Chapter Sixteen (Blake's POV)

Probably one the greatest showers I've ever taken if I do say so myself. I had never taken a shower with another person before, nor done more than just washing. Although, Danny had a little trouble staggering out of the tub after that.

"I hate you so much right now." Danny managed, placing a hand on his lower back. I dropped a towel on his head as I grabbed one for myself, drying my hair off.

"I love you too. Now hurry up and dry off. I don't feel safe leaving your brother alone in my house. I have this feeling that Rick's chosen his next prey and he probably won't give up now." I muttered, wrapping the towel around my waist. Danny made a face as he stood there with the towel on his head.

"Ugh, if Rick lays hands on him, I'm gonna sic your uncle on him."

"That's a scary threat, Danny. You should use it more often." I took the towel and dried off Danny's hair, making him huff childishly before he peeked at me past his hair and the towel.

"Did you talk to him or something?"

"Not in particular, why?"

"Dunno. I'm just wondering if he's thinking for himself or if he's just scared of you."

"That kid isn't scared of Rick. He's either really stupid or really cocky. Personally, I think it's both," I added with a smirk, watching Danny grin before I let the towel slid down behind him and I wrapped it around his waist, "No, he's thinking for himself, Danny. He actually cares about you, ya know? Even so that he wanted to make sure that his brother wasn't getting it on with some creepy perverted stranger."

"Speaking of getting it on," Danny drawled as we walked into the bedroom, "You didn't tell him about the other night, did you?" I shook my head as I got into my wardrobe, tossing him some clothes as I got some out for myself.

"Nah. And I'm not telling him about just now either. If this is how he reacts to a kiss, just think how he'll react if he finds out about that." I grunted, pulling my briefs on and a pair of black jeans.

"Yea, he'll probably try and get the whole world to hate me." Danny muttered a tad bitterly. I frowned and turned around, watching him pull on a pair of pajama pants. I walked up behind him and slid my arms around his torso, pulling him up against me.

"Whoa, not again! Twice in a row, you work like a bunny!" Danny cried in distress, pushing at my arms, but I held onto him tightly, holding him close as I kissed his head.

"No one hates you, Danny," I said quietly, making him stop, "You parents are just confused... They'll come to their senses eventually. Just give them time." Danny frowned a little, then tilted his head back to look up at me.

"Yea, right..."

"I bet you ten bucks."

"You're on." Danny snorted, shoving away from me gently and giving me that cute, crinkled nose scowl of his. I smirked and wrapped my arms around him again and pulled him into my lap on my bed.

"No! We're not doing it again!"

"Why not? You seemed to enjoy it a lot the last two times."

"NO! You pervert! You sick, perverted old man! You're worse than Hugh Hefner! Get off me!"

"Oh, now wait a minute. Hefner is pretty damn rich."

"And perverted. Did I mention perverted? Let go of me!" Danny managed to wiggle his way out of my arms, snatching up the shirt I gave him and tearing it on as he went for the door. I rolled my eyes, lunging to my feet and bolting after him.

"I hope you trip!" Danny barked at me as he ran for the stairs.

"I hope you trip because then I'll land on top-"

"Gross! Vic! Vic, your nephew is a fucking pedo! Beat him!" Danny yelled, running into the hallway, but by the time he reached the kitchen, I caught him around the waist and heaved him off the floor, making him gasp and push at my arms. I laughed and openly nuzzled his neck, kissing him a few times as he yelled at Vic, who waved his spatula at us.

"If you think you guys can run around hollering like a couple of puppies, I'll make a dog house in the backyard and stuff you both in it," He scolded, waving at me to set Danny on his feet, "Now calm down and get ready to sit down and eat. I made chicken stir fry tonight on request."

"Who's request?"

"Mine." Devin said from the kitchen table, making Danny and I glance over to see him sitting there with an almost comical stern look on his face as he drummed his fingers on the table. Danny's face flushed pink and he scowled at him.

"How long have you been there?"

"Long enough to see your homo frolicking."

"Oh, shut up. That's only happened once." Danny snorted, about to head over and sit down until the sound of the doorbell rang through the house. Vic frowned as he turned off the stove, glancing at me.

"Can you answer that?" He asked. I nodded and waved Danny off and he stuck his tongue out in response as I rolled my eyes and went to the door. I opened it and found Mrs. Carter on the door step, making me freeze.

She was dressed in a pair of corduroys and a red silk blouse, her pretty hair pulled back into a hairclip as she held a plastic bag of what looked like a bunch of clothes and at her feet was a sack of strange, but familiar trinkets.

"Mrs. Carter." I stated. Cherri smiled, but it was forced. She held the bag out to me.

"I brought over some of... Danny's things... I, uh, didn't quite know what to bring, but just some of his favorite stuff. Like his favorite video games, his toothbrush, one of his medals and I brought another bottle of his medication in case that one that he has runs out. I also slipped a refill slip in one of his pockets so he can get a refill if he needs one. Uhm..." She looked nervous, uneasy, afraid almost.

Crap. I wasn't wearing a shirt. That didn't help. I stepped to the side after taking the bags.

"Come in. We were just about to have dinner." I said. Cherri paused, glanced over her shoulder at her car, then nodded slowly as she came inside. I closed the door behind her and set the things down by the coat rack as I gestured for her to follow me. We headed into the kitchen where Vic had just finished setting the table, where Devin and Danny were once again- it never fails- arguing about something totally stupid.

"You're an ass. The shampoo smells great." Danny snorted, folding his arms over his chest.

"You smell like strawberries. And Blake smells like some kind of Old Spice Model. What the fuck is that? No, use something else." Devin argued, scowling at his twin, who returned the expression back tenfold.

"You use something else! You smell like you bath in Axe!"

"I do."

"Well, it fucking stinks!"

"Daniel Carter, watch your language, young man." Danny jerked his head up at the sound of his mother's voice. Devin looked up too, his expression surprised. Vic turned around and smiled.

"You must be Mrs. Carter. Hi, I'm Blake's uncle, Vic Patterson, but call me Vic." He reached out and shook Cherri's hand.

"Cherri Carter. It's a pleasure to meet you. This is such a nice house. I'd kill to have one of these beauties." She said casually. Vic grinned.

"There's two just like it for sale down the road. Consider it. They're pretty sturdy... Unless you have two teenagers dancing around, chasing each other like something off the Animal Planet." He added with a snort, eyeballing Danny and I, who glared at him to shut up and get back to cooking. Cherri laughed a little, then looked over at Danny, who had stood up when she made her presence known.

"Hi, Dannykins... Uh, how're you doin', pumpkin?" She asked. Man, she was one of those rare women who was actually sweet and caring. I was jealous again. Danny didn't exactly greet her right away and just walked over to her and seemed to catch her off guard as he gave her a hug. Cherri smiled sadly and held him close to her chest, kissing his head.

"Ohh, Danny. I love you so much and I miss you more than anything in the world..." She sighed, resting her cheek against his head. I felt like I was intruding for some reason. Like I didn't exactly have a right to witness this and I was about to leave, but Cherri caught my wrist and pulled me back.

"Now don't you go anywhere, young man," She scolded me, making me blink and look at my uncle Vic for help, but he held his hands up in surrender and continued with his cooking, "I want to talk to you too."

"Look, Mrs. Carter, with all due respect, if you're going to to give me a hate speech-"

"Hate speech? Heavens no," Cherri exclaimed, giving my shoulder a pat as she hugged Danny close to her, earning herself a curious stare from him, "I'm just telling you that you ought to keep taking care of my baby. You've probably already noticed that he's crazy. He also isn't very clean and leaves toothpaste everywhere. He may say he's not tired, but he is. He likes his eggs sunny side up and with burnt toast. He watches too much Spongebob sometimes and I swear it's rotting his brain, so limit TV  time to only three episodes in one day. Don't let him buy pop rocks. He likes putting them in coke bottles and shaking it up until it explodes in his face. Also, he cuddles in his sleep, so make sure you keep him nice and warm"

"Ma!" Danny cried, his face burning red with embarrassment. Cherri smiled, giving him a hip bump before looking at me.

"But most importantly, I want you to make sure that you love him more than anything else, you hear me?" She asked quietly. I blinked, then smiled at her.

"Will do, Cherri." I answered.

"Thank you." Cherri said softly and stood on her tip toes, giving me a kiss on the cheek that made me feel... unbelievable. I had never had anyone do that to me before and the feeling of having a parent actually give a damn was like dreaming.

"Thank you so much for taking care of my boy, Blake. Vic. I couldn't ask for better people to love my baby."

"Maaa, I'm too old to be your baby." Danny complained, then yelped as his mom hugged him around the neck, grinding her knuckles against his head playfully.

"You could be an eighty-five-years-old, pumpkin, and still be my baby boy." She smacked a kiss on his cheek, grinning as he wiggled away from her to huff and pout.

"Jeez. I'm never gonna feel grown up." Danny grumbled. His mom punched him playfully in the arm, then looked over at Devin, who was snickering.

"And you, mister," Devin jerked his head up at the tone of her voice, "The least you could do was call me and let me know where you were gonna be. You trying to give your ma a heart attack? I'd ground you, but I'm not mad enough. I'm just happy to see you both okay." She smiled again.

"If you'd like, you can stay for dinner. We were just gonna get started." Vic offered.

"I'd love to, but I have to get back and make sure Ace has his dinner or else I'll be have to deal with Mr. Grumpy Gus tonight." Cherri sighed. Danny looked at his mother.

"I take it I probably can't go home for a while?" He asked quietly. Cherri's face grew sad and she reached up, cupping Danny's face in her hands.

"Baby, you know your daddy loves you... He's just being an asshole right now. Let mama worry about him and you'll be home before you know it... That is, if you still want to." She added, glancing at me out the corner of her eye. Danny smiled and he hugged her again, making her smile and cuddle him back.

Man, this was sappy. But it was nice. After a while, Cherri bade us farewell and left us to have dinner in peace and quiet. Even Rick decided to skip out on us and give us our time. I was surprised. He must be having the worst hangover of his life.

But to be honest, I couldn't care less. I was focused on the fact that Danny was mine. And he always would be...
