"Mom? Are you home?" I walked away from the window and looked around the house. First night in a new house and she's not even here for it.

Typical.

I walked over to the fridge to find some dinner but there wasn't much but a couple six packs and some cheese. I really should've gone to the store while I was out. I shut the refrigerator door and walked down the hall to my room. I don't know when or if my mom would be home but I was really tired so I decided not to wait up for her.

I woke up in the middle of the night to a loud crash in the living room. I opened the drawer on my dresser and pulled out a large knife. I usually kept one with me in my old house since things would sometimes get crazy with my family. I snuck out of my room and peaked around the corner. I saw my mom passed out on the floor. She must've just came in. I rolled my eyes and went to put the knife away in my room, then came back out to help her.

I picked up her arms and dragged her to the couch. I pulled a blanket over her legs and adjusted a pillow under her head, then went to make sure the door was locked. I picked up an empty beer bottle off the floor and threw it in the trash before checking the time.

I rubbed my eyes and yawned, remembering I had school in the morning. I went back to sleep and waited impatiently for morning to roll around so I could see Robin again.

"Get up you little prick." The blanket was pulled off my body, revealing the cold air against my skin. I groaned and sat up in my bed.

"Estoy despierta mama." I yelled. I pulled myself out of bed and looked through my closet for anything I would look remotely decent in. I picked out a pair of Jean shorts and a pink fitted shirt. I put on my jewelry, brushed my teeth, put my shoes on, grabbed my backpack and left without saying bye to mama.

As I walked down the street I heard a familiar voice in the distance. I guess I was so focused on looking presentable for school that I completely forgot Robin was walking me to school.

"Hey Lina!" He jogged over to me and gave me the purest smile I've ever seen.

"You're excited." I said. He seemed to be in a very happy mood.

"So excited to be stuck in a building full of racist morons." He said sarcastically. His commentary only made me feel more nervous.

"Oh but don't worry. It's not actually that horrible." He said again once he realized my nervousness. We eventually made it the school campus. It was super busy, kids flooded the building. As we walked, a guy had shoulder checked Robin but made it super unnoticeable. The guy and his friends walked away laughing and Robin glared at them.

"Hijo de puta." He mumbled under his breath. We continued walking but I could tell that his morning had been ruined so I decided to try making him feel better.

"I like your bandanna." I said, motioning to it. He smiled and rubbed his fingers over it.

"Yeah?" I nodded to his question.

"I'll keep that in mind." He said again.

"What's that supposed to mean?" I asked. He stepped in front of me and shrugged, then walked into his classroom. I scoffed and smiled, then turned into my class. I know I'm supposed to pay attention in class, especially as the new kid, but I couldn't stop thinking about Robin. I haven't even known him for a day yet but he's the nicest person I've met so far. Not long passed until the bell rang and it was time to go to lunch. I put my backpack in my locker and walked to the cafeteria hoping to find Robin.

"There you are. I've been lookin for you everywhere." I turned around to see Robin walking up to me. He grabbed my hand and led me over to a spot in the grass under a tree. There were two people already sitting down eating but they looked nice.

"Alright, this is Alina. Alina, this is Gwen and Finn." Robin said, sitting down. I sat down next to him and smiled at the two.

"I was starting to think you weren't real. When Robin said he met a pretty girl-" Gwen was interrupted by Robin. I laughed at Gwenny completely exposing Robin but I thought it was sweet.

"So you just moved here?" Finn asked. I nodded my head.

"From where?"

"Well I moved from Illinois but I was born in Mexico." I said. Finn and Gwenny were both very nice people. We talked all of lunch and I actually started to feel more comfortable being myself around them. The rest of the day wasn't bad at all. We even walked home with Finn and Gwenny. I guess Finn gets bullied a lot also. As we were walking a group of three boys looked like they were about to jump Finn. The walk with Robin back to my house was short but sweet. We had started talking about our favorite things. Colors, books, sports, movies.

"Have you ever seen The Texas Chainsaw Massacre?" He asked eagerly.

"I haven't. I want to though. I just think I'd get scared while watching it." I laughed and he kicked small rocks on the street as we walked.

"We could watch it sometime. I'd watch it with you, that movie never gets old to me." He said with a grin. We walked up to my front door and just as Robin was about to leave I stopped him.

"Do you, do you wanna come inside? If you're not busy we could watch it now." I asked. He smiled at me and accepted my request. He walked inside and I closed the door. Looking in every room of our one story house, I couldn't find my mom anywhere. I shrugged it off and went to the kitchen to try and find anything that we could snack on. As I was about to open the fridge, I found a note that read,

'Alina. I'll be at work until late tonight. Please don't eat all the food or kill yourself.' I scoffed and ripped the note off the fridge.

"Parents working?" I turned around and saw robin leaning against the counter with his arms folded.

"Yeah. My mom. She's never really home so it gets pretty lonely around here." I said with a slight laugh. He motioned to the tv and walked closer to me.

"I got the movie ready."

I opened the cabinet to look for food. I wasn't about to open the fridge full of beers in front of Robin. I really didn't want him to think my family was as fucked up as it is. I managed to find some popcorn and started making it. Robin had gone to the living room and set up everything. He was waiting patiently on the couch with a blanket and a pillow in his lap.

I brought over the bowl of popcorn and two waters for us. I turned off the lights and sat down next to Robin who was extremely excited. We shared a blanket and got comfortable on the couch.
