Nightmares

One week later.

It's been a week since the attack at Jai's place. I have also been waking up in the middle of the night screaming. I have nightmares of when I killed Clive.

I don't know how Jai and Carter can live with what they did, but it's hard for me.

Jai wraps his arms around me. He pulls me closer to him. "You need to talk to someone about this."

I shake my head. "I don't want to talk to anyone."

Jai looks at the door. "Your brother and sister are worried about you as well. You hardly talk to them."

I wrap my arms around him. "Can you help me make the pain go away?"

Jai pulls away from me. "I'm not going to take advantage of you while your in this state of mind. It will be a huge mistake."

I rise. "I'm going out for a bit." I walk over to the cupboard and I put on a dress. "Don't wait up." I grab my purse and walk out of the house. I walk down the stairs and enter Lusive.

Ethan is standing in the corner with a girl. He looks at me as I take a seat. He has bruises covering his face from what happened last week.

I slam my hand on the bar. "Give me a beer."

The bartender places the drink in front of me.

I slide him the cash. "Thanks,"

He shakes his head. "The boss said you don't need to pay for your drinks."

When did he say that?

"Whatever," I bring the bottle to my lips and I drink.

Ethan walks over to me. "Hey, Chloe. How are you feeling?"

"Fine," I mumble.

"Bullshit! If you were fine you wouldn't be here drinking and trying to numb the way you feel." He climbs onto the stool next to me. "You can talk to me if you want."

I cross my arms. "What am I supposed to tell you?"

He shrugs. "Anything, its better than keeping it bottled up until your about to explode." He touches my arm. "You have a sister that needs you. Sort yourself out before you lose her. You would feel worst if Aleysa died while you were going through whatever your feeling right now."

I take his hand and I lead him to Jai's office. I open the door and walk to Jai's chair. I sit in it. "Do you want to know what I'm feeling?" Ethan nods. "I feel guilty for killing Clive. I know he deserved it for killing my parents, but I didn't realise how it would effect me after I took his life."

He wraps his arms around me. "It's natural to feel the way you do after your first kill. It gets easier the more you do it. I can tell that's not your sort of thing. What I suggest you do is talk to a professional or someone you trust. They will help you with this."

"I don't trust the professionals they would turn me in." I look at the picture of Jai and I. "The person I want to talk to is the one that I share a bed with, but I don't know how he would feel about this topic."

The door to the office opens and Jai steps into the room. He walks over to me. "I knew I would find you in here." Jai looks at Ethan. "I will take it from here. You're excused."

Ethan walks out of the room. He closes the door behind him.

Jai pulls a chair over to me and he sits next to me. "Chloe," he lifts my face until I'm looking into his chocolate brown eyes. "You can talk me about everything. Including what keeps waking you up in the middle of the night. I know you're trying to be tough, but that's not working for you."

I rise from my seat and sit on Jai's lap. "I keep getting flashbacks of what I did to Clive. It's hard for me to go to sleep at night."

He wraps his arms around me. "When I had my first kill it wasn't easy for me. I woke up in the middle of the night screaming too. What made it easier for me was the people around me. I drew strength from them. The people I go after are the ones that hurt my family. I got out of that life when you first walked into the bar. I wanted you to like the guy I am now and not the one I was before you walked into my life."

I lean towards his ear and whisper. "I would have liked you either way."

He smiles. "That's good to know. If you get scared in the middle of the night you can snuggle against me. I will try my best to keep the nightmares away." He looks at the monitors on the screen. "Do you want to get another drink before we go home?"

I shake my head. "I've had enough." I yawn. "I want to go to bed." I stand and move toward the door. I open the door and walk out of the room.

When we get downstairs Jai lifts me up and he carrries me to the house. He open the front door.

Charlotte looks at Jai. "Is she alright?"

I smile. "I'm good." I sing.

She shakes her head. "How much did you drink?"

"Not enough. I just hope it's enough that I can get a decent night sleep." I wave at her as Jai carries me to the bedroom.

Aleysa opens her bedroom door and she looks at me. "Chloe, I can't sleep."

Jai puts me down. "Take care of her and then join me in the bedroom."

I walk over to my little sister. "Do you want me to read you a story?" She nods. I walk with her to the bedroom. "Which book do you want me to read?

She pulls the first Harry Potter book off the shelf and I begin to read to it. She smiles. "You have a beautiful voice, just like Mom. I can read that book on my own, but I miss sitting with Mom and reading a book with her."

I hug her. "I'm glad that I get to spend this moment with you."

"Me too," she kisses my cheek. "Love you, Chloe. Goodnight." She closes her eyes and I continues to read the story.

When she's fast asleep I kiss her cheek and whisper. "I love you too, Aleysa. I will see you in the morning." I put the book on the shelf and then I leave the room. I close the door and make my way to Jai's room.

Jai looks at me from the bed when I enter the room. "Took you long enough."

I smile. "I had to read a book to Aleysa. It's something she used to do with Mom when she couldn't sleep. She told me I had a beautiful voice like Mom's." I sit at the side of the bed. "I miss my parents, Jai."

He sits up in bed. "Do you want to see them over the weekend?"
