Chapter 152 - Mating Threesome - Raine's POV

I finally felt whole again. Cage's strong arms were banded around me as I slept on his chest. We had taken short breaks in between our love making and another shower somewhere in there, but for majority of the time, his body had been firmly buried in mine. Even now. I didn't want to break our physical connection, ever. After our last frenzied session, I had been too tired and too comfortable to even move, so we fell asleep with him still inside of me. It was more than lust or even love. A deep peace settled in my bones at the very rightness of it. This was where he belonged, always.

I had shared almost everything with him about our time apart, certainly difficult details of my physical and emotional attachment to Marku. Those revelations hadn't been easy to say, but I wouldn't ever keep something as important as that a secret from him. He hadn't been thrilled, but I thought he'd understood.

There was one thing I hadn't told Cage—his baby was dead.  I wanted to. I was desperate for him to know; for us to begin to heal together, but I just couldn't.  Not yet.  The time was coming, soon, when he would have to grieve. He would be faced with the same crippling sorrow and heartache I was.  But we still had a fight ahead of us. Today, we were going to find Acheron and as soon as we did, Cage would once again be put in harms way.   Memories of the last fateful battle ran through my mind, crushing me.  Cage had been at full strength then, but we still lost and he had died.  It didn't matter how much I wanted him to know because there was no way I was going to take any chances with his life.  There was no way I was going to diminish his mental or emotional  strength  and fortitude even by an ounce right before stepping onto the battlefield.  I intimately understood the gut-wrenching damage that information would inflict on him.  Eventually, it couldn't be avoided but it could wait for a single day.  Until then, I would protect him at all costs and bear the burden alone.

He stirred beneath me. I felt his lips press gently on my head. His voice was thick with sleep as he whispered, "Dulce."

I snuggled closer.

The buzz of my cell phone interrupted our quiet time. But I knew it would. Brialle had said they would call an hour before we were scheduled to leave. Felaern needed to spend time with Cage, to discern where Lady Sofielle was being held, and to formulate a plan of attack to free her.

I whispered, "It's time."

He nodded, an equal expression of reluctance in his eyes, as I lifted off of him.
..........
After showering and changing, we made our way to a conference room where the rest of our group waited. I tugged on Cage's hand, pulling him toward the couch where Talon sat.  Cleanly shaven once again, Talon stood and embraced me, his body relaxing at our touch.  When I pulled back, Cage also gathered him in a warm embrace.  Talon had grown so much since I freed him from Seraphine, but he wasn't ready to be strong on his own, and it was clear these last two months without me had been hell for him. He still needed me close. Just as I needed him close. Outside of Cage, no one was more important to me than Talon.

Expression grim and calculating, Felaern lifted from his seat next to Brialle and joined us on the couch, sitting on the other side of Cage. Cage didn't flinch when Felaern pressed both of his hands to Cage's temples, feeling for the bond Lady Sofielle had planted in him, the roadmap that would lead us to her location.  Complete silence reined while we waited. Felaern's eyes closed and his head dropped as he held tightly and listened. After several minutes, he released Cage.

"Did you find her?" Killian asked tensely.

Felaern nodded, his expression hard.

"Has he moved location?" Cage asked.

"In a manner of speaking," Felaern's jaw clenched as he lifted and returned to his seat next to Brialle. She placed a hand on his arm, trying to keep him calm. "I believe that he resides within a complex portal. As such, his location remains stationary, but access in and out gets tricky and can change. You found it the first time because Skoldr was your guide. There is no doubt in my mind the only Fae powerful enough to create such a paradox in space is Sofielle."

"How did Marku find it?" I interjected.

Felaern ran a hand along his chin in contemplation. "It's possible the protections were weakened due to the fight, or Marku could have gotten lucky and stumbled into the right location, once he was close enough."

Killian was pacing the floor. He stopped and looked up. "So how will we be able to find a way in?"

"She has connected herself to Cage." Felaern replied, his mouth tight. "So, no matter if the doorway or entry point changes, I will be able to locate it because I can feel her inside of it."

I wasn't sure I liked the sound of his response, and interrupted, "Wait a minute. What do you mean 'she has connected herself'?" Felaern had always referred to it as a roadmap. I thought of it as a set of directions. I hadn't really considered she might have enacted a binding connection.

Felaern exhaled heavily. "It's like a mating threesome."

"What the fuck?" Cage muttered. "I've never heard of that."

"It is rare," Felaern acknowledged with furrowed brows. "But it can happen. I have even seen four complete a unique mate bond."

"Four...," I breathed quietly, unable to even fathom Cage and I having two additional mates.

Felaern continued, "It is even more rare in this circumstance because Fae are not usually able to connect to the type of bond vampires share.  We have a completely different mating ritual. That's why I say it is like a mating threesome...it's just the easiest way for you to conceptualize it, but it isn't a romantic connection, not for her."

Cage pressed, "It sounds like you feel confident this bond is sufficient to locate her, but once we free her, how do we go about extracting her out of our bond?"

"She will release it," Felaern assured us. That made me feel better.

..........

It was time to leave and I pulled Ileana to the side to speak privately. While I appreciated King Morenth's hospitality in accommodating our group for much longer than we expected, I wouldn't be able to just walk away if he was abusing Ileana. I gathered one of her hands in mine and squeezed lightly, forcing her to look at me. "How have they treated you?"

She didn't answer my question. Instead her face contorted and she replied, "I've missed you."

I pulled into my chest and held her close, whispering, "As have I, you." I still felt a deep connection to her. It was clear she felt the same. She released a little sob, her head buried in my neck. I rubbed her back soothingly, and waited for her to calm down. After a moment, she sniffled. I pulled away and asked softly, "Better?"

She nodded. I was glad she was no longer in tears, but I still needed an answer. "So, how has the King treated you? Is he kind? Has he abused you in any way?"

Her eyes tightened and I steeled myself for her answer. "No. He hasn't been ugly or mistreated me. On the outside, I'm sure it appears his behavior is just the opposite."

I raised a brow, still not sure what she was trying to say. "What do you mean?"

She sighed, "He says he wanted to get to know me better. He wants me to tell him about myself and he wants to do things for me, give me things."

"And you do not want him to do these things?" I asked carefully. "Why?"

She looked down and twisted her hands together, her voice barely above a whisper, "I don't know. I just don't trust his kindness. I have never known any man to be kind, especially in his position of power, who did anything truly for free. He must want something from me and I am not willing to give it, whatever it is. So, I don't engage in his questions, nor do I accept his gifts."

Oh. That made his reaction to her by the Pool much more clear. "If you don't mind my asking, what was his chosen question?"

She sighed. "He wanted to know what country I was a Queen of."

"And you hadn't told him this information before? With his wealth, surely he could have found this out, through his connections."

"True, but it seems to matter to him, that it be I, who shares the details about myself, to him. Since he keeps pestering me, I suspect he hasn't reached out to get the information himself. Apparently, he wants to keep playing the cat and mouse game with me."

I considered her words. Her answers could have been worse, far worse. I rubbed her arm and tried to encourage her, "I know you don't trust him, and you are wise to withhold trust until you feel it is completely earned. But he does seem to be physically caring for your needs appropriately. That's a good thing."

She barked out a sour laugh. "Oh, he definitely wants to physically care for me. The man's sexual appetite has no bounds."

I inhaled sharply. "Wait, are you saying is not acting appropriately to you?" I tried to understand.

She huffed, "The things that come out of his mouth..." She paused and flushed deeply, her cheeks turning a light pink.

My mouth dropped open slightly. I had never seen her flustered before. Not in that manner.  I didn't think any man could affect her like that.  I wondered what words she was remembering, to cause her to react like an embarrassed school girl. She didn't continue so I pressed, "Besides talking dirty to you, has he overstepped his bounds by touching you?"

She shook her head, and her eyes flashed. "No, he is well aware that I would remove his hand from his body if he tried."

I bit back my laughter. That sounded like the woman I knew. "What about Tavian? You kissed him...and other things..." I didn't know for sure what had occurred during their kiss, but I assumed this to be true, given Tavian's rock hard erection and his compulsion to block out their audience with his wings.

She looked thoughtful. "He is friendly, but he treads carefully around the King. Neither he nor I have told King Morenth about the kiss. And Tavian hasn't tried anything with me since, even though I get the impression he wants to."

I noticed she didn't deny the 'and more....' part of their kiss. "So you think the King would not respond well to the information you had a brief moment of intimacy?"

She nodded. "He seems quite jealous and possessive. His dragon is nice, through."

Oh, that piqued my interest. "What's his dragon like? Its strange to consider he has two completely different consciousnesses running through his mind."

She snorted, "His dragon is just as horny as he is, probably more. He loves to take me flying...and thinks it would be a fabulous idea for me to do it naked."

I couldn't hold in my laughter this time, and giggled.

She rolled her eyes, but she also smiled. So, she was softer with the dragon than with the man. Interesting. Our conversation helped. I wasn't quite so anxious about saying goodbye this time. I pulled her in for another hug and whispered, "I know it isn't what you wanted. I will be forever grateful to you for making this sacrifice to help me get Cage back."

She held me tightly. Cage walked up behind us and placed his hand on my lower spine. He murmured quietly, "It's time to go."

"Okay," I replied and gave Ileana one more squeeze before releasing her.
