I am woken by Jai's phone alarm going off. I cover my ears with my pillow. "Jai, turn it off. I want to sleep in a bit longer."

He ignores me.

If he doesn't shut the thing off there's going to be consequences.

It goes off again.

That's it.

I move him across the bed with my feet and arms. When he's close to the edge of the bed I give him one last push and he falls out of bed.

He hits the ground with a thud.

I hope Aleysa and Nate didn't hear that.

"What the f..." he looks at me from the bed. "Why did you that, Chloe?"

I lean over the bed and laugh. "I asked you to turn the alarm off. You didn't. If you want to wake up every morning with that alarm be my guest, but I will kick you out of bed until you turn it off."

The alarm beeps again.

He holds his hands up in surrender. "Alright, I'm turning it off. Geez, someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed." He turns the alarm off. "I need to get ready." He walks to the bathroom.

I pull the blankets over me and fall back to sleep.

Jai and I both have appointments with our Lawyer's today to destroy The Proposal.

I'm glad the proposal can now be a void in our life.

Jai looks handsome in the suit he's wearing to his Lawyer's office. He told me that his parents dress up when they visit their Lawyers and he's the same way.

I normally wear whatever I feel like to the Lawyers, but for some reason today I put on a dress and some make-up. I tie the bandana on my head.

Jai whistles. "You look beautiful. How about we go out for lunch?"

I smile. "That's a great idea." I look at the door. "I have to take Aleysa with me. There's no one to look after her."

He shakes his head. "Mom and Dad are in town for a couple of hours today and they want to spend time with Aleysa."

"Why didn't you tell me they were in town?"

He shrugs. "I didn't know you wanted to see them."

I sigh. "Why are they here for a couple of hours?"

He takes my hand and we walk out of the room. "They are flying to Italy for the weekend. It's their 30th Anniversary. Mom and Dad have a twelve hour stop over here before they go to Italy. I think they chose to do it this weekend so they could watch Nate's Football game." We walk into the kitchen to see Nate at the table.

He looks at us. "Where are you two going today?"

I move over to him and take a seat. "Jai and I are meeting some important people and then we're going out to lunch."

"Chloe, you're supposed to be at my school and 1:30 today."

I frown. "Why?"

He shakes his head. "You're supposed to cut the teams hair for my assignment. How could you forget?"

Damn, I forgot about that.

"Sorry, Nate. I have had a busy week and it slipped my mind. I will be there at 1:30, Jai and I will get an early lunch then."

Nate smiles. "Thank you."

There's a knock on the door.

Jai looks at me. "I will get it." He walks over to the door and I hear him talk to his parents.

Nate rises and move over to the door. "Do you know who it is?"

I nod. "It's Aleysa's babysitters."

Aleysa walks into the room and she looks at me. "I don't need a babysitter."

I smile. "You will love these ones." I look at Nate. "And so will you. They want to see you kick some Eagles butt tonight. Do you promise that you will do everything to make your team win?"

He nods. "I will."

"Great, cause here they come." I hear Jai and his parents get louder as they make their way to the kitchen."

Aleysa looks at the door and so does Nate.

Veronica and Mr Marshall walk into the room.

Aleysa jumps off her chair and she runs over to them. She hugs them. "It's good to see you again."

Veronica smiles. "It's going to be us for the next couple of hours. What do you want to do?"

Aleysa looks at me. "Can they take me to the public library I want to get some books out?"

I walk over to Aleysa. "Yes, you can. If you start to feel unwell let Veronica know and she will take you home."

"Okay," Aleysa smiles. "I love you, Chloe."

I kiss her cheek. "I love you too." I look at the time. "I have a meeting to get to. I will see you all later." I turn towards Nate. "Did you give Aleysa the phone?"

Nate shakes his head. "I forgot." He pulls a box out of his bag and he gives it to Aleysa. "You can watch the group get their heads shaved."

She hugs him. "Thanks, Nate."

I walk to the front door and pick up my handbag. I take a set of keys off the hook and walk out the front door.

At the garage I press the alarm and a MX-5 2016 red convertible goes off and I realise that's my car for the day. I climb into the driver's seat. I pull down the sun roof and head towards my Lawyer's.

When I get to my Lawyer's office I see a group of people waiting to see him. I walk over to the desk and the receptionist looks at me.

She smiles. "You're right on time, Chloe. James is in his office."

I walk down the hall and stop in front of the last door. I knock and hear a faint 'Come in' come through the door. I open the door and see James sitting behind the desk.

He smiles. "What can I do for you today?"

I sit. "I came here to ask if you could destroy The Proposal I gave you."

James types something onto his computer and he goes through something. "Got it." he spins the computer around to me and he hits delete. "Is that all you need today?"

"Yes, it. Thank you for getting rid of it."

"You're welcome. I will see you soon."

What does he mean by 'I will see you soon?' He can't know that Aleysa is dying. I haven't told anyone about it.

Jai's POV

I don't have just one appointment today. I have to two. One is with my Lawyer about destroying The Proposal I made with Chloe and the second one is with Louis Esposito.

I think she's relieved that The Proposal is out of the way. I should have destroyed it when I first started to develop feelings for her. Who knew spending time with one woman would lead me down this path and finding love with a beautiful woman who quit her job, moved back to Los Angeles, looked for any job to help her family out, begged a man like me for a job and got that said job.

I pull my car in front of a brick building and there's a sign above the door that reads 'Esposito.' I open the glove compartment and pull the colt out. I place it in my holster.

Louis Esposito is the head of his Mafia Family. There's other Mafia families that live in town, but they aren't as bad as Esposito. Everything that happens in Los Angeles has to go through them. Esposito's are the type of people that you don't want to mess with.

I take one last look at the brick building before I open the door.

I haven't been here in a long time. I thought as I enter the building.

A group of men rise from a table that's in the middle of the room and on the other side is a bar. They walk over to me and I'm surrounded by six guys.

I love a good fight. First I need to see how this will play out.

"I'm here to see Louis Esposito. He's expecting me."

A voice clears behind the guys. "Step aside. I want to see the man."

The group separate and I see Louis make his way through his men. He smiles. "It's good to see you old friend."

I wish I could say the same.

I look at Louis. "We need to talk."

He nods. "I agree." He spreads his arms. "After you."

I walk through his men and then he walks in front of me and shows me the way to his office. He enters the office and a second guy steps into the room before me.

Louis takes a seat behind his mahogany desk. "Take a seat."

I move over to the chair and I sit.

He crosses his arms and he says. "What can I help you with?" he leans forward. "I hope this doesn't have anything to do with my visit to your bar." He licks his lips. "Your girlfriend is one hottie."

I take my colt out and slam it on the desk. "Listen hear. I don't want you to go near my bar or my girl. She has nothing to do with this." I point between us. "We work together not against each other. We also made an agreement that we wouldn't go near the others girl and you broke that rule." I pick up the colt and I aim it at Louis.

The guy standing in the corner takes the safety off his gun and I hear it. He moves towards me.

I grab his gun and I twist it until the gun releases. I hear a crack and a scream comes out. I punch him in the face and he crumbles to the floor. I look down at him. "Don't try to stop me from doing anything." I kick him in the face and he closes his eyes. I aim my gun at Louis and I pull the trigger. I shoot him in the shoulder.

Louis holds onto the spot where I shot him.

I lock the door to the office and I turn back towards him. "That was for ignoring the rules. The next bullet will be in your leg." I walk over to him and I grab his face. "Are you going to see my girl again?"

He shakes his head.

I tighten my hand on his face. "I didn't hear you. Are you going to see my girl again?"

"No!" he shakes his head. "I will call before I go to your bar next time."

Good.

I show him my phone. "Do you know this guy?"

Louis looks at the picture and his face pales.

He knows whose following my girl. He better have not put him onto her.

"Is he one of your men?"

He shakes his head. "This guy works alone. If there's a contract on someone they send him. You won't be able to stop him." He looks at the picture again. "How did you come across him?"

"Chloe," I whisper.

Louis laughs. "Oh, man. Your girl is in trouble."

I grab him the throat. "Do you think he's responsible for her parent's death?"

"No, he's the type of person that goes for a clean kill. Someone else killed her parents. What they didn't know was there were three kids upstairs that night.

"Do you have a name for this guy?"

"Carter McCafferty."

I throw him a towel. "Thanks, Louis. I will see you next time." I put my colt in my holster. "You better call your dog's off when I walk through the door." I open the door and I see a group of pissed off men.

They should have known I wouldn't be happy that they went to my bar while I wasn't working. I don't want this kind of thing around her.

"Let him go." he looks at the guy on the ground. "I need someone to call Jacob's he can clean and stitch me up."

I walk out of the building and climb into my car.

I walk into my lawyers and I wait for him to finish with his client. I open a magazine and flip through the pages.

My phone beeps and I look at it.

She doesn't reply.

The client walks out of the room and he shakes the lawyers. "Thanks, I will see you next week." He walks away.

My Lawyer looks at me. "Come in, Mr Marshall."

I follow him to his office. I sit in a seat.

"How can I help you?"

"I want you to destroy The Proposal I gave you."

He shows me the copy he saved onto his computer and he deletes. "Is that all you need from me today?"

"Yes, it is." I look at him. "I want you to empty your trash before I leave. I don't trust that you won't make a copy of it."

He empty's the bin. "Is that better?"

"Yes," I walk to the door. "I hope you have a good day." I shut the door and walk out of the office.
