I couldn't sleep at all since the events from past few hours kept flashing in front of my eyes. My smile was stuck on my face and I kept dreaming about my future.

I had never thought that I would be getting married like this but instead of complaining, I was really happy. I had planned to ask dad about the marriage date tomorrow since he was sleeping right now.

Mom was really happy when I told her about my date and she told me her plans for the wedding. We spent some mother-daughter time together after a long time and I observed her as she told me all the things she would do in my wedding.

I didn't tell her that I told Yuvaan about my virginity. She would scold me for telling him and I didn't want a lecture. So, I kept my mouth shut. And what was the use of telling her anyway? Yuvaan had no problem so I didn't feel the need to tell her that.

After gossiping for three hours, we left for our respective rooms and mom assured me that dad would explain everything tomorrow. I was trying to close my eyes but sleep was nowhere near.

So, I just decided to make some designs which had popped up in my mind. I could use them in my portfolio. I would work on the 3D designs later. For now, sketches would do.

I finally fell asleep around 4 am and had made around five sketches; one for my dream home, two for a cafe and the other two were for a test which was I planning to give for a company.

I woke up the next afternoon and did my daily routine. I went out of my room around 1 pm as my stomach was begging for food. I ran down the stairs and was about to enter the kitchen, when dad called me.

"Reyna, come here!"

I walked towards him and saw him sitting in the living room with a lady. She was so beautiful. I couldn't take my eyes off from her. Her face was glowing and she smiled at me when she saw me.

"Hello, Reyna. How are you?" she asked in a silky smooth voice.

"I am fine," I replied.

"She is really beautiful," she commented this to dad.

I thanked her and dad told me to sit down on the sofa. I did as said and soon, a Pandit arrived. Dad got up and said 'Namaste' to him and guided him to sit with us.

(👆 Pandit:- A scholar or teacher in any field of knowledge in Hinduism, particularly the Vedic scriptures, dharma, Hindu philosophy or secular subjects like music.)

Pandit uncle looked at me and suddenly his expressions changed. His bright smile got replaced with a frown as he observed me. Dad motioned for him to sit down and called a maid to bring some drinks and water for him.

Why was Pandit uncle looking at me like that?

"What's the matter Pandit ji? Why do you look so worried?" Dad asked.

Pandit ji shook his head and took out some documents from his bag. He laid them out on the table and I noticed that they were horoscope sheets. I didn't ask anything since I realised what was going on.

I had just one doubt. Who was the lady that was sitting with us?

"Pandit ji, she is Shruti Raichand, Yuvaan's mother," dad said and I gaped at her.

She smiled at all of us and introduced herself. She had especially came from New York for this meeting. I couldn't believe my eyes. She could easily pass for Yuvaan's elder sister.

She was wearing a plain baby blue saree with golden sleeveless blouse. Her long black hair were parted to the side and she had no makeup on her face.

(Yuvaan's mom's outfit👆)

She was a natural beauty. Just like Yuvaan.

"Reyna, beta. We have decided to hold your marriage after two weeks. Sorry I couldn't inform you earlier but it was really urgent," dad explained.

"Urgent?" I asked.

"Pandit ji will explain further."

At this we all turned towards Pandit uncle who was staring at me all this time. His eyes had turned into slits and it looked like a permanent crease had formed between his eyebrows.

He looked away from me and smiled at dad and Yuvaan's mother. "The marriage between Yuvaan Raichand and Reyna Bakshi should be done within this month or there are no good marriage dates in the future."

"Why is that so Pandit ji? Did you check everything properly?" Aunty, Yuvaan's mom asked as she picked up a paper and looked through it.

"Yes, Shruti ji. I understand your concern but it is like that only. I spent the whole night to find other dates and pinpoint where the problem was but in the end, the only date I got was after two weeks from today."

"Thank you for your efforts but can you please tell me what exactly was the problem?"

"Actually, there is no issue in Yuvaan beta's kundali (horoscope) but......" He glanced at me and calculated his words, "I just found some weird issues in her kundali."

Dad furrowed his eyebrows and I also looked at Pandit ji in confusion. What was he talking about? Why wouldn't he just say it?

"But it is okay. I have sorted out that issue and the only solution to avoid major problems would be to get the children married on the date I specified," he explained and everyone relaxed.

"Thank you, Pandit ji," dad and Aunty said in unison.

Pandit uncle also smiled at them but his eyes kept darting to me. I was having weird sensation in my gut. So, I got up from there and left the elders to discuss everything. I sensed Pandit uncle tracking my every moment but I ignored him.

I went in the kitchen and served food for myself. I sat down on the dining table and began eating. It was my favourite dal chawal. I took two more servings and after my stomach was satisfied, I decided to just stay in the dining room only.

(Dal chawal👆)

From here, I could see dad along with the guests. Meanwhile, I searched some architecture designs on my mobile. I took some snapshots and saved them in my phone.

After an hour, I noticed everyone getting up from the sofa and shaking hands with each other. They were leaving. I moved out of the dining room and went to say my good-byes.

Yuvaan's mom gave me a warm hug and patted my head. I really liked her and felt lucky to have her as my future mother-in-law. She gave me some gifts she had brought for me and I thanked her enthusiastically.

Dad laughed at my reaction and told me to touch her feet. I completely forgot that. Aunty refused but still I did it. It was our culture. She gave me her blessing and told me that she was really glad to meet me. I returned the gesture and after that I turned to touch Pandit uncle's feet.

He patted my head with a Rudraksh chain instead of his hand. I straightened up and dad told him to give me his blessings. Pandit ji waited for few seconds, staring at me as if he was looking through me.

(Rudraksh chain👆)

"Abhishaptam aashirvachnam vā mum nishachatih nasti param kakshenham shubham te bhuyat. Tathastu," he said in Sanskrit. Since, no one understood what he said, we just nodded our heads and smiled at him.

He took his leave after glancing at me in the end. He mumbled something under his breath as he left but I heard what he said. Something like, "Kasyaapi vishye kim vā kathyaani yasya bhagyam apratyashitam...."

It was again in our ancient language and I didn't know it so I let it go.

Shruti aunty also got in her car and drove off. Dad patted my shoulder and I gave him a small smile. He was really happy and told me to tell my friends to start preparing for my marriage. There wasn't much time on hand so we had to rush up things.

I nodded my head and he went inside the house. I also followed him and went to my room. Arman was in college and mom had gone to do some shopping. I was getting bored so I decided to read a book which I was planning to read for months.

I took it out from the shelf and sat down on the couch in front of my window. As I started skimming through the pages, Pandit ji's voice kept resonating in my ears. What he had said was stuck in my head.

So, I picked up my phone and decided to search for what his words meant but found nothing. Moreover, I had jumbled up the sentences so now I got more confused. After half an hour, I got tired and left the search.

I focused on reading the book. It was a nice novel and I managed to read twenty pages before I got distracted again. Arman came in my room and sat down beside me. He kept poking me and I gave him a dead look.

"Ask me what happened," he said and wiggled his eyebrows.

I ignored him and he pouted. He always did that; instead of telling directly what happened, he would ask me to ask him to tell me. I narrowed my eyes at him.

"Ask na, Di." He took the book from me and closed it.

"Okay, fine. Tell me what happened. I am really excited to hear it."

He ignored my sarcasm and took a deep breath. "Yuvaan Raichand, I mean your future husband came to my college today."

"What?"

"Yes. And you know what he did?" He took a dramatic break.

"Just tell me, will you? Stop with the suspense," I scolded him.

"Chill, I am coming to the point. He had come there to observe the academic performance and management since he is one of the investors. Everyone was rushing to see him and I was unaware of it. I didn't go to see who the person was since I was with Neeya at that time in the cafeteria."

I nodded and told him to continue.

"He was on an inspection, so he came in the cafeteria and when he spotted me, he himself came to greet me and hugged me," he gushed.

"He remembered you?" I raised my eyebrows at him in surprise.

"Yes, he did. He asked about my studies and chatted with me like we were friends. Other students were looking at me in bewilderment and he left after that. He didn't show off his wealth, Di. He is a really good guy and I accept him as my brother-in-law," he boasted.

I laughed at him when he could not stop gushing about Yuvaan. So, he had become his fan too and I was not complaining. I was glad that he was happy with this marriage. I ruffled his hair and then we went downstairs to watch a movie with our parents.

But mom and dad were already busy with arrangements. They informed me that the engagement will be done one day before Mehndi ceremony. So, I could relax tonight but I would have to look after house work since mom would be busy in the preparations.

I agreed and they both got busy with their work again. So, Arman and I decided to watch the movie ourselves. It was the last peaceful night before the whole marriage fiasco began.

Sorry for the Sanskrit dialogues. I tried my best to write them and I have purposely not translated them 😉 Bits of those meanings will be revealed in upcoming chapters.
