Skylar's POV

I was standing in front of the mirror, looking at me in the reflection. I was wearing white crop top and denim shorts. Today is the day. A new chapter in my life. I finally start my studies. Who would have thought that I would go to the fucking university!

Two weeks ago I met the girl I'm going to live with. She was looking for a flatmate so I called her and said that I would be interested. No parents, no shouting, no worries. Just me and Laura. We don't know each other that well yet but I can say that we will become the best of friends.

Do you get that feeling when you first meet someone and you automaticaly click with them? Yeah, that was with me and Laura.

Today is Friday and my first classes start on Monday but I wanted to go today to unpack my stuff and not to be in a rush later. Carrying my suitcase, I went downstars to the living room where my parents were.

It's such a strange feeling to leave this house. My whole childhood, all memories, the good ones and the bad ones. When I was younger, my peers wanted to be adults already, have children, husbands and wives. I, on the other hand, have always wanted to be a child. Forever. No worries, if you have a problem, your parents will quickly solve it, and it's simply great. Not to mention about paying bills...

"Honey, are you ready?Do you have everything? I know you and I know that you are probably freaking out right now but just don't, everything will be fine."

My mum started bombarding me with questions. I love her but she can be really noisy sometimes.

"Mum, calm down. I'm fine."

I am certainly not

She was right, my inner self was so scared. I don't like new situations, meeting new people and all that stuff. I need a lot of time to accomodate and get used to new things in life. If I could, I would stay in my room forever. No people, no problems, no drama.

I wasn't always like that though. I was easygoing, never scared to say something, or ask, or share my opinion. But then I met horrible people on my life's path, who showed me what real pain is. Many hurt me very badly, I was bullied at school, there were days when I could eat nothing.

I had to get through the hardships of life alone.

Then my complexes started to appear. I've changed so much. I hated my body. I still do. I mean, I try to fight it and there are better days where I feel like I'm doing okay but then everything crashes down and I can't help but feel overwhelmed. Do you know that feeling when you cry in the middle of the night, with one hand on your mouth so no one can hear you and the other hand on your stomach or heart because it fucking hurts? Yeah, I know that feeling way too well.

My parents walked me to my car and dad helped me to pack my suitcase. I also have two brothers, they are 15 and they are twins. Horrible, right? We have love-hate relationship. Some days we fight over stupid things but other days we get along. They just said some goodbyes to me because they were too occupied playing games. Not that I minded.

"Text us when you get there and drive safely!" My mum said to me. I think she started crying.

"I will, mum. Bye guys." I answerd and dad gave me one last hug.

I started the engine of my car and started driving. The ride wasn't that long, only 45 minutes. My university is in Cracow. Yes, it's in Poland. My mum is from England and my dad is from Poland. He was on a trip in England and that's where he met my mum. They lived there for some time but after I was born, we left the country.

Then, my very lovely brothers were born and my life couldn't be better (note the sarcasm). The older one (the difference is in a few minutes but he likes to brag about it anyway) is Jake and the younger one is David, and I am Skylar.

Hi, nice to meet you all.

I sometimes regret that we moved to Poland. I mean, it's cool but I think that I'd like England better. There is that kind of vibe that draws me there. All those streets, people, the weather, and generally everything. We go there from time to time because my mum still has family there after all, but it's not the same.

I finally arrived. I was standing in front of a huge building where I'm supposed to live now. I opened the door and started walking up the stairs. The number of my and Laura's flat is 36. When I found it, I knocked and after few seconds the door flew open.

"Hiii! Finally, I thought that after you met me, you decided that being around me isn't a good idea." Laura said with a big smile on her face, giving me even a bigger hug.

"No, of course not." I replied not knowing what else to say.

It's only the second time we're meeting and although I can tell that she's great, I'm still shy and a little reserved around her. I hope that she will not think of me as some wooden person. I will warm up. You'll see. I just need more time.

"Come on in." She said moving to the side so I could walk in, and I did that.
"Are you hungry? I made dinner."

"No, I ate before the ride. But thank you." I replied politely. "I just want to freshen up a bit and unpack my things if you don't mind."

"Sure, no problem. You know where your room is." She said, offering me a kind smile and I nodded.

I remembered from the last time where my room is so I turned around and started walking towards it. Our flat is quite big and rather modern if you ask me. I learned that Laura's parents are very rich.

Yeah, clearly

We have a big living room and next to it is a huge kitchen. I've never been a fan of cooking but just looking at this kitchen makes me want to start doing it.

There is a long corridor on the left. If you walk along it, you can see three doors. There is Laura's room on the right, on the left is mine, and opposite is the guest room. Every room has its own bathroom, which is great because I don't like sharing this room (or any other room in general) with someone else and let them see or go through your personal stuff.

Every wall in our flat is either grey or white, which I don't mind at all. When I entered my room, it already smelled like me because I already brought some of my stuff here last time.

After one hour or something like that, I finished unpacking everything. I cleaned up a little and took a very long shower which I really needed.

Finally, I decided to go and find Laura. I'd like to get to know her a little since we are going to spend a lot of time together. When I entered the living room she was sitting on the sofa, the TV was on in the background but she didn't pay attention to it because she was frantically texting someone.

"Hi." I said when I sat next to her.

"Oh hi. Did you settle into your new room?" She asked putting down her phone and facing me.

It was a small gesture but I really appreciated it. I don't like talking to someone who seems not really interested in what I'm saying. It makes me feel like I'm being ignored.

"Yeah, I did. I really like it here already." I answered honestly.

"I'm glad to hear that." She smiled at me. "What do you study by the way? I think I never asked."

"Oh, yeah sorry" I don't know what I'm appologising for, it's a habbit I guess. "I study english philology, you?"

"Psychology"

"Oh wow, that's...cool. Why though?"

"It just fascinates me, you know? Why people behave the way they do and all that stuff. Besides, I'm really good at reading people." Laura said, smiling mischievously at me.

"So I suppose I have to be careful how I act around you?" I laughed nervously.

"Of course not, but just know that if you don't tell me something, I will know. " This time it was her who was laughing.

We talked for a while about our families, friends and lives in general. I told her about my parents, brothers and my two best friends. I have only them. Lena and Olivia. Lena is a quite tall brunette and Liv is a bit shorter, with dark blond hair. They are my everything. I don't have many friends but I like it that way. It's better to have a few real friends than many fake ones. Laura is an only child. Her parents own a few companies while my dad is an electrician and my mum has her own flower shop.

"Soo...my friend is throwing a party tonight just to, you know, relax before we have to study hard. I will be going on parties during school year anyway but still" She chuckled "You should come with me."

"N-no, I don't do...parties you know" I said quickly. "It's not my thing, besides I won't know anyone there."

"You will know me and you will get to know my friends. They are cool. Maybe a little crazy but really cool. " She said, chuckling.

"Yeah, now you're saying that and after few minutes you will ditch on me." I said, pouting playfully, trying to suppress a smile on my face.

"I won't, I promise."

I was looking at her, furrowing my eyebrows slightly. As I said, I don't like parties and I already can tell that I won't be having fun. It's not like I've been to many parties because every time Lena and Olivia tried to convince me, my answer was always NO. It's just not my type of scenery and I simply don't feel comfortable. Besides, I'm really awkward, like, not cute awkward but weird awkward.

Laura was sitting in front of me and looking at me with those big blue eyes of hers. How could I say 'no' to her.

"One party...won't be that bad...I guess." I said, looking at her from under my eyelashes.

"Yaay, it will be great I'm telling you." She squeled happilly. "Come on, we have one hour to prepare." She clapped her hands and we went to our rooms.

One hour? 15 minutes would certainly do.

I took a shower again because I didn't want to smell bad and applied my favourite cocoa lotion on my body, and did my make-up. Not much though. Just my eyebrows and eyelashes. I've never put so much effort into my make-up. Why?

One- I like it that way and two-I have no fucking clue how to use half of those make-upish things.

Now, I am standing in front of my wardrobe, trying to decide what to wear. I did bring some skirts and dresses but if you are a woman I think you feel me, girl.

Suddenly, Laura came in to my room. She looked stunning. She has brown hair like me but hers is curly while mine is straight. Her make-up is done to perfection which accents her beautiful, blue eyes. I wish I could have eyes like she does. Mine are just hazel. Nothing special. She was wearing a silver dress (a little too short and provocative if you ask me but still pretty).

"Why aren't you ready already? Don't tell me you've changed your mind." She was approaching me with a sad expression on her face.

"No, I'm still going but I don't know what to wear." I whined.

"Let me help you then!"

After a few minutes of arguing I decided to go in black trousers, black satin blouse with silver straps and my favourite pair of white converse. Laura wanted me to wear one of her dresses but it was too revealing. I looked good though. Simple but pretty. I wore silver earrings and a silver necklace with a moon-shaped pendant.

"Ok, ready?" Laura asked, standing in the doorway.

"Yeah, but how do we get there?"

"A friend of mine will come and pick us up."

"Oh, ok."

After 20 minutes, Laura said that she got a text from her friend that he was waiting outside so we exited our flat and went downstairs. A nice, black car was standing there. We approached it and Laura took the front seat while I went to the back.

"Hi Alex" Laura said with a sly smile on her face. She leaned towards him and gave him a kiss on his cheak.

"Hi Laura, beautiful as always I see." He said in a flirty way with a smirk on his face.

Uhm, o-kay

"I always look good honey." She answered with the same flirty smile. "Oh, this is Skylar. My new flatmate."

She pointed at me and they both turned around in my direction.

He was quite handsome. His hair was brown and I'm pretty sure his eyes as well but it was dark so I was not sure.

"Damnn, you have a very hot friend in here!" He stated with a fleeting smile.

I felt so unconfortable and I think I blushed a little. I don't like when people pay attention to me or just look at me in general. I know that I'm not some goddess, rather the opposite. Sure, I get some compliments but not that often and most people who compliment me are my grandparents or aunts or uncles so their compliments don't mean anything to me. Because you know, they are my family so they have to say all those things to me.

"Oh stop it! Just try to touch her and see what will happen." Laura hit him playfully on the shoulder.

"All right boss" He chuckled and started the engine.

I was wondering whether they are a couple, because they were definitely acting like one. I wasn't sure if I was in a position to ask her about that because we don't know each other that well, but I'm sure Laura won't be mad at me if I do ask her later.

Oh God just let me survive this night...
