"Bang!"

I froze in my spot as my eyes zeroed in on the mouth of a gun pointed in front of my face; just an inch away. That was all I could see. I gulped nervously and moved my head back when I processed what was happening.

Yuvaan was holding the gun and smiling from ear to ear. He looked like he would shoot any minute. I quickly shifted away and my back hit the headrest. I glanced between the gun and my husband.

"Are you scared?" he asked in a voice which seemed mocking to me.

I nodded my head and he smirked. "You should be."

What was he talking about?

He looked all over me and then shifted closer. I scooted away on instinct and he grabbed my right hand. He yanked me closer; our faces just inches apart. I could feel his hot breath on my face.

I should have been scared since he had a gun in his hand, but my mind-body co-ordination was malfunctioning. My mind was signalling me to move away but my body was reacting on its own.

Yuvaan brought his right hand up and put the gun on my temple. I shivered as the cold metal touched my skin. He moved the gun to my cheek slowly and then stopped under my jaw. He titled my face up and then ran the weapon along my neck.

He tightened his grip on my hand when he sensed me flinching. He trailed the gun over my chest and I took a sharp intake of breath. He let out a deep chuckle at my reaction but didn't let me go.

Yuvaan removed the saree's pallu aside and pointed the muzzle at my heart. He looked at me with a cold expression as his eyes twinkled with something which can only be described as sinistrous.

I was too shocked to say anything. My whole body was trembling but no word came out of my mouth. I was fucking scared.

"Should I pull the trigger?" he asked slowly and I widened my eyes.

He was kidding, right? Was this some kind of prank he was playing?

"Say it, Reyna. Yes or no?" He titled his head to the side.

I shook my head and he dug the gun deeper in my skin. I winced and he looked like he was enjoying it. I grabbed his hand with my left one and he raised his eyebrows in surprise.

"So, you don't want to die?" he asked and I nodded furiously.

"Say it!" he commanded.

"Ye-yes," I replied in a broken voice.

"Then get the fuck out of my room!" he roared and I backed away instantly.

He towered over me and grabbed my chin. "Get the hell out or I will shoot you!"

"Wh-why are y-you acting like th-this? A-are you jo-joking?" I asked with a shaking voice.

Why was he behaving like that? He was acting completely opposite from the Yuvaan I knew.

"Does this look like acting to you?!" He shot a flower vase on the side table beside me.

The vase shattered with its pieces flying all around, getting mixed with the petals of the flowers which were in it.

I closed my ears with my hands at the sudden sound and jumped in fright. To prove his point, Yuvaan fired again and the bullet passed just mere inches away from my right side, hitting the wall. I stumbled out of the bed and hid myself in a corner.

"Are you deaf? I said move out! You are not allowed in this room. If you don't move your feet, next bullet will be in your head, Reyna," he said in a threatening voice and pointed the gun at me.

I didn't want to believe what was happening. It seemed like I was having a nightmare. The person standing before me was someone else; he was not my husband. Yuvaan was a nice person, not someone who would shoot his wife-or anyone.

But when he started walking towards me, I saw another face of him. He didn't have the same soft expression which I had grown fond of, but a scowl which seemed to be permanently etched on his face.

He grabbed my hand and pulled me towards the door. I cried and asked him if I did something wrong, but he didn't respond and threw me out of his room. I landed on the floor with a loud thud and soon, my luggage also joined me.

"Only my queen deserves to be here, not some trash like you!" he thundered and shut the door close.

I just stared at the wooden surface, the image of his outraged face still flickering in front of my eyes. I picked myself up and knocked on the door feebly, but he didn't take me back inside. I glanced around me and there was no one else.

I looked at my luggage and then back at the door. I thought he would come out any minute and say that it was all a joke, but he never did.

Everything happened so suddenly that I didn't get to know why Yuvaan reacted like that. I didn't remember committing any mistake nor did he mention anything about something like that.

Suddenly, I felt a hand on my right shoulder and I turned around to see who it was. An old lady in a white and black gown was looking at me sadly. She wiped my tears and hugged me. I collapsed in her arms as she consoled me. I didn't even know her identity.

"Calm down, beta," she said softly and I asked her who she was.

"I am Grace, this house's Head maid."

As I was about to ask her about Yuvaan, the door opened up, and Yuvaan narrowed his eyes at me. He had changed his sherwani and was wearing a grey t-shirt and black three-fourths.

"Nana, get the bed sheets changed asap. I don't want any dirt in my room," he addressed Grace and she quickly nodded.

Yuvaan closed the door again and Grace glanced at me. She gave me a sympathetic look and went away to complete the order. I moved my luggage to the side and slumped down beside it.

I didn't know what I was supposed to do and why my husband was treating me like that. Shruti aunty was also not here to tell me what was going on. I just hoped it was all a joke.

My mind was a mess!

Grace soon returned with new bed sheets and knocked on Yuvaan's door. He let her in and rolled his eyes when he saw me. He went back inside and after a few minutes, Grace got out of the room.

She saw me and picked me up by hand. She took me downstairs and ordered two male servants to get my luggage. She told me to stop crying but I couldn't help it. I was feeling so lost.

We walked to the back of the house and entered servants' quarters. I saw a lot of women and men looking at me and murmuring among themselves. Grace shut them all up and took me to a room at the far end of the corridor.

She told me to change my clothes and went away to bring some food for me. When she arrived back, I was already dressed in my pyjamas. I had put my wedding dress and jewellries back in my suitcase.

I ate the food while the incident that happened just minutes ago kept replaying in my mind.

"Do you know anything?" I asked in a low voice and Grace looked away.

"I am not in the position to say anything about it," she replied pensively and I nodded in understanding.

She was a nice lady, maybe around fifty years of age. Her hair had turned all white but her face still looked young, with very few wrinkles around her mouth and eyes. She looked really elegant and sophisticated.

She told me she had taken care of Yuvaan since he was a toddler and he treated her just like his mother. I observed her as she told me about her and I felt bad for myself.

What did I do for him to treat me so badly?

"Don't think too much, beta. Just sleep and take some rest. You need it," she said and put me in the bed.

She left after glancing at me and switched off the lights on her way. She closed the door behind her, and I sat up on the bed. I pulled my knees closer and put my hands on them. I rocked myself back and forth as fresh stream of tears rolled down my cheeks.

Let it be a dream. Let it be a dream. Everything is alright.

I hugged myself and fell asleep like that. I was woken up by a maid around 9 am. I freshened up and went outside. I roamed around and asked if Yuvaan was still in his room.

One maid told me that he had already left for his business meeting in the morning. He wouldn't be returning for another four days. She left after saying that and continued her work.

Yuvaan left without saying anything to me. So, he wasn't just joking. I went back in my room in the servant quarters-it wasn't even mine-and stood beside the window. I could see a beautiful garden with all varieties of flowers, and some kids who were playing around.

They looked so carefree and happy. I wished I could also join them and forget everything.

I took a deep breath and decided to call up my parents. I took out my phone from the bag and dialled mom's number. She picked it up within seconds and before I could say anything, she started telling me how everyone was complimenting her and dad for such a lavish marriage.

I listened to her and waited for her to stop rambling but she got called by dad for some work, and then she hung up the call. I clutched the phone in my hand tightly and stopped myself from yelling profanities.

She didn't even ask me how I was doing!

Talking to dad would be another headache. I tried calling up my brother, but then I realised that he must be in some lecture. Keerti must be still asleep while Upasana must be on some date.

I still tried and called her up, but as expected, I was directed to the voice mail. I left her a message to call me later and went back to observe the kids playing in the garden.

Suddenly, I remembered yesterday's event and felt a chill run down my spine. Gun, firing, Yuvaan's odd behaviour and him calling me trash. It hadn't been even one day since I entered this house, and I already felt abandoned.

Moreover, Yuvaan wasn't even here for me to ask him for an explanation. There must be a reason why he acted like that, but what could it be for him to point a gun at me?

Wasn't I his wife? How could he treat me like this?

It was just the start, though.

A short chapter, I know but I will try to update next chapter soon ๐Ÿ’œ
