"Okay, it's your first day..no sweat!" Lilliana, my best friend, spoke over the phone. She lived three hours away, twice as long if you drove there. It was hard going to a new school without her. I had terrible trust issues and was awful at making friends. At my old school, Lilli was all I ever had.

"Lilli, I'll be fine." I sighed. I don't know who I was convincing more, Lilli or me. "Try to make friends!" I smiled, knowing that wouldn't happen at all. Not paying attention, a football was thrown at my head. It bounced off, falling into the green grass. "Are you okay?" A guy with light brown hair and chocolate eyes asked. I can admit he was cute, but he seemed like someone who would be a total jerk. I know I shouldn't judge a book by its cover but, I couldn't help it.

"Your aim is a little rusty." I rubbed my head. He looked taken back. "Actually, you walked in the middle of Marty and I, your fault." I glanced at him, "that was such a great apology!" I rolled my eyes, walking away from him. Hypothesis correct; he is a jerk.

As I walked into the high school, groups of friends laughed and hung together. I felt alone because I actually was. "You've gotten hotter." A girl with jet-black hair approached me. I couldn't think of her name, but I knew her. "Quinn, it's Ashley..do you not recognize me?" She laughed as I opened my locker.

"Ashley, I remember you; you were literally boy crazy when I left." She giggled to herself, "now I'm girl crazy!" I looked at her, hesitant with my words. "As in-" she nodded, "I'm lesbian, and I'm proud!" She didn't fail to yell. "Don't worry, I won't hit on you or anything!" She winked. I wasn't necessarily worried about that.

"Well, I have math first..bummer." I looked at my schedule. "Oh, I have English." She pointed towards a room. "That's Ms. Peña; try to be good. She's a real pain." She rolled her eyes, heading to class. I followed her directions, going to Ms. Peña's class.

I walked into the room, scanning the class. Everyone in this room, I didn't know at all. You would think that at least a few people I knew would be here.

I sat in the back, not really knowing where to sit. A girl sat in front of me, turning in her seat. "Anna- Mae." I didn't expect a southern accent from her. She extended her hand, I shook it. "I think we should be friends." Wow, she was straight to the point. Her eyes widened, "was that too fast?" I shook my head, assuringly. "No, I think we can be friends too." She sighed in relief, "good. I have this tendency to talk a lot and annoy people so..I don't have many friends." She said. I only nodded my head in response. "Am I doing it again?" She looked worried. I shook my head.

"Good." Ms. Peña waltzed in, just on time. "Alright, class, let's introduce ourselves." She clasped her hands. I didn't pay much attention to the introductions. "Miss Skies?" I looked up, cheeks red. I can't believe I zoned out like that.

Before Ms. Peña could lecture me for not paying attention, the guy with the terrible aim rushed in. "Mr. Sanders, how kind of you to join us!" She said sarcastically. He smiled back. "Regina, I never knew you liked me so much." Some erupted with laughter. I was surprised she didn't say a thing.

"Where were we?" She asked, rubbing her temple. "Quinn was going to introduce herself!" Anna-Mae shouted out; Ms. Peña smiled, "right." I stood up, like every other person who introduced themselves.

"I'm Quinn Olivia Skies. I just moved back here with my mom..that's all." I quickly sat down. I didn't appreciate all the attention on me. "Well, Mr. Sanders, you're the only one left." He shrugged.

Sluggishly rising from his seat, he winked at a few girls. "I'm Andre Sanders, quarterback and ladies man!-" Girls giggled. "I'm having a party this Friday, feel free to come!" That's when the class roared with cheers. Was it that exciting? "Alright, enough!" Ms. Peña snapped, shutting the students up.

"Next time you all do that, I'm giving up a quiz on the spot-" some boys snickered, not taking her threat seriously. "And you won't be able to pass it either." I'd have to remind myself to stay on her good side. "Since you're so immature, I'm going to go over all the school rules." Everyone groaned, including me. There was nothing fun about going over school rules.

Anna-Mae, Ashley, and I sat at one table. A blonde boy sat across from Anna-Mae. "These your new friends?" He asked without so much as a hi. She grinned, "yep." He looked at Ashley and me, "you sure?" She rolled her eyes, still keeping a smile on her face. "Stop it." She said, looking at us.

"This is my twin brother, Andy." She said, pointing to her male look alike. They both shared blonde hair with blue eyes. "Cool," Ashley said, then directed her attention to her phone. "I'm Quinn-" I rolled my eyes at Ashley. "This is Ashley." He looked at us with suspicion. Wow, he was really protective of Anna-Mae.

"I was just checking on you." He didn't speak to Ashley and me. He left the table without saying a word. "Your brother is an asshole," Ashley said, eyes still on her phone. "Ashley!" I nudged her.
Anna- Mae shrugged, "he's not really a people person." Ashley snorted, "we couldn't tell." Anna grinned. "I like you." Ashley looked up from her phone, lifting an eyebrow. "You swing that way too?" I didn't expect Ashley to be so forward. "Excuse me?" I chuckled at Anna-Mae's confusion. "I don't think she's lesbian, Ash." She looked at her phone after mumbling, "her loss."

Just then, a full table of guys went off in laughter; looking over at the scene, I was disturbed by what I saw. Andre Sanders was kissing a girl known as Evelyn Johnson in front of everyone.

"I wouldn't mind that; I heard she's a good kisser." Anna- Mae and I looked at Ashley. "Did I say that out loud?" She asked, embarrassed. "Loud and clear!" Anna- Mae said, looking at the scene again. "Andre seems like he could be a really nice guy." Anna voiced her thoughts. I scoffed, "yeah, right." She laughed, "no, really...if he didn't try to show off, he seems nice." I disagreed but, I wasn't going to argue about a boy.

"Honey, how was school? My mom asked. I got out of the Honda Civic. Mom had her knees on the ground, and she had gloves on her hands. "What are you doing?" I raised an eyebrow. "Gardening, it cleanses the soul." She inhaled, I chuckled. "You don't know the first thing about gardening." She shrugged, digging up a patch of dirt.

"I can learn." I gave her a thumbs-up, "have fun doing that." I went into the house. I called Lilli, she instantly answered. "How was it?" She asked excitedly. "Someone threw a football at my head-" she's grumbled, "asshole."

"And I reconnected with an old friend..oh, and I made a new friend!"

"That's great; I'm so proud of you!"

"Thanks, mom," I said sarcastically.

"Yeah, yeah."

"Hey, I've got to do something but, text me about it later?"

"Yeah."That was the only sad part, Lilli, and I didn't have much time to talk. Sometimes I wish I hadn't moved. Let's hope tomorrow will be better!
