Alice

"Ouch son of a b-" I hear a muffled voice.

My eyes slowly open and I feel a sharp pain in my skull.

"What's going on?" I say groggily sitting up in my bed. I look around and see Tracy stumbling around trying to get her heels on.

"Oh hey look whose up." Tracy smiles.

I look on my bedroom floor and gasp. Candy wrappers are littered everywhere empty cans clothes and makeup. My eyes trail across the room realizing something's missing. "Where's Gen?"

Tracy smiles smugly and points under me.

I look down and see the huge Ada Lovelace skirt half out from under the bed.

"Come on Gen I'll give you a ride home if you get out." Tracy laughs, getting a groan in return from under the bed. Tracy starts to pick up some trash on the ground.

"Oh, Tracy you don't have to. It's my room
I can get to it." I tell her and begin to pick up the scattered litter.

"Nonsense." She sings tossing them into my trash bin. We look down at Gen when we're finished throwing things away. She still hasn't moved out from under the bed.

"She alive down there?" I ask softly.

Tracy stares for a few seconds before kicking Gens exposed leg. We hear another groan. She still doesn't move.

"Alright grab an ankle," Tracy says and we bend down and pull Gen out.

"What happened." Gen groans loudly rubbing her head.

"Looks like someone doesn't drink alcohol." Tracy refers to Gen.

"I don't either there's nothing wrong with that," I say to Tracy and get down to Gens level feeling her forehead.

"You okay?" I ask worriedly.

"No!" She says and I gasp. She's sick!

"I kissed Nelson last night!" Gen yells annoyed and falls into her back.

My mouth drops open but Tracy just shrugs like it's normal. "So?" She questions earning a glare from Gen.

"So, I probably just ruined our friendship!" Gen says sadly.

"Look, Gen, I need to get home do you want that ride or not?" Tracy dismisses Gen's problem and starts to look for her purse.

I roll my eyes and look at Gen. "look, you were drunk and so was Nelson. I'm sure he'll understand if you just explain it to him tomorrow." I say and can't help but feel bad for Nelson. "And maybe kissing him wasn't a bad thing. He's a nice guy."

"I guess. My head hurts I can't think straight." She says and we all nod in agreement.

Tracy looks up and smiles. "There my bra!" She claps before reaching up and taking it off my ceiling light.

"What the hell happened last night?" I sigh remembering nothing.

"Too much of that orange liquor that's what." Tracy shakes her head.

I think back to what I drank remembering the buzz. "I thought that was Fanta." I frown and hear a laugh from Tracy.

"Aw Ally you're so stupid it's cute." Tracy smiles and I hear a laugh from Gen.

"Ok, I need to get to church before my mother loses her mind. Gen ride now or never." Tracy says with a salute and walks out of my bedroom door.

"This demon goes to church?" Gen asks shocked.

Tracy nods. "I'm no saint but I have faith Gen," she says rolling her eyes.

I follow them downstairs.

"Hey even though we remember none of it. Thanks for what I hope was a fun night." I laugh waving to them as they leave.

I close the door and turn around. Only three seconds pass before the doorbell rings.

My eyebrows furrow as I go and open it.

Gen stands there holding a muddy shoe. "I think this is yours. I found it on your bush." She hands it to me and I thank her.

Once I'm alone again I toss the shoe by the others. Don't know where the other one is...

"What the hell happened last night," I mumble but can't help but hide a small smile. I feel like a normal girl for once.

I walk into the kitchen and see Jessie drink coffee at the table. "Your friends left?" She asks.

"Yeah, thanks again for letting them crash here Jessie. It means a lot." I tell her honestly and she smiles.

"Any time you want to have people over let me know. I won't keep you from socializing. But no drugs or alcohol under this roof you hear me?" She says standing up. She walks over to me and places a hand on my shoulder. "Mr. Micknealing talked to me last night over the phone." She tells me and I purse my lips together.

"What'd he say now," I mumble.

"Nothing much just asking how you were doing and reminding me that it's a good thing if you did more teenage things. You know things kids your age should be doing. Like hanging with nice friends." She ruffles my hair and I feel loved and cared for. "I trust you hang out with the right group." She then says sternly.

"I hope I am," I say truly.

"Good because Brodie has definitely had a bad choice in friends." She laughs. "I'm working on that though." She sighs and I can see the stress under her eyes.

"Look Jessie I've been meaning to talk to you about something involving Br-" I try to say just as said man walks in.

"Morning." He yawns cutting me off short.

"Morning hun." Jessie smiles at her child. She doesn't know what he does.

Maybe it's just none of my business. I should just let it go.

"What were you saying, Alice?" She blinks and I stand there awkwardly playing with my sleeves.

"Nothing." I shake my head and glance at Brodie whose drinking the milk from the carton.

"Brodie! Put that down or get a glass!" Jessie scolds but I tune out their conversation lost in my own thoughts.

~~

Later that day I was sitting on my bed minding my own business. I was feeling relaxed reading my book and drinking tea.

My serene bubble is soon popped by my door slamming open loudly causing me to spill tea onto my lap.

I hiss out in pain as the hot liquid burns my thighs. Why'd I wear shorts?

"You have some sort of problem Alice." Brodie accuses and starts looking around my room without permission.

"What do you mean?" What could I have done? I mean, these past few days I've been doing everything I could to not anger him...

Brodie stops looking through my desk and only some of my unease fades away. But it comes back tenfold as he marches up to me and gets in close to my face.

"Stay away from Nick. He's not someone you can just play with. Don't sit by him either it's ruining my rep and his too." He tells me like it's obvious.

"Why I thought Nick..." I stammer.

"Cared about you?" Brodie laughs in my face making me feel stupid.

I didn't think he cared for me I just thought he was starting to see me as something more than just a loser.

"Nick cares for no one but himself and you're stupid for thinking he would." He takes the plate of cookies I made for myself and starts to eat two at a time.

"And frankly it's bothering me more than it should so do me a favor and leave us alone." He then takes my tea and I look in disgust as he chugs it.

"Don't make that face it isn't pretty." He smirks handing my tea back to me. More like an empty teacup.

"Anyways good chat. Jessie said I needed to talk to you more cause of your stupid problems. Like you can just fix this anxiety thing I feel like your making it up." He rolls his eyes before continuing. "So you're going to tell her we're getting along ok? Ok." He says and I remember his power over me. I can't go home! He stands up and goes to leave. He stops when he looks at my desk.

"Hmm. I like this." He says leaning down and looking at the antique glass light my grandma gave to me years ago.

"I think I'll take it." He says arrogantly and picks it up getting his icky fingerprints all over it. I wiped it down yesterday!

"No! My nana gave me that! She told me to always hold it close when she's gone it means a lot to me please don't-" I say quickly and stand up. She even had my name specifically engraved. I love that thing. Please don't take it Brodie.

I go to reach for it but he holds it above my head.

"Too bad. It's cool and I want it." He says and pretends to throw it.

I gasp and turn around to hear no shattering or see any movement.

I spin around and he's already gone.
