❄️ ELYSIAN ❄️

TWO WEEKS LATER...

"Are you even a bodyguard? I haven't seen you an action till now...what if you are just pretending to be one to you know...get some money from my father?"

That's the consecutive third question she has asked me our the way to the elevator and it was the third question that I refused to answer.

Entering the elevator, I pressed the button to the penthouse and the doors closed slowly.

"You are ignoring me, asshole." From the corner of my eyes I watched her fold her arms across her chest.

Knowing she won't shut up until and unless I speak, I sighed. "What do you want me to do? Randomly start shooting people so you can see me in action?" I answered her previous question.

"Hmm...not really..." Then she became silent and spoke after a couple of seconds. "Bodyguards are supposed to protect their clients at all cost even at the risk of their own lives but I really doubt you would do that for me."

"If you die because of my mistake, I die because of your father. It's death in either cases."

And the elevator dinged and opened into the penthouse and I stepped aside, letting her walk out first and following behind her.

"What do you mean?" She turned around. "Would you rather die while saving me or die by my father?"

"Considering that I don't like your father much, I won't die by his hand but then I don't like you either..."

I removed my suit jacket and threw it on the couch. "I would rather leave you to die and then maybe run off somewhere where your father can't find me."

"You are really an asshole! How can you say that with a straight face?!" She came forward and jabbed me in the chest. "Then why are you my bodyguard in the first case if you won't protect me?"

God, she is really annoying. How I managed to survive these last two weeks with her is beyond my understanding. I should have been given a Nobel Prize for that.

Ignoring her, I started to walk towards the stairs only to be stopped when she appeared infront of me, blocking my way. She climbed up a few stairs to be at my height and she grabbed my collar pulling my face closer to her. "Answer my question, Mr Leonidas. Are you going to leave me to die?"

Why does she have to come so close everytime? It seriously messes up with my brain.

My lips pressed into a thin line and my eyes roamed her face, not knowing what to say.

My eyes met her hazel ones and for the first time I realised how beautiful her eyes really were. And her face, it looked so innocent despite her being a firecracker.

I had this urge to brush my fingers across her face, to feel how soft her skin really is.

Wait a damn minute. What am I even thinking about? Shit.

I gently wrapped my fingers around her wrist and removed her hand from my collar and clearing my throat, took a step back.

"Tell me...are you going to leave me to die?"

Aargh! Why is she hell bent upon knowing that?

I stepped past her and walked upstairs. "Time will tell."

Behind me, I heard her curse. "You asshole! I am going to tell this to dad!"

And my lips twitched, threatening to smile at her words. She might be twenty five but she acts like a kid.

"Aren't you scared that dad will scold you?" She once again asked standing at the bottom of the stairs.

Sighing, I walked inside my bedroom or should I say ours.

.
.

.

I pretended to be scrolling through my phone as I leaned against the headboard but in truth I was watching her rummaging through her clothes inside the walk in closet since the door was wide open.

"Are you going somewhere?" I questioned when she pulled out a dress not appropriate for going to bed.

She must have heard me, she definitely did but she ignored me completely and continued to hold the dress infront of her, watching herself in the mirror and she hummed in satisfaction.

"Where are you going?" I asked once again and kept down my phone.

She started to hum a song to herself and twirled around while holding the dress.

I gritted my teeth and marched up to the closet, stopping at its door where I lifted my hand and rested it on the top of the doorframe. "Farren." I called out her name for the first time making her halt with her back turned to me. And I forced myself to keep my voice not very harsh. "Where are you going at this hour?"

She shot me a glare over her shoulder. "You are such a hypocrite. It's not a big deal when you ignore my questions but when I ignore yours, you have to be so demanding."

"Yeah, because you ask irrelevant questions."

She placed the dress down and stood infront of me with her hands on her hips. "I don't ask irrelevant questions, they all are very important. Like I asked you yesterday if you are going to leave me to die and you said 'time will tell.' What does that even mean? I am concerned about myself here because my dad thought some stranger can keep me safe."

"Is that why you haven't said a single word to me since morning?" It's not like I was dying to hear her voice but it was weird since I have become acquainted with her habit to talk constantly.

She rolled her eyes. "Maybe. Now get out, I have to get ready."

"First tell me where you are going." I demanded.

She groaned loudly and threw up her hands in the air. "I am going to the club, happy?"

"Alone?"

"With Nora and Zeke."

Zeke. That stupid human. I seriously don't like that thing.

"I am coming with you."

"Why would you do that? We are going to hangout after a long time, don't butt in."

"I am your bodyguard, I am supposed to accompany you wherever you go."

"And you can enjoy with your friends. I'll stay in the corner, I won't disturb you." I added cause that was a main problem for her.

She became silent and thought about it for a minute before coming closer and shoving my chest making me step back. "Okay, fine. Get ready." And she slammed the door in my face.

.
.
.

I scanned the club, looking for any prominent danger as Farren left with her friends for the bar leaving me alone.

Worst part about this job, you have to spend a lot of time alone and you can't do anything about it. I should consider myself a little lucky that I got to married my client and she's so talkative that I don't feel much lonely.

Since I promised her that I won't disturb her I walked away from her, allowing her to enjoy with her friends and sat at one of the couches in the corner, keeping an eye on her.

I can't even drink cause I need to remain sober. And I can't risk anything.

A few of the people passed me a weird look for sitting alone and not even drinking and my jaw clenched.

Okay, they can go to hell. Focus on Farren. She's what's important right now.

She was sitting at the bar in between her friends talking animatedly with Nora while Zeke silently sipped on his drink, his eyes only and only on Nora, gazing at her with an intensity.

Huh. This is interesting. Isn't he interested in Farren? And as far as I remember, I always see Nora and Zeke arguing, they are like frienemies.

My attention drifted from them when a random woman took a seat beside me on the couch, her arms almost touching mine. "Hey there."

I shifted a little away and said awkwardly still keeping my eyes on Farren, "Hi."

"Are you alone?" She asked softly.

I gestured to Farren. "I'm here with my wife."

She looked displeased on hearing that. "Oh, I am sorry, I thought you were alone." And she scrambled from there making me sigh in relief.

I focused my full attention on Farren once again and this time she was looking here and there as if searching for someone before her gaze landed on me and she waved to me and gestured me to come to her.

She wasn't in any danger then why is she calling me?

I shook my head and leaned back further into the couch and she frowned at me and again gestured me to come to her and again I shook my head.

And she was instantly marching towards me. Great, here she comes.

She stood over me. "What's your problem? I called you there twice!"

"I am not interested."

"I could have been in danger."

I raised a brow. "Are you? You look completely fine to me."

She groaned. "You are an asshole."

"Thanks." I muttered dryly.

She exhaled loudly and this time she spoke in a surprisingly soft tone. "I might have asked you to not disturb me but you can join us, you know? You don't have to sit here all alone."

I was taken aback by her words. I didn't expect her to say all that.

I cleared my throat and ran my fingers through my hair. "It's okay. It's my job."

She shrugged. "Okay, as you wish. Keep brooding in the corner. And if you change your mind, you know where to find me."

I nodded and she left and a small smile touched my lips which I quickly wiped away. The hell am I smiling for?

Half an hour later, I was still sitting in the same position while Farren and co were dancing on the dance floor.

I kept scanning the area every minute and my eyes landed on someone who shouldn't be there and my eyes narrowed on him.

Hector had made me learn about some of the main men of the Caligos and this guy was a dangerous man and the way he kept looking around, I knew he was looking for Farren. Fuck.

I was on my feet instantly and I made my way to her on the dance floor. He hadn't spotted her yet so I can get her out of here without gaining his attention. There's no need of unnecessary bloodshed.

Farren's back was to me as she danced with Nora and Zeke and when they saw me approaching, I glared at them, silently telling them to leave her and they slowly took some steps back and Farren paused and followed their gaze and turned around to look at me.

Much to her confusion, I wrapped my arm around her waist and pulled her flush against my chest making her gasp softly. "What are you doing?"

I leaned down to whisper in her ears as I intertwined my fingers with her, keeping one hand around her waist. "Act normal. We are in danger."

"Are my friends in danger too?"

"No. He's just here for you, so please I beg you, obey me for now."

She gulped and nodded her head.

I started to gently sway her, keeping my eyes on that man and I turned Farren around as soon as he looked in our direction and made her take a step back towards the exit.

I leaned down and rested my chin on shoulder and her body tensed up. Her flowery scent hit my nose and fuck, she smelled so delicious.

Before I could stop myself, I was running the tip of my nose down her neck, taking in her smell and goosebumps erupted on her skin.

Realising what I was doing, I pulled back immediately and looked around instead and when I didn't find him anywhere, I started to drag her towards the exit. "C'mon."

The exit was within our reach when all of a sudden that man appeared at the exit, talking over his phone and my eyes widened.

Luck seemed to be on our side as he didn't spot us yet and I quickly pulled Farren closer to me and cradling the back of her head, buried her face in my chest.

What if they got the news of her getting married? What if they all recognise my face too?

He was scanning the whole room, searching for us and it won't be long when his eyes will fall on us.

I slowly lifted Farren's head. I can't believe I am about to say this. "Kiss me."

Her eyes widened to their full extent. "What the fuck?"

My jaw clenched and I closed my eyes to calm myself and leaned down to her. "Pretend to kiss me, Farren, if you wish to live."

"What kind of a perverted trick that is?"

I glared at her and she pursed her lips before leaning towards me until our lips almost brushed against each other and I swear I stopped breathing for a second.

This is not a kiss. This is definitely not a kiss, it's just for her protection and I should worry about other things but I wonder what a real kiss feels like. Does it make your heart go wild like this?

Farren leaned back a bit. "Is he gone?"

And I snapped out of whatever freaking weird trance I was in and I looked around and when I didn't find him, I nodded and dragged her out of there.
