Helena's P.O.V.

After being humiliated in the hallway by Ethan and his friends, I go outside. Losing my appetite, I needed to be by myself.

"Hey. Are you alright?" A voice next to me asks.

Not wanting to speak to him or anyone else I stay quiet.

Sighing he sits next to me. "You should ignore those preppy fucks. They have no idea what they are talking about."

I scoff. "Really? So, Kane is not going to pimp me out to you or the rest of his crew?" Tilting my head I look over at him.

Shrugging he responds. "Not right away. He will wait until he breaks you in then pass you around." He chuckles.

I stand up to leave, is he serious right now? Pulling me back by my hand he stands up. "Hey! Come back. I am just kidding."

Snatching my hand away I turn to glare at him. Donovan gives me an apologetic boyish smile. "Please, I am sorry. I did not mean to joke like that."

Sitting back down I look straight ahead of me not saying anything to him.

"So..." He says after a few minutes of silence.

"So -- what?" I ask not looking at him.

"Do you accept my apology?"

Thinking about it for a few seconds I say. "I guess."

"Thanks. I am sorry."

"Sorry for the joke or sorry for what my life is now?"

"For both." Responding which surprises me.

Knitting my eyebrows together I look at him. "What? I am."

"Why? Are you not in Kane's crew?"

"Yeah, you know I am -- and?"

"And? Well, are you not supposed to be a heartless prick like your leader?"

Donovan cocks his brow shaking his head laughing. "We all are not like Kane."

"Huh. Interesting." Muttering I turn my face away from him.

"Look Helena, I am truly sorry for what you are going through. Kane should not..." I cut himself off.

"Should not have saved me from being raped then threatened to kill my boyfr--, my ex if I did not break up with him so I can forever be with him?"

Donovan sighs as he scratches the back of his neck. "Yeah, except the part about saving you from being raped. No female should go through that." Hearing the sadness in his tone I look at him.

Donovan looks sad as if he is thinking over a memory but then masks it. "Anyways, I am not like Kane."

"I can tell. So, you do not agree with what he is doing to me?" Seriously wanting to know his point of view. Maybe I can get information from him about Kane.

He looks at me then looks away. "No but, there is no reasoning with him. Once Kane sets his mind to something --."

"He will kill anyone to keep it?" I cut in.

"Yeah, in this case." I hear him say lowly.

"You mean he has never done this to another girl?" Shocked to even think that I am the unfortunate girl Kane has done this to. Not that I ever want another girl to go through this at all.

"Nah. You are the only one he has ever shown interest in."

"Interest? Is that what you call it?" Scoffing again.

"Yeah, Kane – let me just say that he has never gone out of his way to do what he has done for you."

"You mean done to me?" Cocking my brow.

Scratching his neck, he chuckles. "Yeah. You are the first female that he would kill for."

"Literally and aren't I the lucky one." Rolling my eyes.

We both stay in silence. "Kane is not that bad." Donovan says quietly.

I start to laugh. "You are full of jokes today aren't you, Don."

"I am serious Helena. You do not know him."

"I do not want to know him. What do you not understand that he has made my life a living hell for the past week? He treats me like a sex slave without the sex, he treats me like his property, and he has no respect for me. Oh, let us not forget that he punishes and continues to threaten me with punishment if I do not listen to him. Tell me Donovan. What part of him is not 'that' bad?" I snap not being able to control my emotions. I cannot believe he is defending him. Well of course he is.

Donovan stares at me then looks down at the ground. "Kane has had a very hard upbringing, Helena. Half the things he has been through..." Pausing he then sighs deeply. "He does not know how to show love and affection. At least how we would."

"So, he shows his affection by mistreating me, being abusive and possessive?" I question.

"Yes."

"Great. What should I expect next when he falls in love with me? What am I saying? He is not capable of love."

Donovan glares at me. "He is. He just does not know how to express it in a normal way. Kane will do anything and everything to protect the people he cares about. Even if it is by killing them, just so they do not hurt anyone ever again." He grits, and this is a side of Donovan I have not seen yet.

We stare at each other for a while until I speak. "You know a different side of Kane that I have not and may never see Donovan. So, excuse me if I am not Team Kane."

"I do not blame you Helena but, know that even though Kane is a cold heartless prick, he will always protect you no matter what. Even if it means killing anyone who hurts you or takes a bullet for trying."

"You are forgetting that I have already experienced the killer side of him."

"Yeah, and he will do it repeatedly if need be. He may not show that he likes you the way you are used to but trust me. You are the first female that has ever gotten his attention the way you have. He has a need to protect and take care of you, even if you do not want him to."

"Why me Donovan? He could torment any other girl and he chose me."

Donovan stands up pulling out his phone then put it away after looking at it. "We should start heading in."

"Donovan. Do you know why he chose me?" I ask again standing up.

Turning around he looks in between my eyes. "It really is not my place to tell you. Just know that Kane would do anything and everything for you."

"Except let me go." I retort.

"I cannot argue with that." he furrows his brows together. "Look Helena, I know you do not like him..."

"I hate him, Donovan."

Ignoring what I said he continues. "...I know you have bad feelings towards him, I understand, but can I give you some advice?"

"Sure." maybe he can help me get away from Kane.

"Do not give him a reason to mistreat you. If he feels that he can trust you to not leave him or defy him, then he may lessen his hold on you. You already see how jealous and possessive he is towards you. He already warned all of us to stay the hell away from you, besides to guard and protect you. Nonetheless, if he sees any of us speak or look at you in a way he does not like, he will kill us."

Of course, he would threaten them. But his own crew?

"Are you saying that I am giving him a reason to abuse me and treat me like crap?"

"No. What I am saying is that you should choose your battles with him. Because if you do not then you will not win the war." With that he begins to walk away.

"Hey Donovan." Calling out before he can leave.

Stopping he turns around nodding his head at me. Walking towards him I ask him a question I have been asking myself since we started talking.

"Why are you telling me all of this? Will Kane hurt you if he found out you are trying to give me advice on how to handle him or even for talking to me?"

Donovan smirks and shrugs. "He won't. Plus, he trusts me to take care of you when he is not around. Now, come on before the bell rings." Turning around he begins to walk away again until I ask.

"Why does he trust you?"

Stopping he tilts his head to the side and answers my question. "Because Kane and I are brothers." Then continues to walk towards the school leaving me there with my mouth open.

"Kane and Donovan are brothers?"

Hello my readers, hope everyone had a great weekend. I was busy since my kids had Spring Break. Anyways, I wasn't going to update until sometime this week but I had the chapter in mind. It's short because it's another filler. Don't worry the next one may be longer...if I have the time.

So...new revelation...Donovan and Kane are brothers...shocker. Do you think Donovan will help Helena out with handling Kane? Will Helena take his advice and change how she is towards him so he doesn't mistreat her?
