CHAPTER 55- I DON'T DO MARRIED MEN

"What?" surprise encompassed Brie as she whirled around to face the three girls sitting on the bed, gazes reeking of skepticism.

"You heard me," Dana folded her arms, the curls of her long dark hair stretching along the sides of her face, "Are you hooking up with Mr. Benson?"

Brie's face distorted into a frown, "Why in God's name would you think that?"

"Answer the question," Emma surprisingly commented, which had Brie rather retorting,

"Oh, you have a mouth?"

Cutting in, Katy defensively placed her hands on Emma's shoulders, "Just stop it," Katy warned Brie, hands protectively shielding Emma from Brie's potential wrath, "We know you've been sleeping with Mr. Benson. We know it all."

Brie strutted towards Katy, hands proudly plastered on her hips, a daring force bestowing upon her slim facial features as she snickered, "Oh, do you now? D'you have proof to back that?"

"Enough to come to this conclusion," Katy shot back.

Brie snorted, "Lies."

"Brie," Dana cut in, "Yes or no? It's as simple as that. Are you hooking up with Mr. B?"

"No."

Dana rolled her eyes, "Sure you aren't. Tell that to Jayden when he meets you tomorrow. He and Lara are back home."

"They're back already?" Brie had expected them to have stayed longer at the lakehouse. Didn't Lara want to enjoy her man's dick?

"They came yesterday. You would have known if you had been around."

"And why would I need to see Jayden?" Brie scoffed.

Dana took the pleasure in breaking the news to her, "He knows about his father's infidelity. He asked to see you."

A burst of unpleasant laughter audibly attacked the three maids as Brie convinced herself, "I know you're trying to use some sort of reverse psychology to try to get me to admit I'm sleeping with the man. It won't work, hunny."

"We aren't-" Katy began to retort, but Emma immediately stopped her,

"Brie's telling the truth," she said.

Dana, Katy, and even Brie turned to Emma with their pretty eyes widened after Emma's shocking comment. What the heck was she on?

Emma went on, "She's right. I think it's... my sister, Ella." Emma referred to her twin sister who had definitely been acting strange around the house. She hadn't even been home, yet.

"What?" Dana's confusion blatantly refused to be concealed, but Brie's was professionally pocketed.

"Why would you think that? Why Ella?" Brie somewhat defensively asked.

Had Ella been involved with her man?

Emma spoke, "Two days ago, before Lara and Jayden got back..." Emma turned to Katy, then shifted her gaze to Dana, "I didn't want to say anything, but I saw my sister sneaking out of Mr. Benson's room early in the morning before he left for the hospital,” the lie slid right past her full lips. She had to do this to trap Brie in Brie's own vicious mannerisms which would depict her jealousy.

"Seriously?" Dana asked. Brie's jaw slightly hang as she listened to Emma speak,

"Mhm. She was grinning, and had that glow."

Brie immediately felt her heart ripping out of her chest as she imagined Mr. Benson dragging Ella into the same bed he had been dragging her, Brie, into for the past year. His hands touching Ella the same way they did, her.

Brie's hands began to tighten into hard fists as her lips aligned in a straight line; anger, jealousy and hurt consuming her like an unquenchable flame.

This could not be happening. Mr. Benson was hers and hers only.

She had already begun to remove Mrs. Benson out of her way with the spiked orange juice. Ella was no exception.

Definitely no exception.

Brie whirled around to the door to go get some answers from her supposed man, but the minute her fingers made contact with the doorknob, Katy called out,

"Where d'you think you're going?"

Brie heaved a heavy sigh. She didn't have the time to answer any more of their stupid questions.

"I'm gonna get a glass of water. What?" she turned to the three girls who raked her with their damn eagle eyes, "Can't I leave my room anymore?"

Katy stood up and slowly approached Brie, making clear to her, "A clever mistress, you are. A good actress, don't even count on it."

"What?"

"You know, I noticed something off with you whenever Mrs. Benson gave Mr. B a goodbye kiss in the morning," Katy revealed, "Your shoulders would stiffen and you would always make comments like, 'ew, gross, he must be tired of her, total cringe'. At first, I thought you only found it cringy. But now that I think about it, you would frown so hard, it nearly didn't make sense."

Brie's perfect brown brows squished together in a deadly frown as Katy went on,

"It all makes sense now. You and Mrs. Benson have been sharing the same man for God knows how long. Good God," Katy exclaimed.

"Get out of my face, Kate, before there's nothing left of it," Brie warned Katy who had left only a breathing space between them, with Katy having to slightly tilt her head up to look Brie right in the eye.

"Threatening me now?" Katy inquired from her best friend. The first friend she had made when she had been hired by the Benson's.

Brie had been so welcoming to her even though she had been there for only a month before Katy's arrival.

And even though Brie had depicted a devious persona, Katy had learned to deal with it and had accepted her for her snarky and crude self.

Brie ignored Katy's question and turned to the door once more, needing to find Ella or Mr. B for some answers. She needed to get her man.

However, Katy just wouldn't let her. She immediately grasped Brie by the hand and pulled her back so hard that Brie had nearly crushed into Katy's bosom.

"You bitch," Brie's hand impulsively flew, and in a swift second, Katy's cheek had been struck so hard, the gruesome impact had propelled her to take three shaky steps back.

Emma immediately rose to her feet and Dana rushed to further separate Katy and Brie as she yelled, "What the hell is wrong with you?"

"She started it!" Brie roared, chest heaving with flaming hurt and concealed regret. "You all did! I don't have time for you bitches! Don't try to stop me, I'm warning you-"

Dana retorted, "The only bitch here is you! You're sleeping with a man who is married to the woman you're working for! Brie, you're-"

"Shut the fuck up!"

"Don't wanna hear the truth? How do you feel after stabbing your boss in the back like that? How do you feel w-"

"You don't understand anything!" Brie exasperated, distress prompting her heart to race.

Dana stood up to her, "Don't understand what? That you've been having sex with our boss? That he doesn't want you anymore? That he wants to end the affair with you and you don't want that?"

The surprise that flashed in Brie's eyes permitted Dana to explain, "Me, Emma and Katy heard you arguing with Mr. B some nights ago. He wanted to end the affair, but you persuaded him not to. You begged him."

Brie clarified, "It's not just an affair. It's deeper than that!"

"Got you," Dana scowled, relaxing her shoulders now that Brie had finally exposed herself.

And even after exposing herself, Brie tried to shift the spotlight to someone else, "Emma clearly said she saw Ella leaving Jared's room so,"

"Jared?" Dana scoffed, "First name basis. How lovely."

Brie rolled her eyes, "What? Do you want me to call him boss in bed?" There was no use denying it anymore. They didn't even deserve the effort she used to deny their accusation.

Emma replied Brie's earlier statement, finally confessing, "That was to lure you. I never saw my sister coming out of Mr. Benson's room. I lied. My sister would never."

"Touche, you snake," Brie insulted. "All of you are freaking snakes."

Katy, after recovering from the heavy slap, clarified, "You're the snake. Mr. Benson doesn't, and will never love you."

"You don't know anything!"

"What I know is that he's married!"

"I don't care!" Brie responded, "He didn't, so why should I? You guys don't know anything about what he and I have."

Katy and Dana simultaneously requested, "Enlighten us!" with Katy adding, "We would love to know all about your fairytale affair."

"Continue mocking us," Brie raged, "You would never know what it's like to have something like what we have."

"What?" Dana snarled, "Lust? Fun? Been there, done that. What I don't do is married men or men who are taken because I know I wouldn't want to be in Mrs. Benson's shoes when I have a man."

"It's different. It's not just lust."

"It is, you fool!" Dana poked Brie's head, "It's just sex!"

It took everything in Brie to plainly confess, "I love him!"

The entire room went silent.

Dead silent.

The three maids only stared at Brie who seemed so grounded in her statements even though her eyes had begun to glisten with tears albeit her deadly frown.

Unsurprisingly, she prevented the tears from flooding her eyes or flowing down her pale cheeks as she sharply went on,

"I love him. I love, 'Mr. Benson'!" she air-quoted, "My boss' husband. I love him like I've never loved before. He gives me what I can't get from anyone else."

Dana's sarcasm returned to the stage, "What is that? Middle-aged sex?"

"It's more than sex to me. Besides, I wouldn't want to be fucked any other way. He knows exactly what I want. He knows my body, in and out."

"Brie," Dana's expressions softened. The girl was lost.

Dana placed a worried hand on Brie's defensive shoulder, "This is not love."

"You wouldn't know that. You know nothing about what I feel for him and what I would do for him."

"He's not for you," Dana insisted, which only seemed to anger Brie,

"He is. He doesn't love Mrs. Benson. He's told me several times."

"Has he ever told you that he loves you?"

Brie nodded, "Yes. It's been a while, but yes, he's told me he loves me before. And I love him."

Katy joined Dana standing in front of Brie at the door, "He's 46 and married. Jayden's father! Mrs. Benson's husband! And we were actually worried about Lara's relationship with Jayden when you're literally fucking the woman's husband! What is wrong with you? You're asking to be fired. Then again, you wouldn't care because you don't even need this job in the first place."

Katy was right. Pierre, Brie's brother, was well off and was ready to help his sister, but whenever he had brought it up, she would insist that she had preferred working to repay the kindness the Benson's had shown her and had wanted to earn money for herself.

"It really makes sense now," Katy nodded, "Now I understand why you're still working here even when your brother is doing good."

"I'm crazy," Brie yelled at Katy, "That's what's wrong with me. I've turned crazy for the man."

Emma voiced out her opinion from the bed where she sat, gaining their attention, "You're obsessed, you're not in love."

"Shut up and go back to your colouring book. What would you know about any of this?"

Dana warned, "This should be the last time you bully Emma."

Dana had had enough of it, but Emma assured her,

"Don't worry, Dana. I can handle myself around this witch."

Brie exasperated, eyes on Dana, "She wouldn't know anything about this," she referred to Emma, "She never speaks. She doesn't experience shit."

"This isn't about Emma," Katy reminded, "It's about you and your horrible affair with Mr. Benson. It has to stop."

"You don't tell me what to do."

"Mr. Benson himself wants it to end," Katy reminded. She didn't know how many times she had to try to connect to Brie's last sane brain cell.

Brie was adamant, "He's only confused. The second I give him a taste of what he would miss forever, he would come running back."

"I'm literally done with you," Dana shook her head, "Come on, Emma. Let's go. And good luck Katy."

After Dana and Emma had walked out of Brie and Katy's shared room, Katy went on,

"D'you know that Jayden knows about his father's infidelity?"

"I thought you were lying about that," Brie managed to prevent her brows from raising, maintaining their default spots as she implored, "He knows about me?"

"He knows his father cheated on his mother, but he doesn't know who he did it with. He questioned Dana and Emma already. He couldn't question me because I'd been asleep. And I don't think he will. You're left on his list of suspects. You need to see him tomorrow."

"And say what? Yes, I fucked your father? You want some?"

Katy held Brie's unwavering gaze, and with a final set of words, she ended the conversation, "You need to change. Before it's too late. Let this sink in. Good night."

Brie stepped out and closed the door of Mr. Benson's room with a whispered curse. The man wasn't home. He was still by his wife's side at the hospital when he should have been home already.

What was the point, Brie thought. Mrs. Benson was gonna die anyway. It was only a matter of time. There was no way they could save her on time.

Maybe he was mourning her death at the hospital and had found it difficult to come home to give the news.

Brie let out an annoyed grunt as she descended the stairs in dissatisfaction. She missed the man dearly.

She didn't care what the others had to say about her relationship with the man.

They knew nothing.

She would literally slay a person for him. No matter who stood in her way.

Stealing her attention from Mr. Benson was the click from the main door which had indicated that someone had walked in.

She quickened her steps to see who it was. Hopefully, it was Mr. Benson.

However, to her surprise, it was Lara.

But this Lara was quite different from the Lara she knew.

This one seemed closed off-ish and had buried her hands inside the pockets of her jacket as she quietly drifted in the direction of her room.

"Lara!" Brie immediately called out which provoked an instant shiver from the girl who clearly did not want to be seen.

Lara turned in the direction of the voice, slight surprise filling her big brown eyes when she had laid them on Brie.

"You're here?" Lara cleared her throat after her question had sounded like a frog's croak.

Brie tore her feet from the stairs and approached Lara at the curve towards the hallway where her room was, "I should be asking you. Wait..." Brie scrutinised Lara's facial features and exclaimed,

"Oh hell no. Have you been crying? What's going on?"

"Stop," Lara pushed Brie's prying hand from her cheeks and chin, her dried-up tears even more visible now. "No."

"Look at your eyes. What did Jayden do?" Brie gasped, a scowl begging to decorate her face as she regarded her friend's crumbling form. "I thought you two got away from this house to have some alone time. Or," a smirk began to play around the corners of her lips as she speculated,

"Has he finally broken your virginity? You're sad it's gone? Trust me, these feelings wouldn't even last two days when he gives you more action."

"Nothing, just leave me alone for a minute-" Lara tried to escape from Brie's presence but Brie stopped her,

"What is it?"

"It's nothing," Lara stressed, eagerly striving to leave. She tried to slide past Brie once more, but Brie was faster.

She grabbed the girl's hand just before she was able to get out of reach, and the minute she did, Lara shrieked and let out a big,

"Ow."

Brie concernedly responded, "What? I didn't grab it too hard, I-"

Brie paused.

A simple glance at the hand Lara had been trying to conceal had been enough for Brie.

"Oh. My. God," Brie gasped, "What the hell- Have you been cutting yourself?"
