Skylar's POV

Do you know that feeling when you feel like you don't belong somewhere? When you feel like an outcast? Not really included? Yeah, that's how I was feeling right now. I was leaning against the wall in the living room which was filled with drunk people. Laura was supposed to be right back and bring us some drinks, but there was neither Laura nor the drinks.

I honestly don't understand why everyone likes to party. All they do is getting drunk, sleeping with some random people, and getting up the next morning with a massive hangover. Not to mention about those who are just waiting for you to do something embarrassing, so they can record it and post it on twitter or whatsoever.

While I was just awkwardly standing there and watching this circus in front of me, I suddenly felt hands on my waist.

"Why are you standing here all alone, little one?"

I felt someone's breath near my ear. I looked up to see a guy, a very handsome guy I ain't gonna lie but he wasn't that handsome. His hair was brown and a bit curly.

"I...I was..."

God, I'm so pathetic. I felt overwhelmed and couldn't make a proper sentence. He was a very intimidating guy.

He was standing so close, too close for my liking, and his hands were roaming over my waist. I was gawking at him with my wide eyes and didn't know what to do. He smelt like alcohol and cigarettes. What a combination... I didn't like it. I wanted to push him away but he had a strong grip on my body.

"What's your name?" He asked, eyeing me up and down with his barely open eyes, while trying to stand still.

Is he wired?

"S-skylar" I stuttered and he hummed in response.

He grabbed my hair strand and swirled it around his finger, humming.

"Such a beautiful name for such a beautiful girl." Ew I was just looking at him and wanted to go already. "Care to dance?"

When I was about to decline his offer, thank God Laura suddenly appeared and interupted our little encounter. She pulled me away from him and pulled closer to her instead.

I don't know what's with those men. Do they really think that if they flex their muscles and say some shitty pick up line, women will be throwing themselves on their necks? Well, maybe many would do that, but certainly not me.

"Leave her the fuck alone Jacob! Go back to your whores!" She hissed out.

So his name is Jacob.

"Why so harsh Laura? I just wanted to make a new friend here." He said with a cocky smile, looking at me and licking his lips.

"She already has one. She doesn't need such an asshole like you as a friend."

He didn't even had time to answer to that because Laura took my hand and started walking, leading us somewhere.

"Look, I'm sorry. I bumped into a friend and we chatted for a while." Laura said with an apologetic look on her face.

"It's okay, really."

She brought me into a room where a big couch was standing in the middle of it, a couple of armchairs, and some people were sitting on them.

"Hi guys! This is my new flatmate Skylar. Skylar, this is Jace, you met Alex, these beauties are Monica and Jessie and here is Flynn."

She pointed at everyone and I waved my small hand at them, smiling bashfully.

"Hey! Am I not a beauty too?" A guy with blonde hair and brown eyes asked, pouting.

Flynn, if I remember correctly.

"No Flynn, you're not." Laura said and everyone burst into laughter.

She obviously said that in a playful way and Flynn didn't seem to be offended. I can already tell that they are like closely-knit family.

Laura's friends are really nice. They all gave me millions of hugs. But while they were talking and laughing, I was just sitting there and watching them. I knew it would be like that. I get really annoyed when I have to go to some new place and everyone is like 'oh it will be great, you will meet someone there'. I know that, but the point is that they know one another longer than I do and they will discuss topics which I have no idea about, for example reminiscing some funny trips they went on together.

You know what I mean, right?

Suddenly, I felt like everyone's eyes were on me. I lifted up my head just to see what I thought what I would see. Everyone was staring at me.

"I guess, someone is not enjoying our company." Alex, the guy who brought me and Laura here, said and casted me a lazy smile.

"Huh?" My dumb self spoke up. "Oh no, I just zoned out for a bit, sorry."

"It's all right. I asked you if you liked the party but I think I already know the answer to that."

I think it was Jace who was talking. Ugh, I don't remember their names yet. I've never been good at it.

"It's cool but going to parties isn't really my thing." I answered honestly, interwinding my cold fingers together.

"So what's your thing then?"

"Books?" I said without thinking. God, they will think that I'm a nerd now and they won't like me.

It's not like I care but still.

"She's cute." The red-haired girl said. It's Monica, I guess.

Jessie was sitting next to her. She has a blonde, long hair and blue eyes. She is very beautiful. When it comes to the boys, Flynn is the only blonde guy in the group. Jace and Alex are both brunettes.

They started talking again and thankfully no one paid attention to me anymore. I pressed my knees together and wiped my sweaty hands on my trousers. Suddenly, I felt vibrations in my pocket. I saw I got a text from Lena and Olivia on our group chat.

Hey girl, are you alive? ~Lena

I bet she's screwing some guy right now. I'm telling you. ~ Olivia

She'd better use a condom ~Lena

I rolled my eyes at their texts. A small smile appeared on my face. I already miss them.

"Hey, we're going to dance. Are you coming?" Laura suddenly asked me.

I looked up at her from my phone and shook my head.

"No, I will actually find some quiet place so I can call my friends."

"All right, when you finish, you know where I am."

I nodded and got up from the couch. I went upstairs hoping to find some empty room. When I was walking along the long corridor I felt the wind on my skin. I turned around and saw an empty room with a balcony. The windows were open so I went outside and decided to FaceTime my girls.

- Finally! Don't tell me that you are already learning. - Lena was first who spoke.

"Pff, of course not! I'm not that big of a nerd. Actually, I'm at the party right now."

I said proudly, lifting up my chin, and pretending that I was offended. But I do read a lot. I've always liked to take out some good book out of my bag, no matter if I'm in my room or on the bus, and just be in my own world.

Books bring me peace, and comfort. I can use my imagination and pretend that I am the main character. I can experience all those things which are impossible in my real life. They are my distraction from the harsh reality.

- How in the world did someone manage to get you out of the house? And wait, a party?? - Olivia said making a shocked face, putting her hand on her chest dramatically.

"I actually didn't want to go but Laura can be very convincing."

I answered and leaned on the railing, looking at the view of the city in front of me.

- She is that flatmate of yours, yes? We should meet her some day.

"Yeah, maybe you can visit me next week or something."

- We'll try babe.

- Soo, I was on a date with Lucas today! - Olivia said excitedly.

She's had a huge crash on him since...I don't even remember but he always treated her like a friend and nothing more, but lately they've got so close and we are so happy that he finally understood that it's more than just a friendship.

"Oh my God, Liv that's amazing! Where did he take you?" I asked.

- He took me to that restaurant we went on your birthday last year and then we went for a walk. It was so fucking romantic!

- Yeah, and she said he even kissed her afer he drove her home! Our baby is not a baby anymore...- Lena said and started kissing every spot on her face.

- Eww, get off of me! - Olivia screamed jokingly and we all started laughing.

- All right bitch, it's late and we have to go, but you! Go back downstairs and have fun, you hear me?

"Yes mum." I said mockingly, rolling my eyes.

- We love you.

"Love you too, guys."

And after that, they hung up. I didn't want to come back downstairs. At least not yet. I looked up at the sky which was so beautiful and clear that you could see all the stars and the moon on it. I could do it my whole life, you know? Just stare and I would never get tired of it.

I've always prefered nights over days. There's so quiet at night, no one is disturbing you and the sun is too bright for my liking. You can see every flaw, every scar, and every imperfection in the daylight. You show your true self to the world. Your vulnerability. People can see your insecurities and pick you up on it.

My thoughts were interrupted by a loud crack inside of the room, as if something had fallen on the floor. But I didn't pay too much attention to it because it might have been just some drunk person. I stayed on the balcony for a few more minutes, having the constant feeling that someone was watching me. I shrugged it off though. I started to feel cold so I went back to the room and started walking down the stairs. When I reached the living room, Laura came up to me.

"Hey girl, where have you been for so long?"

"I was just talking to my friends."

"We will be going home, this party is boring."

"Oh, okay." I said calmly but my inner girl was screaming from happiness.

"Wait a minute, I will just grab my bag." Laura told me and disappeared somewhere in the crowd.

I was leaning against the same wall where that Jacob guy approched me earlier and waiting for Laura. That feeling of someone watching me came back. I looked around but there were just drunk people having fun. I turned my head to the left and I was met by the most handsome guy I have ever seen.

He was standing with a group of people who were talking to him but he seemed not to pay attention to them. He was looking at me instead. Suddenly, I felt the wave of heat washing over me. I don't like to stare at people. When I do, I try to do it discretly and when they move their head even a little, I turn around quickly so they don't catch me staring. But this time I wasn't able to turn around.

He had brown, messy hair, brown eyes, his skin was tanned as if he has just come back from holidays, dressed all in black. He was quite tall, 6ft3, I guess. I would be so small compared to him since I'm only 5ft6. He was wearing a t-shirt so I could see that he has a lot of tattoos and...muscles.

Damn, what a sight...

Stop it!

He was staring at me with so much intensity that I thought I would pass out. There was something intimidating about him. He looked me up and down, his hungry eyes never leaving my body. My cheeks were burning and I could tell that they were red as fuck. A small, sexy smirk appeared on his face and I just couldn't take it anymore, it was too much. I took my eyes off of him and looked at the ground.

"Okay, we can go now!" Laura screamed through the crowd. I nodded and we went outside. Alex was already waiting for us in front of the house. We got in and drove off.

*******

The weekend flew by pretty fast and before I knew it, it was already Monday. I was literally a bundle of nerves. I was so freaking stressed. I was standing before the entrance, debating if it could be a bad idea to just run away as far as possible from here.

"Your first day, huh?"

Someone said behind me. I turned around and saw Jacob. He was wearing some denim jeans and black t-shirt. He looked good. But not as good as the mysterious guy from the party.

Oh shut up.

I couldn't focus on anything and do absolutely nothing during this whole weekend because all I was thinking about was him. The thought of him alone makes me go crazy and it feels like there is plenty of butterflies in my stomach.

"What are you doing here?" I asked him, a frown edging into my eyebrows.

"Well, hello to you too." He chuckled and moved closer to me. "I study here, it's my second year."

"Oh, I thought...never mind."

"That I'm stalking you? I'm not that bad, you know? Maybe sometimes." He whispered the last part and winked at me.

"Come on, I will help you find your class." He stated and started walking, not waiting for my response.

I was just standing in the same place and debating if I should go with him, but I shook my head and followed him inside eventually. I showed him my schedule and he told me where my classes where, which professors I shouldn't piss off and all that stuff.

He is weird. I mean, he can be nice but sometimes I feel uncomfortable around him. After he showed me the university, he said that he would see me around and disappeared.

I went to my first class. I noticed a small group of girls talking but I didn't approach them. I'm too shy and as you already should know, meeting new people isn't something I find appealing, so I just sat in the back of the class and started unpacking my books.

"Is this seat taken?"

Someone asked and when I lifted up my head, I saw Jessie, one of Laura's friends. I smiled and nodded my head.

"I didn't know that you also study english philology."

"Well, you never asked." She said with a small smile and opened her book. "You are not a big talker, huh?"

"I'm sorry" I said, lowering my head and tucking a piece of hair behind my ear.

"No, it's okay. You don't have to apologise. I can tell that you are shy and don't open up to people that easly."

She wanted to say something else but our professor entered the classroom and began the lesson.

My first day has been rather boring. The professors just introduced themselves and said what they expected from us. I came home a little exhausted. Laura was already in the kitchen making something to eat.

"I don't know what you're cooking but it smells amazing." I said, walking into the kitchen.

"Spaghetti. You like it?"

"Are you kidding? Who dosen't?" I answered and she smiled at me warmly. When she finished, we sat at the table and started eating.

We talked about our day and other stuff. After that I was so tired that I just took a quick shower and went straight to my bed. But not without thinking about this guy. I grabbed a book in attempt to silence my thoughts, but I didn't succeed.

Ugh, why can't he just leave me head?

I wonder if I get to see him again. He seemed so enigmatic and had something that made me so intrigued.

I guess only time will tell.
