His eyes got wide when he realized what I just said and he dropped the cool act for a minute, “No! No, Aaron’s fine. I didn’t touch him!”

I let out a breath of relief and looked at him with softer eyes now. I breaifly wondered how I thought Jake hurt him anyway. He might've been a jerk, but he wasn't abusive. I quickly dismissed the thought and replied, “He’s coming to get me.”

“One day won’t kill either of you,” he shrugged, “He’s been ditching you for Jen lately anyway, as I remember.”

Anger flared inside me as I realized he was right. I bit my lower lip so I wouldn’t scream in fury or jealousy before I nodded. I knew he was using that just that get me to go with him, but he was right regardless.

“Just let me call Aaron first,” I sat onto his passenger seat looking out through the open door and dialed his number. He may have been ditching me lately, but I wasn't about to do the same without calling first.

“I’m so sorry!” he exclaimed hurriedly, “I have to pick up Jen I’ll be there in ten minutes.”

“It’s fine,” I sighed, “I was calling to tell you I already had a ride today.”

There was a long pause on the other end of the phone before he finally spoke in a quizzical voice, “Who’s taking you?”

I began to debate telling Aaron the truth. I never used to lie to him, but the second Chace kissed me that seemed to change all that. Chace, I growled in my head. I didn’t really have time to decide between honesty and lying as I saw Chace- speak of the devil- walk out of the house.

“Jake, got to go, bye,” I said rapidly as I swung my legs into the car and shut the door.

Apparently I shut it too hard because Chace immediately shot his head up. He quickly developed an odd expression of determination and anger which he plastered onto his face. He stomped over toward the car. Jake revved the engine, but it was too late.

Chace swung my door open and grabbed my unbuckled waist. He yanked me out of the car and into his arms. I felt his chest hard against my back as he continued to press us harder and harder against each other. I'm ashamed to say I kind of liked it.

“Let’s go Skye,” he hissed passed me at Jake.

Jake smirked innocently, enjoying Chace's anger a litte too much, “It’s no problem. I’ll drive her.”

“Get lost,” he snarled.

Suddenly his hand snatched mine as he dropped my waist. He dragged me to his black car. He quickly opened the door for me and although he was roughly pushing me in like a cop to a prisoner I found it gentlemanly. Well gentlemanly for Chace. After shutting the door he got in on his side. He had just gotten the key in the ignition and was about ready to drive when he looked down at my lap.

“Aren’t you going to buckle?” he furrowed his eyebrows in frustration. He looked so hot when he seemed to be thinking like that. –No! I thought screamed at myself, stop thinking about him like that. He’s not that attractive.

I was surprised by his sudden caring and deciding instead of answering his question I’d ask one of my own. It was the perfect time. He couldn’t deny me an answer because then I’d drive away with Jake, which he seemed to be very against for some reason.

“Why’d you drag me out of Jake’s car?” I inquired.

“I can’t drive until you buckle. I learned that in Driver’s Ed,” He forced a cocky smirk.

I narrowed my eyes at him, “You never took Driver’s Ed.”

We glared at each other for several minutes. Finally he gave in and leaned over me quickly to grab my belt. He strapped me in without my permission. He gripped the wheel so tight with his hands that they turned white as he slammed his head against the back of his seat with his eyes shut. He exhaled loudly and slowly before he finally opened his eyes and started to drive.

“Chace…” I whispered.

He took a deep breath and let it out before answering, “Yeah?” He sounded a lot calmer now.

I hesitated, unsure if I should ask this, but found the courage anyway, “Why do you keep kissing me?”

He pressed the brake at the stop sign we came up to. He then turned to me with a heartbreaking look of nonchalance in his eyes, “Does it matter?”

“I’d like to know,” I bit my lip in nervousness.

The car behind us honked and he began to drive again. This seemed to give him to courage to answer me.

He shrugged, “Just messing around with you.”

“Yeah, Okay,” I laughed shakily, almost breathlessly, and stared down at my lap. I let my hair make a curtain between us as I played with the fringe on my jean shorts.

My heart sunk to the bottom of my chest. Did he really just say that? The way he kissed me, I just assumed… and then it occurred to me; Chace kisses a lot of girls. A lot. He’s just like my brother. What the hell was I thinking even letting those lips touch mine? He couldn’t be trusted and I knew that.

Chace Mathews was enemy number one.

And always will be.

A/N: I might do the next chapter in Chace's POV. Would anyone be up to reading that? While you're answering that question, what do you guys think of Chace and Jake?
