MAX

I walked inside Masons house with a smile on my face as big as the boner I'd have, if i would actually have one.

After I closed the door and locked it, I began to hear voices, not the usual ones I hear in my head, but some coming from the living room.

"Maze" I call out, adjusting the grin I had to the usual dead look I always carry

"Max, in here. Come I want you to meet someone" Mason shouts from the living room

I walk in seeing Mason and a girl with short blonde hair sitting on the couch. They were both smiling at each other and pecking each others lips, when Mason senses me in the room. He was still looking at the blonde girl when he spoke to me

"Max, this is Riley, my girlf-" his sentence was cut short when he finally removes his gaze from the blonde and looks up to see me.

His mouth drops and his eyes widen, he quickly jumps up from the couch and walks up to me grabbing both of my hands

"Wow, Max. You look..... Wow" he breaths out bringing me closer to him for a hug

"Thanks" I muffle out, since I'm being pressed on his cheek.

He lets go of me and takes in my attire with a large smile, shaking his head in amusement "No but honestly Max you look amazing!" He grins

"Geez your starting to sound like Troy, it's just a dress"

I roll my eyes but then nod at the direction of his friend, reminding him that he has company he wanted to introduce me to.

He furrows his eyebrows confused of what I was signaling at until Riley clears her throat. Mason's eyes widen again turning back to see the girl sitting on his couch with a irked look on her face

"Shit, sorry" he smiles sheepishly looking looking at Riley, then me, then back to Riley

I stay standing on the same spot I was when I entered the living room motionless, and see Riley giving him a stiff smile, observing the death glares she was throwing to an oblivious Mason.

"So, Max this is Riley, my girl. Riley baby this is Max, my best friend" he introduces us. The girl stands from the couch and motions herself to me saying a "hi" short after, I simply raise my hand up as a form of hello

"She's Max?" she's asks Mason with disbelief, raising her eyebrows high enough to touch her hairline.

He nods his head and she raises them up even more, "From what you told me, I imagined her alot different in my head" she tells him

I raise an eyebrow at her, Well what the hell was she imagining I looked like from what Mason had told her?

A monster.

I don't blame her. I really am.

"Well I'm sorry I wasn't what you expected, am I that disappointing?" I ask her, crossing my arms above my chest with a raised brow

"N-no, I didn't mean it like that at all" she falters as she turns pink from her face "its just from the things that Mason said about you, well, it just made you seem like a total meg that hates everything and everyone and likes to fight and cause chaos. Maybe only wears black saggy pants and black hoodies two sizes larger than you. I mean, I really wasn't expecting to see a girl so.... well attractive" she stammers looking me up and down

"you forgot one more thing about me doll" I tell her, amused at the way she imagined me

She furrows her eyebrows "what?"

"Satanic" I smirk

She widens her eyes "w-what?" she aks with an alarmed expression

She turns to look at Mason, "babe is she for reals?" she whispers to him, terribly since I still heard what she said

Mason rolls his eyes "No, babe she's only kidding" he assures her narrowing his eyes at me, and I shrug

"Yea, I'm just funny that way" I state drily

Mason chuckles and hugs Riley "trust me babe, Max is the best friend anyone can have, scary as hell, but the best"

Riley smiles at him, although the jealousy in her face is evident.

"Well I'm gonna go get ready for bed" I state walking closer to Riley, extending my hand out for hers "It was nice meeting you Riley, I can tell Mason really likes you" I tell her as she shakes my hand having her smile genuinely at me for the first time since I gotten here.

I walk past Mason and he grabs me for another hug "Night Maxy, I'll be back later. I'm gonna go take Ri home" he states

I nod and wave them off, heading to Masons room in search for some clothes to sleep in.

DAMIEN,

MONDAY

"I read your reports on Liam, I'm glad to hear he's learning from you son, most important, I'm glad to know that you're getting along with him" Captain Smith tells me

It was late afternoon and the captain had asked me to have lunch with him, something we would do once or twice a week. This time though, we ordered take out instead of leaving the station.

"I tolerate him Sir, not so sure I can consider him an acquaintance already" I state grabbing the fried rice and orange chicken out of the white container with my wooden chop sticks.

Captain Smith laughs and continues to eat, wiping his mouth with a paper towel "well atleast you haven't tortured the poor lad, so I'm fine with that" he smiles up at me and continues his conservation

"So how was the dinner party, I apologized to Meredith yesterday for not going, Linda wasn't feeling well" he takes a sip of his coffee before taking another bite of his egg roll.

A small smile involuntarily outlines my mouth "it was good..... great actually" the small smile forms into one that is easy to see as I remember the heated kiss I had with Max.

That night I went home happier than I had in a while. But yesterday came by, Sunday, and I couldn't find it in me to call Max.

Instead, I immersed myself in my father's study, and helped him file important documents and

setup meetings with some hard to find bureaucrats that are willing to partner with my fathers coffee company.

"Well, then that story is for another day, becasue our hour lunch is over" Captain Smith says getting up from his leather chair to throw away his trash

"Story, Sir?" I question, mimicking his actions

He narrows his gray brows at me "son, I'm old not blind, plus I didn't become captain because of my good looks, entirely," he jokes "I noticed that smile when I asked you about the dinner party, and if I'm not mistaken, it might have a story behind it, no?"

Yes Captain Smith, my smile has to do with me sticking my tounge into a delicious seveteen years old mouth.

"Nothing that would be so interesting to narrate" I respond calmly

"If you say so" he sighs picking up the telephone from on top of his desk that's been ringing for the past twenty seconds

After throwing away my trash I was about to head back to my desk when I hear the captain call for me,

"I need you to head to the highschool on North Avenue, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. High School I believe it's called. There's been a brawl between five or more students." he states as I approach him

"That's the school my little sister goes to" I recall

"Its the second time this past week they called regarding a fight" he tells me going back to his desk "but you shouldn't worry, Jasmine is a good kid. I can guarantee you that this has nothing to do with her" he assures me, leaning back into his leathered chair

Jasmine isn't the one that I'm worried about.

"Now, quit waisting time, and go down there, the vice principal was the one who called, Mr. Wallis, so head to his office, they should all be there, the fight has already been broken. But you will have to right a report and see if there will be anybody pressing chargers. Oh and take Penn with you too" he adds scratching his beard, and going back to his computer.

I nod and head to my desk, letting Liam, the rookie I've been training know that we're needed at the highschool, since he unfortunately sits next to my desk it didn't take long to find him and head out.

-

We arrived at the highschool a little under fifteen minutes. I had already parked and Liam and I were walking inside the bulidng, looking for the principal's office. The halls were empty, maybe one or two kids walking around or at their lockers.

We spotted two large glass doors with a small sign that read 'Principal's Office'. Liam opened the door, letting me enter first.

When we entered, the receptionists greeted us and lead us into the principal's office quickly, knowing exactly why we were here in the first place.

I still didn't know what the fight was about, if it was really that bad of a fight that they had to call us over, let alone who had gotten into it, just no clue at all. But since the drive over here I kept feeling that this might have to do with Max, since last time she was the one that had gotten arrested for the same thing.

The receptionist opens the door from the office for us with a smile and we enter. I take a look at everyone in the room before saying anything, the principal was in his chair, a tall big body female was sitting in front of his desk, her hand holding a zip lock bag filled with ice placing it on her blood stained face. Three other girls were sitting beside her comforting her, wearing the same red faces as the other one, just not as bad.

At the very far end of the office were two other females and three male students standing in front of a chair with someone sitting in it, and that's when my eyes spot not other than Max Black. God Dammit.

She looks up and sees me, I sigh shaking my head. I'm disappointed knowing how much trouble she gets into. But then again I don't know her at all, does she like getting into these kinds of mess? Perhaps she's in a gang? Or maybe she fights for self defense? I don't know, but whenever it has to do with her, I feel myself wanting to know and not judge, something I admit I do often, to hear her side of the story.

I look at the middle aged man "you called about an incident regarding a fight?" I speak up, everyone's eyes are on me and Liam at this point

The man stands up walking closer to me, "yes, I'm the vice principal, Mr. Wallis, I was the one who called actually." He puts his hands in his pockets, jingling loose change while he continues on "Well I have six students here that literally started a brawl in the hallways this last period. I was informed a bit after everything that was going on in my halls and when I went to go separate them, all I saw was blood all over the floors and on their clothes. The janitor and the friends of one of the students that was involved in the dispute where the ones that were able to break them up before more damage was done" he states taking one hand out of his trousers to fix his bottle cap like glasses "we had to call it in, a new policy we have from the school district. There has been just so many terrible and even fatal events in a lot of schools these past years, that it's just out of our hands to handle" he breaths out heavily

I nod in agreement as does Liam, him jotting down everything that Mr. Wallis was saying

"Ok, Mr. Wallis, my partner and I will need to also get a statement from the students too, we do need consent from you of course to do so" I tell him

"Yes, of course"

"One more thing" I add "will anybody be pressing charges?"

"No, I already spoke to the girls, they will be attending detention and do some volunteer work around the school as their punishment"

I inwardly breath a sigh of relief. These girls looked pretty beat up, and if Max had anything to do with it, she would have gone back to getting arrested and send away. Which I'm one hundred percent sure she is involved since the little group of what I can only imagine are her friends have her sitting down trying to make a human fence so I'm guessing she doesn't finish what they had started.

"Very well, we'll just write down their statements, make a report, and we'll fax you a copy so you can send it in to the ISD."

He agrees and goes back to his chair. I turn to Liam "Penn, I want you to go to these four girls and get their statements, I'll get the other ones"

"Yes, sir"

I leave Liam with the other bloodied girls and walk to where Max was sitting with the other students in front of her looking like her bodyguards.

I cross my arms as I approach them, and focus my attention on a calm Max, she tilts her head up, her arms still crossed like mine, "Care to explain me your side of the story Max" I raise an eyebrow, only to have her narrow hers at me.

Her friends stare at me, confused as to how I know her name, one of the boys bent down on one knee to get close to her, too close, "Maxy, how do you know a cop?" He asks her, his left arm hanging behind her shoulders. If I didn't know any better, I'd say that he's a little bit to comfortable with my Max, and I dont like it at all.

Max turns to the kid "he's Jasmine's brother"

Wrong, I'm her fucking man.

But of course I couldn't say that, especially at her school. I'm clearly not thinking straight. She most likely didn't admit to whats going on between us, if there even is anything going on, because she also knows that this should be kept a secrete. I could only wish that's the case.

Max finally stands up from the chair she was sitting in and straightens up cracking her neck, tilting it to the side harshly. "I don't feel like talking, so I'm gonna make this quick" she looks up at me with her blue-gray eyes dull and without emotion

I sigh "fine, I'll take whatever I can get" I take out the note pad and pen from the pocket of my shirt, and wait for her to begin. She licks her dried lips before starting, when I notice a small bruise forming on her cheekbone, some scratches on her neck and arms are more visible now that she's standing in front of me. "I saw the big, tall one and the one with the red hair ganging up on my girl Terra" she points to the girl behind her with black boy trousers and a rock band tee shirt that was either fashionably torn or was ripped becasus of the fight. She too was sporting some nice brusies on her face, though they were much more darker. "Obviously I go to separate them from her, then the big one jumps on me, literally, so I grab her by her head and drop her to the floor"

I'm taken a back from what she said, I mean Max is small compared to the other girl. She's twice as big as Max, and beats her from height by a good six inches. Plus how calm Max is being about this whole situation amazes me. "Then the red head and the other two, try to help the big one out but me and Terra knock those two out, but then the big one decides to get Terra from behind and punches her in the head, hard, so I punch the red head in the stomach and grab the big bitch punching her straight in the nose, she stumbles down, and I kick her face until she passes out, unfortunately the janitor and these three idiots" she points to the three boys, one of them waves, and another guy swats his hand back down shaking his head "grab us before the real fun began" she finishes "that was more talking that I was planning on doing" she sighs scratching her head

My eyes stayed stitched into a frown during the whole time Max was speaking. This was it, this was the actual Max that I didn't know.

Is it weird that this side of her arouses me even more? To know how strong, and fearless she is, but yet so protective with the people she cares for. Kind of like when she protected Minnie with that little prick, that I had made sure got a few scares, thanks to some very influential people. But thats a story for another time.

I clear my throat, I hadn't notice I was still staring at Max this whole time I was thinking until she smirks and looks down to tie her shoes. "ok, so why did the fight begin in the first place?" I ask the girl named Terra, since she was the one that was fighting with the two other girls in the beginning

"They called me a freak, and a dyke" she answers

I nod "who started the phsycial actions first? As in who threw the first punch?"

Terra rolls her eyes, at the girls behind me, I turn around and see Liam escorting the four girls out "Stacey, the big one, then me, then the others decided to tag in when they saw Max marching towards us." Terra smirks evilly before continuing "they were scared shit when Max was storming to our direction, they already knew they were dead since they knew Max wasn't gonna stay back watching"

I turn to see Max, and she shakes her head at her friend's comment, a smile appearing on her gorgeous face.

"Well, I think that's all I have to know, lucky for you girls, there won't be any legal actions to be taken care of. Just try not to get into these kinds of situations" I turn my face to see Max already staring at me

"I can't promise you that, Officer Wess" she states, her eyes rake me up and I feel the need to grab her by her waist and kiss her hard from how much I miss her lips on mine.

I shake my head, this girl. "Just try to Miss Black. I don't think you'll like me taking you into the back of my car if you keep it up, would you?" I taunt, my gaze towards her grows heated, and I can care less if the kids next to us are smart enough to understand the meaning of my question.

She smirks "That doesn't sound half bad, Damien"

Fuck.

I clear my throat for the fucking fifth time I've been here. "We're all done here, I'm sure you all can go back to class, your principal will give you both the details for your punishment" I try to calm down as I look at Max and her friend. They both nod and I finally get to take a good look at them all.

When I watch them leaving, I notice one of the boys, the one that bent down earlier hug Max from the back, and I become uneasy especially since he kept staring at me with curiosity. He whispers something in her ear and kisses her hair, and that's when I all but twich in rage

โ˜(Reminder that's mason)๐Ÿ‘†

"Max I need a word with you, alone" I call out to her, my voice was hard and loud and she noticed too how pissed I was because her eyes soften at the sight of me

She walks up to me and I look behind her to see the rest of her little
