Chapter 38b – Chris POV

My eyes widened, “Answer. Me.” Rainy repeated but I’m not sure anyone would, could answer her. We were all to damned stunned. Her body was shimmering, shaky and had a silver glow. Her eyes no longer her beautiful blue eyes, they were silver like her coat as a wolf. Her hair was slowly changing, strand-by-strand, to a dark purple mixed with Lilac. There was coldness around, that wasn’t there before. However, I couldn’t concentrate on that because the chill took over me physically now.

“Rainy! Stop!” Logan shouted, the – whatever Rainy was doing stopped. I gasped, the air inhaled uncomfortably. Burning as it entered my lungs. What the hell was that? I asked myself. Mom came into the room just then, her steps faltered when she laid eyes on Rainy.

“Mom, get Kayla and change her clothes, she wet herself,” I murmured but my eyes were on Rainy. Once again captivated by what just happened, dazed I watched dark purple and lilac strands of hair resume their normal strawberry blonde. Her silver eyes now back to their lovely blue.

As mom scurried off with Kayla, Rainy sighed, but she wasn’t calmed by any means.

“I-” Amazing. She was confused though. So was I. everyone in the room was actually. Her eyes glazed over, “What did you all do to her? She pulled…” and I felt it. Her pain, the fear and for one minute I knew this new Rainy in front of me. The way she thought. The one whose biggest fear was that in the outside, no longer held captive mentally and physically, our children would blame her for all the abuse each suffered. She hadn’t said it outright but I fucking knew it.

“Love no, she pulled away because she thinks you’ll be mad at her when you found out what – what happened…” I said glancing at Shavon. I didn’t know how to break this to her but with the glare she was sending my way I really couldn’t beat around the fucking bush here. Rainy was in mama wolf now. Even what she just did here would have to wait.

Rainy finally – really – took in the room. Her gaze flying from me to Lucy, near dad, her eyes and face still wet from earlier tears. To Nico whom Logan had Sebastian restraining but he was looking sadly at his mate.

Again the coldness was starting up.

“RAINY! STOP!” Logan said in an Alpha tone, a direct order that should have instantly ended whatever Rainy was doing but it didn’t, not at all.

Fists at her side, her eyes were glowing silver once again, focused solely on Logan this time. He was gritting his teeth like I had – I didn’t even finish the thought before I slowly approached my mate.

“Love, Logan didn’t mean to anger you… he’s just worried about our babies. We handled Kayla not speaking wrong. She – she told us why she hasn’t been talking…” I started off but Rainy was shimmering still. Reaching blindly I was hand Kayla’s drawing by someone.

“Logan and Masen found almost four months-” just then Abby – Logan’s mate – rushed into the room glancing between Logan and Rainy. Seeing her mate in danger she made a move towards Rainy, fury in her eyes.

“Abby! No!” Logan gritted out, “Don’t hurt her!” he panted, and I knew I had to speak faster.

“In those four months, you were pregnant – we think. Someone besides Seth,” she didn’t even flinch at his name, “Was caring – was with you. You gave birth and Kayla said you were really sick. The man took our pups Rainy. Kayla said they were alive but he made her lie… said he would give you medicine if she said the babies died… rainy someone out there has our pups,” I said pointing to the picture and the shimmering ended, the silver eyes turned stormy blue.

I waited as her eyes watered and Logan sighed deeply next to me, winching. Probably because the air burned in his chest as it had with me. Rainy cocked her head to the side, and I could tell she was back from the flicker of understanding and recognition. Despite her face morphing to confusion rapidly.

Abby ran to Logan, “What?” Rainy whispered hoarsely, shaking her head back and forth.

“Are you alright?” Abby murmured behind or to the side of me…”Never ever try to harm my sister,” he said softly. “She was-”

Logan stopped her midsentence, “Never,” he whispered and all I realized was how much I owed to him. That and how fucking crazy my family was.

“Chrissy?” Rainy whimpered. So I approached her, slowly, carefully, until I was less than a foot away from her but I didn’t go any closer, our progress as mates was all her, but right now she needed answers and comfort. I listened to her heart beating wildly inside her chest, mine aching for hers.

“You were sick Love, and he made her choose so she didn’t want you to die-” I stopped when she shook her head; the tears in her eyes weren’t falling. “Why did she pull away from me though?” she whispered.

“She’s scared but she was so brave to tell us, we are the ones that messed up Rainy, we showed her a picture of-”

Anger raged, her stormy eyes darkened, “Why would you show her pictures of those horrible men?” she asked confused, but didn’t stop to let me answer. “Haven’t they been through enough? If you want an ID you ask me… not them!” she shouted stepping back away from me, as I hung my head.

“What the hell are you two here for if not to advise us not to do what they just did?” she shouted at Shavon and Juliet. She was completely right, it was a bad idea, but in my defense I was focused on having two babies out in the world and not knowing if they were okay or not. Rainy and the others suffered immensely, the chances that my two children were out there being carefully taken care of, or loved was a long shot.

“Why didn’t you wake me? I said we would make decisions together Chris…” she sounded so sad as the words left her mouth only increasing the guilt I felt…

No one said a word, until Logan came up to us, “it was in the moment Rainy, and we weren’t trying to go behind your back. It’s not Chris’ fault either when I asked him to show her pictures, he shot me down first…” Logan said pitifully in my defense, we had handled it wrong.

I was still holding Kayla’s poster “Who are the other stick figures?” she said after a while, not replying to what Logan said.

“Well, the babies, bad man who made her lie, Nico, and a woman named Lynda…” I said carefully, then putting the picture aside I went on to start from the beginning, telling her word for word what Kayla said. Everything that happened up to when she came in the room after Juliet went to get her… and then I held her as she cried, apologizing for not protecting those two babies, like anyone held her responsible. Nothing I could say would make those insecure feelings go away, words would only lessen what she was feeling, and I had no right to make her feel or think that she wasn’t entitled to those feelings. She was. Even if they were wrong and twisted, that was how she felt and I wasn’t about to belittle that at all.

“I hate when you feel that way about yourself, I hate that you’re taking blame when it isn’t your fault… no one is at fault here but those people Rainy. Someone paid for our children and didn’t have a second thought to how or who they were taking them from….” I whispered choosing my words carefully. “Kayla thought she was bad for lying, but I told her Rainy, she’s so brave, she saved you… she stopped talking because the bad man said Nico’s name-”

“I didn’t hurt them, I have – I wouldn’t hurt a child,” Nico piped up and Rainy lifted her head from my chest, my shirt now wet as my damp bottoms.

“Anyone could have that name...” Rainy said to me, glancing between Logan and I, before flickering to Lucy who was still keeping her distance from Nico.

“He never came down there… he could’ve just called someone who hurt us, or it could be someone else completely…” she defended Nico.

“Do you guys have any idea how many men who I’m sure people on the outside, their families, all think they are friends with, married too, have children with ‘stand up guys,’ but those guys were coming once a week to – to,” she shook her head and swallowed loudly. My own stomach churned at her words. She wasn’t off base… look at Derrick.

“Let me see the pictures you were going to show Kayla,” she demanded her voice shaky; as was her body but the determination in her eyes blew me away. Kayla had to get her bravery from someone, and she got it from her mother.

Logan picked up the ipad, and reluctantly came forward, “You can’t – don’t question them about that time away Logan, let them speak about it when they are ready…” she whispered looking at her brother, his eyes sad.

“I know you don’t want me to be reminded of what happened, or hurt me by asking questions but if the choice is ask me or them, always ask me… there are a few times were I – I was weak-“

“No!” both Logan and I said at the same time, but he let me handle this one, “You were never weak! That’s why he kept you so long, he was trying to break that part of you Rainy,” I said how I saw it, believing that completely. Rainy needed help, and she was speaking with Shavon, but that always took a backseat when it came to our children. Her self-image was distorted and I hated that, but I felt like a fish out of water there too, and she needed to heal as well.

Just as Kayla had, Rainy ignored our words concentrating on the ipad, “this isn’t him,” she murmured not looking up.

“Swipe your finger it’ll go to the next one,” Logan said across from us, and Rainy did as he said, shaky fingers and racing heart, each time she went to a new picture, and her breathing was escalating. I slowly placed a hand on her back, slowly rubbing, trying to ease the panic building inside her.

After 10 pictures, “Love, close your eyes, relax for a bit…” I said hoping to help her through this, even so much as going inside her head earlier when we spoke of that time, but the image in her head of this guy was so blurry. Everything she thought of in those four months were hazy…

Thankfully she did what I said, breathing deeply, her shallow breaths fading away, until she started again, and after 17 more photo’s she growled, stopping on a young man. Dark hair, even darker eyes, sharp jaw, olive like complexion, bright smile, shiny white teeth. Once again Rainy’s words hit me hard, she was right… if I had seen this guy on the street, I wouldn’t know that secretly he was a pedophile… Looking at the picture, the suit, which even from a picture alone I could tell was expensive I wouldn’t think he was a bad person capable of hurting children.

“This is him… he’s the one that he left us with for those months…” Rainy said handing the ipad back to Logan who just nodded, “Find my babies Bubba,” she added. Not a request an order… Logan bowed his head in understanding.

“You know this guy?” Logan said asking Nico.

I watched his face, his lips, eyes everything, hoping that he didn’t, “Yeah I know him,” he whispered his face green, he looked up at Rainy and I.

“I didn’t know… I – I’m so – I didn’t know, I swear,” he said pleadingly, “his name is Tomas Morris…” the name didn’t ring a bell but it did with Lucy. She gasped, her lips moving quickly.

“Oh god…”

“I didn’t know Luce, I swear it…” Nico said this time looking at my sister, his mate, but Lucy just shook her head.

“Where can we find him?” Logan asked Nico, as Rainy just sat on me not acknowledging the room anymore from the dazed look on her face.

“Indiana,” Nico answered.

His voice brought her out of it, “Lucy, its like I said, you can be friends with someone that was hurting us and never even know it…” she shrugged. It was like she was telling Lucy that her shoes didn’t match. No feeling, no emotion, completely monotone. My heart ached a little bit more so with my mate near me I just tightened my hold on her.

“You better hope for your sake that-”

“No, Alpha, Rainy, Chris, Luce, I don’t need to hope, I didn’t know, I haven’t spoken to Tomas in over nine months. He was planning a trip to visit us, with – with” his words faltered and Lucy just sobbed.

“What?” I was confused.

“His family, wife and children?” Rainy said in that robotic voice again, and my stomach turned, I swallowed the bile forcing it’s way up. “Lucy, Nico never hurt us, if he had you would’ve felt it, because anyone that came down there came with one intention and paid good money to get it too.” I bit my lip, no. This shouldn’t have happened. Not to anyone. Anywhere.

“Find my babies Bubba,” Rainy said in her normal tone, and left the room leaving all of us speechless. I couldn’t move, “Chris you’re looking kinda…” I couldn’t hear over the ringing in my ears but suddenly there was a wastebasket thrust into my hands and I emptied my stomach. Heaving when there was nothing left to dispel.

Standing I went to the washroom to rinse my mouth out, ignoring the stares of pity…

.

.

.

When I returned to the room, Logan, Lucy, Dad, Juliet, and Shavon were still present, Nico, Sebastian, Abby and Masen were gone.

I sent a questioning look at Lucy, “he’s going to tell Masen and the rest everything he knows about Tomas... they’re also looking into the name Lynda and or anyone he knows that had two babies around the time Rainy was pregnant…” I didn’t bother sitting with them, I left in the same direction that Rainy went, and found her in Kayla’s bed speaking in whispers to our child.

Standing off to the side I just listened, “Papa is so right… you did save me baby… you aren’t bad, you did nothing wrong, and I’m not mad. I’d never let anyone send you away…” Rainy repeated my words from earlier… the room was silent, but then I heard Kayla’s small voice.

“But I didn’t – momma I didn’t help the babies…” I closed my eyes, resting my head back against the wall, waiting for Rainy to respond.

“I didn’t save them either Kayla… sometimes we aren’t strong enough to make the bad things stop happening, but that doesn’t mean we are bad because we aren’t, you aren’t bad…” Rainy replied and my eyes watered because I knew the truth. I knew that what Rainy was telling our daughter was the truth, but not the truth that Rainy held herself too. I didn’t blame her for it, they fucked with her mind, made her think that she could do more, but she couldn’t. They gave her just enough hope to make it seem as though she didn’t try hard enough, fight fiercer than she had.

“Papa said I wasn’t bad… but – but then I wet myself, maybe he’s mad about that-” no. Just fucking no. Standing straight off the wall, I inhaled deeply before showing myself, walking over to Rainy and Kayla.

“I’m not mad at you sweetheart, I was wrong to show you those pictures,” I told her, surprising them both, but Rainy just played it off, “see… he isn’t mad.”

Kayla nodded on her pillow, she looked between Rainy and I, “what if the bad man is hurting the babies?” her lips shook.

“Then your Uncle Logan will find them, and deal with them… like he found you and your momma and your siblings,” I said trusting my words fully.

Inside I was dying as I am sure Rainy was, two of our children, unknown to us are out there… hopefully we would have answers soon.

Personal feelings on this chapter: hmm... it's rough but, I think it's written well enough to give you a hint about Rainy. She's powerful, not Chelsea powerful but more powerful than Logan...And I know readers are wondering if she's so powerful how come she couldn't free herself? Wolfs bane and silver. She was too weak, Seth was starving her and those kids. Now the poison is leaving her system, she's eating... it's coming out slowly.

SO WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK HER GIFT IS BASED ON WHAT I WROTE??

Romance between Chris and Rainy: it's going to be subtle... I'm not going to rush it. I have 63 chapters planned for this story before it's over.

Rainy's reaction to finding out about the babies: she's holding a lot of that in... but obviously it can't stay going on that way. She cried and apologized but she's internalizing too much. So just hang in there with me I promise to really get to the heart of the matter...

But tell me what you guys think? I love to hear it :)

Nico is the same Nico from the phone call BUT, he IS NOT involved...

ohhhh and the picture... that's what Rainy's hair looked like, but just longer...
