Imprecate
(v.) To invoke evil on.

I was wrong. The arrow didn't have any clues on it.

Correction, it didn't have any obvious clues on it, but I was certain it held some kind of meaning. I was sure I had seen it somewhere before but according to all the books and documents on weapons in the library, there was no indication as to where it came from.

Be that as it may, the silver tip that had once been lodged in my heart was slightly jagged, not smoothed out to give a sharp and clean finish, but rather left in its rough state, as if the multiple edges were left on purpose to inflict more harm.

It either meant the person making it was extremely smart or not so experienced with blacksmithing.

I was stuck in this loop.

"You're looking too much into this, Baby. Maybe we should be looking at it from another angle," I sighed, not bothering to argue and just nodded.

We were in a meeting right now, talking about new defence systems and other protective strategies but my mind had been distracted through the entirety of it.

"If we could find where these wolves are coming from then it'd be a lot easier," Vaughn murmured.

"I think they're rogues coming from across the country to form some sort of army," Zane added.

"They don't look like rogues. These wolves smell of death and decay and their blood is disgusting," Apollo winced.

"I think they're possessed," I voiced, my mind snapping back to a book I had read last night. They all looked at me, with varying shades of curiosity and alarm.

"Possessed by who?" Genevieve asked, looking worried.

"I think it's a witch. A dark one. It's highly unlikely to be a demon," I assured the current standing beta female.

"Why would it be more likely to be a witch?" Zane asked, tilting his head at me.

"Why would you think they're possessed?" Vaughn added, looking unimpressed. I rolled my eyes at his unnecessary scepticism and answered back.

"I'm surprised you would say that. Everything about them screams possessed. From the soulless black eyes, to their rotting bodies and not to mention, their lack of thoughts," I raised a brow at the platinum blond male, daring him to argue with my reasonable logic.

"As for why I think they're possessed by witches and not demons," I began, turning back to quiet Zane. "Is that witches and werewolves have a long history of war and bloodshed. I would assume a pack might have offended a coven of witches or it might be some sort of payback for something that happened a long time ago," I paused.

"Demons on the other hand don't really interfere with these matters and it would be extremely hard to find one that's willing to do such work and even harder to convince them without some sort of reward in return," They all looked deep in thought, considering my words which made a lot more sense than the rabid wolves theory that was proposed earlier

"So what do we do now?" Kieran asked, smirking at me. I smirked back, knowing that he already knew my answer from hearing my thoughts.

"I'm going to ask the Elders to contact the Council of Witches and see what they know," They all glanced at each other and at Kieran who only watched me. They were obviously unsure about witches and asides from brutal battles and war, werewolves didn't share anything else with witches and vice versa.

We were segregated communities which was annoying during times like these. I couldn't speak to the Council myself since I didn't have a high enough status and it would be immensely disrespectful to address them myself. The Elders were considered royalty and would be a much more favourable option. They had a lot more patience and diplomacy than I did.

"And are you sure that's wise. Bringing witches into pack lands?" Apollo asked.

"Yes. I assure you there won't be many and they won't stay for long, but we need to form an alliance with them. We need help against this unknown enemy," I explained. They all nodded in agreement, silence falling over us once again.

After a moment, I stood up from my chair and everyone else stood up too.

"If that's all for now then the meeting is over. I'll let you all know when the witches are expected to arrive," They all murmured their goodbyes as they filed out the meeting room and I walked over to Kieran, wrapping my arms around his waist and burying my face in his chest.

"I really hope this goes well," I murmured into the dark fabric of his shirt.

"Me too," he relied, gently stroking my hair. For a while, it was just silent, both of us enjoying each other's company while our minds raced.

"Can you tell me why you're so obsessed with the arrow?" He asked

"I feel like I've seen it before. I don't know where, but the jagged silver arrowhead looks familiar. Maybe I've seen it in a dream or something, but I know it's important," I could feel his doubt but he didn't comment out loud and instead nodded supportively.

"I hope we find answers soon," he sighed.

"Me too," I hummed. The silence once again settled over us like a comforting blanket.

"So you're sure that these wolves are possessed?" He asked suddenly, breaking the silence. I turned to face him, eyeing his profile as he gazed out the window with a frown.

"Yes I'm almost certain," I replied. His thoughts were muddled and I felt his anger and confusion through our mate bond. I didn't push him, just placed my hand on his chest and rubbed small circles in comfort.

"You said you were feral once. What was it like?" The unexpected question made me release a small puff of air as I gathered my thoughts.

"I remember I was always afraid. I was jumpy and paranoid, never stayed anywhere too long. I was constantly running, scared of my own shadow," I murmured. "For the longest time I didn't understand affection and loving touches. I didn't get why you would touch someone if you didn't want to hurt them."

I smiled softly as memories of Diana hugging me and holding me all day filtered through. She would pet my wolf form for hours on end, just to get me to trust her and when I shifted back, she would do things like stroke my hair or back while I was eating just to get me used to physical contact.

"I don't think my mother turned feral," I snapped out of my thoughts to look back up at Kieran, his words registering in my mind.

"That night, as I looked into her eyes, as I watched her tear apart my brother, I knew deep down that wasn't my mother. Her eyes were soulless and so full of hatred," he continued, his eyes distant with memories. I continued rubbing his chest, letting him take his time to tell me. He looked down at me, eyes boring into me with a startling intensity.

"I think she was possessed."
