"Now what I want to know is why it takes an hour and a half to use the bathroom?" I raise an eyebrow.

Currently, I'm sitting I'm sitting cross legged on Elle's bed, hanging out for the second last day of summer. I'm glad to know at least someone, so my first day of school on Monday won't be as chaotic.

"I was busy." She responds simply, shooting me the I have a secret look.

"Busy with what?" I chuckle, throwing popcorn at her.

"Something." She smiles back, "Besides, you did fine, didn't you?"

"No! I told you the story." I laugh and lean into one of the pillows on her bed.

"So was he really that hot?" She raises an eyebrow, "Dang, wish I would've been there."

"I swear if I would've touched him, my hand would've burned up." I laugh.

"Anyways, are you excited or nervous for school?" Elle questions.

"Jittery, I guess. You're basically the only one I know-"

"You know me chica." Parker casually strolls into the room and dives onto the bed.

"Alright make that two people." I shrug, "Two isn't that big of a number."

"What are you guys even doing anyways?" Parker questions, looking back and forth between the two of us.

"Talking shit about people, you in?" Elle raises an eyebrow.

"I'm down for that." He moves his feet and joins our circle, "Hey Lex, I have a nickname for you."

I raise an eyebrow, "And what would that be?"

"From now on." He begins, "You are my Sexy Lexy." A cocky smirk appears on his tanned face. Clearly, amusement based off of slowly dropped shattered pieces of my self esteem really makes him happy. Glad at least one of us find this funny. Actually make that two. Elle is currently laughing her head off right along side of her twin.

"Not in public I'm not." I chuckle.

He carelessly throws an arm around my shoulder and pulls me to him in a tight bone crushing side hug, "E, wouldn't we be the cutest couple?" He beams at her.

"Adorable," she responds, "Makes me want to puke rainbows. Besides, I thought you're taken? Bromance with Mason?" She chuckles.

He gasps and pushes me away from him teasingly, "Oh no, forgot about my main hoe! Sorry babe, guess you're single again." He pauses, "Unless you want to be my side hoe.?" With that, he wiggles his eyebrows up and down.

I chuck a pillow at his head, "You can go back to your bromance, I'm good."

"Seriously though, who can we set her up with?" Elle thinks out loud, "Parker, any ideas?" She drums her fingertips on the corner of the bed, deep in thought.

I roll my eyes.

First off, contrary to many other girls my age, I'm not one that feels completely and utterly lost if I'm single. I mean, seriously? You may be for the whole "two parts of a whole" thing, but I'm my own person, so why should I feel lost or different because I don't have someone posting pictures of me as a woman crush Wednesday every week. And why should I?

Society has lead us to believe that girls should dress to impress, and boys shouldn't show weakness or sensitivity. Society says to be yourself, but not like that. It wants us to have "taken" with a kiss emoji in our instagram bios.  Society has declared blue as the color for little baby boys and pink the color for little baby boys. In the end, society is to blame for the pointless deaths by kids who don't feel they fit in, and society is the villain. The only more villainous than society is us ourselves.

And we can't drown our demons. They know how to swim.

One internal monologue later. Damn, I'm good. I should be a fucking public speaker.

"Actually, I'm good." I chuckle as I grab my water bottle from Elle's bedside table, "We should focus on finding someone for you, if you're that interested in the subject."

"And that's where I'm out." Parker nods at us, "Unless you find someone, then Sexy Lexy?" I look at him and he continues, "You'd better let me know so I can kick his ass."

"I'm bored. We should do something." Elle yawns. I look towards her alarm clock. It reads 9:08. It's still early. Well. That is for the last sleepover of the summer.

"Well, what do you want to do then?" I look over at her.

She shrugs, "What's something you would do on a Saturday night in Cali?"

I grin, "Most likely a night of facials and then bring out the fake IDs and sneak into-" Parker walks in and I change up my sentence, "-the schools Pokémon club." Did schools even have those? And if so, did people actually join? "Yeah, there were some really cute guys at them, so me and my friends would sneak in and watch them from behind."

Parker gives me a blank stare, "Pokémon club Lexi? Really? How much of a dumbass do you think I am?"

Elle stifles a laugh and I shoot her a glare. Not helping.

"Mhm." I respond waving my hand in his face cockily, before ushering him out the door and closing it, "Sorry Park! We want to get started on facials!" I shout through the door, grinning from ear to ear.

Elle looks at me and bursts out laughing, "That was the first thing you could think of?"

I nod, "Wasn't kidding. Pokémon club is the place to be."

"For the sake of my increasing concern in the decreasing of your mental sanity, I'm going to assume you were kidding, and find my fake ID and stuff for the spa." She says happily.

I head to the bathroom. It was pure white, with lights lighting up around the mirror, giving it a toned glow. Seriously feels like Beyoncé's dressing room in here.

Five minutes later, Elle walks in, wearing short shorts and a loose plain T-shirt, "Here." She hands me a pile of comfortable looking clothes, "Go change." She gently closes the bathroom door and I head to her room. The shorts were fit perfect, and the top, while comfortable, was also kind of cute. It was a pale pastel green color and hugged my torso perfectly.

"I'm so ready for this." I smile in excitement.

One exfoliating scrub, a deep sea mud mask, a shower and shave, mani-pedis, and a eyebrow wax later, I'm ready to get ready.

"Parker!" Elle yells down the hallway.

"What?" He comes running into the bathroom. My eyes widen. He's wearing only a loose black towel that's now hanging loosely on his hips. Elle is oblivious to the serious man candy of a brother she has, "God, Elle. I was in the shower. You scared me." He runs a hand through his wet hair and slicks it back.

I wish I  was in that shower, foreign thoughts rang out in my head. I sneak glances at him.

He's beautiful, from his normally caramel hair, that looks dark brown like chocolate now that its wet, to the water droplets falling down the deep bulging muscles in his arms, to the towel just below a perfect V line.

"Are you done?" He winks at me.

He turns back to Elle, "What could seriously be so important that you yelled at me down the hallway and I had to run out of my shower and all the way down here. Hell, you're lucky enough I remembered to grab a towel!"

I wouldn't mind if he'd forgotten.

She takes a deep breath and looks at him with a glint in her eye, "I shaved, feel!" She grins cheekily.

He glares at her and turns to look at me again before exciting Elle's bathroom and back to his own.

I look at Elle and simultaneously we crack up. His face was worth millions with that expression. It'd probably be worth millions anyways, but with that expression it was worth so much more.

After layers of makeup, a heavy debate on clothing, and a quick stop at my house for my fake ID, the fun is ready to begin.

Decked out in heels, and short glittery dresses, we walk to the doors of the local club. The doorman stops us. I hold my breath, silently panicking. Then he smiles, "What are you beautiful young ladies doing without masks? It's a special night tonight. Masquerade. He hands Elle a white one, and gives me a black one. Mine is the color of ravens, while hers is the color of swans. They're beautiful and glittery and feathery.

The inside is packed. People dancing on the dance floor, people looking like their going to do a different type of dance, one without pants, soon enough, by the looks they're clearly giving their partners. Others stay towards the wall, talking in small groups of people. Across the room a group of guys stand casually talking. Elle and I brush past them. One stops and looks over. He's wearing dark pants and a loose navy shirt. His mask is jet black and his eyes a deep piercing blue. They bore into mine, and losing myself in their blue orb, I stare back.

Elle pauses and turns to me, "Lex? You coming? I'm gonna go talk to those guys over there." She waves and heads back the opposite direction, "Help yourself to the drinks!"

I chuckle and pour a beverage that is most definitely alcoholic into a red plastic cup.

Turning my head, I can tell he's still staring. Without knowing anyone yet at Pentingswood, I have no clue if he goes to my school or not. Maybe he's not even in school. I just should've gone with Elle.

Chuckling to myself at my stupidity, I decide to head to the dance floor near the middle. It's close to where I'm standing now anyways. A new song comes on and I sway my hips and raise my arms above my head. My eyelids close and within seconds my body moves to a song of its own, dancing naturally, occasionally pausing to take a drink.

The song ends. I breathe a sigh of relief. One dance down, no overly hormonal people trying to dance a tad to close. I smile. The smile drops when I realize the next song. A classic waltz.

"Everyone, please find a partner, next we're taking things down a level. Everyone's gotta join in, if you suck, well at least no one will know it's you sucking. New experience people." The announcers voice cuts in over the heavy bass of the speakers, "Turn to your right and meet your partner."

I close my eyes, mentally bracing myself for the sight of some pimply fifteen year old who thinks he's cool to sneak in her. They'res always one of them. Instead my eyes meet his again. The blue eyed boy who seems to keep sneaking up on my subconscious.

"I guess we're partners now. What's your name?" He asks, his voice a familiar velvet.

I smile up at him and wrap my arms around his neck, while he sets his hands on my hips, "Lexa. What's yours?" I sway more easily, the alcohol must be kicking in.

"Mason." He responds, "Why are you here? You don't look like the typical girls who come in here."

"Just looking for last minute fun before school. Fun has found me, I guess." I laugh curtly.

Oh god, what am I doing? I sound idiotic, to say the least.

"I just moved here." I continue. My goodness, I need to stop talking.

He smiles, showing off a full set of pearly white teeth, and then gazes into my eyes. My thoughts as his cyan eyes look into my chocolate ones, are what colors blue and brown would make.

The song ends, "So, I'll see you around?" He smiles at me once more.

"Mason, wait." I walk up to him and place my hands on his chest before pressing my lips to his. The second they connect, an unknown energy runs through me. My eyes widen, realizing the stupid move I just made.

What did I just do?

I shove him away and run, fast. Goodbye Mason.

Goodbye.
