"Ah, we have to find the Court of Miracles before daybreak." Phoebus groaned, crawling out from under the table.

"If Frollo gets there first—are you two coming with me?"

"Yes, of course!" (Y/n) said, eagerly.

"I can't." Quasimodo said.

"What?"

"I thought you were Esmeraldo's friend?" Phoebus accused.

"Frollo's my master. I can't disobey him again."

"But Quasi, he stood up for us." (Y/n) told him.

"You've got a funny way of showing gratitude." Phoebus said. "Well, I'm not going to sit by and watch Frollo massacre innocent people. You do what you think is right."

Phoebus made his way down the stairs and Quasimodo turned to see (Y/n) and the gargoyles looking at him disapprovingly.

"What? What am I supposed to do? Go out there and rescue the guy who's trying to take my sister away from the jaws of death, and the whole town will cheer like I'm some kind of a hero?"

"Take me away from you? Quasi, is that what you think?" (Y/n) asked in shock.

"Well, you've clearly got your knight in shining armor. You have no need for me anymore. Frollo was right. Frollo was right about everything. I'm tired of trying to be something I'm not."

"Quasi, just because I have someone new that I love in my life, doesn't take any love away from you. You're my brother. My brother who was always there for me when I was sick, or feeling sad. I'm never not going to want you in my life."

She grabbed his hand and pointed to his palm.

"Your not a monster, remember? I've always believed that you were just as human as me or anyone else. You're a kind, sweet and smart person who was always willing to do anything for the people he cared about. And right now, one of those people needs your help."

Quasimodo looked up into his sister's pleading eyes and sighed. He always had trouble saying 'no' to her, and she was right. He couldn't leave Esmeraldo and all those innocent gypsies to be killed.

Laverne tapped his shoulder and handed them cloaks. (Y/n) grabbed one and put it on, and Quasimodo grabbed his and looked at it.

"I must be out of my mind." He sighed, before throwing the cape on and following (Y/n).

...

Downstairs, Phoebus opened the door that led out of the church when (Y/n) and Quasimodo's faces appeared upside down in front of him.

"Phoebus!" They whispered, making him yelp.

"We're coming with you."

"Glad you changed your mind, Quasimodo."

"I'm not doing it for you or him. I'm doing it for (Y/n)."

"You know where he is?"

"Sort of. He said this would help us find him." (Y/n) pulled out the woven necklace Esmeraldo had given her.

"Good, good, good. Ah, great!" He held it up and smiled. "What is it?"

"I'm not sure." She shrugged.

Phoebus rubbed his chin. "Hmm. It must be some sort of code. Maybe it's Arabic? No, no. It's not Arabic. Maybe it's Ancient Greek?"

"When you were this woven band, you hold the city in your hand." (Y/n) whispered.

"What?" Quasimodo and Phoebus asked.

"It's the city."

"What are you talking about?" Phoebus asked.

"It's a map!" (Y/n) realized. "See, here's the cathedral and the river, and that little stone must be..."

"I've never seen a map that looks like that." Phoebus scoffed.

"We've lived in the bell tower for 20 years and I think we'd know what the city looks like from above." Quasimodo argued.

The two men kept going back and forth arguing and (Y/n) just rolled her eyes.

"Men." She sighed.

"This is it!"

"This is not it!"

(Y/n) pushed them away from each other and stepped in the middle. "Ladies, ladies, you're both pretty, but this squabbling is not getting us anywhere!" She snapped.

Phoebus and Quasimodo glared at each other and took deep breaths.

"Alright. Okay. If you say it's a map, fine. It's a map." Phoebus agreed.

(Y/n) smirked. "Thank you." She snatched the band away and started walking.

Quasimodo went to follow after her but Phoebus held him back.

"Look, if we're going to help your sister find Esmeraldo, we have to work together. Truce?" Phoebus asked.

"Well, okay." Quasimodo slapped his back, and Phoebus groaned. "Sorry."

"No you're not!"

...

The three made their way to a graveyard and approached the grave that had the same symbol as the band.

"This looks like the symbol on the map."

"But what does it mean?" Quasimodo asked.

"Hmm. I'm not sure." Phoebus said. "I can make out an inscription, but it's going to take a few minutes to translate it."

Quasimodo grabbed the cover of the grave and threw it off revealing a set of stairs.

"Yes, well. Or we could just go down those stairs." Phoebus added.

"Good work Quasi." (Y/n) complimented.

...

The three found themselves in a dark tunnel filled with skeletons and water.

"Is this the Court of Miracles?" Quasimodo asked.

"Offhand, I'd say it's the Court of Ankle Deep Sewage." Phoebus said.

"This looks like old catacombs." (Y/n) pointed out, holding her dress up so it wouldn't get wet.

"Cheerful place. Kinda makes ya wish you two got out more often, eh, Quasi? (Y/n)?"

"Oh, yeah. This view is way better." She responded sarcastically.

"I just want to warn Esmeraldo and get back to the bell tower before I get in more trouble." Quasimodo said.

"Speaking of trouble, we should have run into some by now." Phoebus noticed.

"What do you mean?"

"You know. A guard. A booby trap."

Suddenly, their torch was blown out.

"Or an ambush."

Lights came on, and above them were people dressed as skeletons holding their own torches. They jumped down and grabbed the three and pinned their arms back.

"Well, well, well. What have we here?" Clopin came forward and stood in front of them.

"Trespassers!"

"Spies!"

They growled.

"We're not spies!"

"You've got to listen—!"

"Please!"

The gypsies gagged them all before they could plead their case.

"Don't interrupt me. You're very clever to have found out hideaway. Unfortunately, you won't live to tell the tale."

🎵Clopin: "Maybe you've heard of a Terrible place, where the scoundrels of Paris collect in a lair."🎵

The three of them were tied up with ropes and glared at the gypsies.

🎵Clopin: "Maybe you've heard of that mythical place called the Court of Miracles."🎵

Clopin threw his arm around them.

🎵Clopin: "Hello, you're there!"🎵

🎵Chorus: "Where the lame can walk, and the blind can see."🎵

Skeletons hung down from the ceiling.

🎵Chorus: "But the dead don't talk."🎵

Clopin took a sword and sliced the skeletons heads off.

🎵Clopin: "So you won't be around to reveal what you found."🎵

The gypsies lifted them up and carried them down the catacombs.

🎵Chorus: "We have a method for spies and intruders, rather like hornets protecting their hive."🎵

🎵Clopin: "Here in the Court of Miracles. Where it's a miracle if you get out alive."🎵

They were taken into the Court of Miracles where all the gypsies were.

"Gather around everybody. There's good noose tonight!" Clopin announced.

"It's a triple header. A couple of Frollo's spies."

The crowd booed.

"And not just any spies. His captain of the guard, his loyal, bell-ringing henchman, and—!"

Clopin turned and took a good look at (Y/n) and paused for a moment.

"Now, hold on a moment." He grabbed a strand of her hair. Soft, (h/l), (h/c) hair..." he then grabbed her face and looked at her eyes. "Big (e/c) doe eyes...you're name wouldn't happen to be (Y/n) would it?"

(Y/n) nodded.

"Oh! Why you must be Esmeraldo's pretty new lady friend!" Clopin realized, clasping his hands together excitedly.

She nodded again.

"Well, why didn't you say so? I understand what's going on here. You must have come here for sanctuary, and these two scoundrels have taken you hostage!"

(Y/n) shook her head and tried to tell him that wasn't right, she couldn't with her gag.

"Hush, dear. You won't need to worry about these two ever again. You're safe now." Clopin crushed her into a hug, and stroked her hair.

"Friends, would you mind carrying this lovely young lady over to Esmeraldo's tent? I have a feeling he's going to be glad to see his little girlfriend, am I right?"

Clopin pushed (Y/n) off the platform and the crowd caught her and carried her off, with Quasimodo and Phoebus's muffled voices yelling after her.

"Now, where were we?" Clopin turned to Quasimodo and Phoebus who were having nooses put on their necks.

🎵Clopin: "Justice is swift in the Court of Miracles. I am the lawyer and judge all in one. We like to get the trial over with quickly because its the sentence that really the fun."🎵

Clopin mockingly out his hand to his ear. "Any last words?"

Quasimodo and Phoebus voices were muffled by their gags.

"That's what they all say."

🎵Clopin: "Now that we've seen all the evidence..."🎵

🎵"Wait I object!"🎵

His puppet announced.

🎵Clopin: "Overruled!"🎵

🎵Puppet: "I object."🎵

🎵Clopin: "Quiet!"🎵

🎵Puppet: "Dang..."🎵

🎵Clopin: "We find you totally innocent. Which is the worst crime of all."🎵

🎵Chorus: "So you're going to hang!"🎵

Clopin went to grab the lever, when a voice rang out in the crowd.

"Stop!"

Esmeraldo pushed his way through the crowd dragging (Y/n) behind him by her hand.

"These men aren't spies. They're our friends."

"Why didn't they say so?"

"We did say so!" Phoebus and Quasimodo snapped, after (Y/n) removed their gags.

"This is the soldier who saved the miller's family and Quasimodo helped me escape the cathedral."

They untied the men and Phoebus ran forward.

"We came to warn you! Frollo's coming! He says he knows where you're hiding, and he's attacking at dawn with a thousand men!"

"Then let's waste no time. We must leave immediately." Esmeraldo announced.

All the gypsies scurried off to collect their things.

Esmeraldo cupped (Y/n)'s cheeks. "You took a terrible risk coming here, little dove. It may not exactly show, but we're grateful."

"Well, if it weren't for (Y/n) and Quasimodo, we never would have found our way here." Phoebus said.

"Nor would I!"

Everyone turned and saw Frollo standing at the top of the stairs, a bunch of soldiers running down and surrounding the gypsies. Soldiers swarmed around Phoebus, Quasimodo, Esmeraldo, and (Y/n). Esmeraldo held (Y/n) close to his chest and tried to stop the guards from prying them apart, but it was no use.

"After twenty years of searching, the Court of Miracles is mine at last."

Frollo walked towards Quasimodo, (Y/n), Phoebus, and Esmeraldo.

"Dear, Quasimodo, I always knew you would someday be of use to me."

"No." Quasimodo breathed.

"What are you talking about?" Esmeraldo demanded.

"Why, he led me right to you, gypsy boy."

"You're a liar."

"And look what else I've caught in my net. Captain Phoebus, back from the dead. Another 'miracle', no doubt. I shall remedy that."

Frollo turned to face (Y/n). "Come along, my dear. These gypsy vermin will corrupt your soul no longer."

"No." She said.

Frollo froze and glared at her. "What did you just say to me, you insolent child?"

"I said no! What you're doing is wrong, these are innocent people!"

Frollo smacked her so hard across the face she fell to the floor.

"(Y/n)!" Esmeraldo struggled against the guards holding him.

"How dare you talk back to me you little brat! You think this boy cares about you? He's just using you! Don't tell me you actually care for this boy." Frollo gestured to Esmeraldo.

"Yes, I do! I love him!"

Esmeraldo's eyes widened and he smiled brightly. She loved him! She really loved him!

Frollo was shocked. He looked up and saw Esmeraldo's smile and his shock was quickly replaced with fury.

"Apparently, I am too late. His heathen ways have corrupted your soul to the point of no return! You have left me no choice but to take drastic measures." Frollo pulled her up by her arm and threw her to some soldiers.

"There will be a little bonfire in the square tomorrow. And you're all invited to attend. Lock them up!"

"No, please, master!" Quasimodo begged, grabbing onto Frollo's robes.

Frollo glared down at him and Quasimodo buried his face into the ground hopelessly.

"Take him back to the bell tower and make sure he stays there." Frollo ordered.

Two soldiers grabbed Quasimodo's arms and dragged him away.
