Chapter 42- Not yet.

When we left the room just a few minutes later, we were greeted by out guests. Kyle's parents were the first to greet us.

Kyle's mum took my into her arms strongly and I had no option but to go along with it.

"Darling daughter in law," she gushed. "I can't think you enough for sorting out my grumpy, playboy son, God the girls he used to bring home before we moved!" She let out as if she was still exasperated.

"Mom," Kyle groaned as he pulled me away. "Shut up," I didn't know what to say, I was redeemed speechless.

"Don't listen to her, Kyle was tame even then," Kyle's father gave his wife a glare before she sheepishly smiled in reply. They kissed us goodbye, demanding we go for dinner sometime before going off to talk to somebody else.

Just as I was about to walk over to my father, my eyes spotted the back of Bill's head.

"Bill and Mary are here?" I whispered into Kyle's ear. He bent down to listen.

"Bill is, Mary is at home recovering," I was surprised and astonished. I made my way over to him without another word uttered.

I was surprised to see him here, he should be at home looking after his wife.

"Bill?" Bill turned around and took me into his arms as soon as he heard me. I wrapped my arms around him in reaction.

"Congratulations, darling girl," Bill kissed me on the cheek, his eyes full of adoration. "I can't thank you enough, Mary is recovering well at home and I can already see an improvement, what you and Kyle have done for me is more than I could have ever asked for in my whole life,"

"It was my pleasure to help, I promise you I'm so glad I helped," I smiled his way.

"You and Kyle are amazing people and I see amazing things for your future," Bill stated.

"Thanks so much," I hugged him again as thankyou.

"You landed a great man, I swear he is the most happiest, charming, driven man I know," I looked over at Kyle who was slowly going around his family and I looked at him in awe. He was an amazing person, I just couldn't believe how much I thought of him now.

I used to think of him as a player, a dick and just one full on fool, now he was everything to me. My perception had changed so much, and when he told me I didn't know him, that I didn't understand him, he was right. I didn't. Now I do, and I can truly see him for the man he is and the boy he was.

"He is," I breathed.

"Don't ever let go of a man like that, Cali, I'm telling you he loves you more than anything," I nodded my head distractedly as I continued to watch him.

"I hope he does,"

"He does or he wouldn't have married you," Bill replied. "And he looks at you the way I used to look at Mary," I turned to him, his blue eyes twinkling at the memory. He looked dashing in a dark suit and his grey hair combed over.

"Not anymore?"

"Oh I do, she just doesn't notice as much anymore," it was as if his eyes had darkened in sadness as he looked down to the floor. I laid my hand over his shoulder.

"She does, a woman always knows," I tried to lighten the mood. Bill chuckled.

"I suppose you're right," Bill kissed my cheek again and pulled me into his arms. "You're my little angel, if you ever need me when times get tough, you come to me," I nodded my head as Bill gave me a reassuring smile. I knew he was referring to my father.

"Thanks so much," I let out sincerely. I truly did mean it.

Suddenly I felt a pair of arms wrap around my waist.

"I hope you don't mind, Bill, but I just have to steal my wife away," Kyle's husky voice came from behind me as he tucked me under his arm. Bill smiled widely.

"Of course I don't mind, she's all yours,"

"I know," and I could feel the smile in his voice.

I then waved Bill goodbye and followed Kyle.

"Where are we going?" I asked as he continued to almost pull me along as I stayed tucked under his arm.

"To see pops," he stated. I smiled before we stopped. "Pops!" Kyle greeted my father with open arms. I could hear his muffled chuckle.

"Dad," I smiled sweetly his way when Kyle finally let go. My father pulled me into his arms and I hugged him back with force.

"Hey, my girl," he croaked, and I knew he was stopping himself from crying again. "Your old man is proud of you,"

"Thanks, dad," I breathed as we finally pulled apart.

"How you keeping up, pops?" Kyle asked as he stood beside me.

"The nurse keeps nagging at me to go back to my bed, but I just wanted to see you first,"

"I would go back, dad, the nurse knows best," I scolded, my dad rolled his eyes and I smiled inwardly at his behaviour.

"Alright, dearest daughter," he played. Atleast he hadn't lost his sense of humour. "Don't ever let any harm come to my daughter, got it, punk?"

"Got it," Kyle winked his way but I knew he took it seriously. As if Kyle would let any harm get to me.

"I mean it,"

"I know," but I could hear the smile through his voice. My father pulled me back into his arms.

"I can't believe my youngest daughter has already gotten herself married, I still can't get the image of you in pigtails and a school summer dress out of my mind, you're still a baby to me, and I still love you the same as I did when you were born,"

"Dad," I groaned in embarrassment at his pigtail statement, but my heart seized at his other words.

"I'm serious, I've had my years with you, darling girl, I'm just glad you picked Kyle to see the rest of them," my father continued to state. Kyle entwined his hand through kind as a sign of agreement.

"I'm glad too," I breathed. my father turned to Kyle.

"Watch her grow through the same eyes as mine, love her until her death, I beg you of that," I heard the pleading sound through my dad's voice, and the crack at the end. My eyes felt glassy all of a sudden.

"I promise you," Kyle replied. "I promise you with my life,"

"I owe you one," my fathers sense of humour came back and I thanked god it did, I didn't want to cry again. Kyle laughed at his statement.

"Damn right you do, maybe you can cook us dinner,"

"Jog on buddy, I'll be a free spirit," Kyle laughed again, I didn't know how he could laugh over death, but he didn't mean it in the harsh way, he just enjoyed my father's sense of humour and tried to make the atmosphere between us lighter again. "I love you, Cali,"

"I love you too, daddy," he kissed my cheek before the nurse came back to fetch him.

"Come on, Mr Johnson, back to bed," the nurse came up and caught hold of his elbow in a caring gesture. She had kind twinkling eyes and it made me feel better about letting him go.

"Alright, nurse," he rolled his eyes our way before getting carted away. I smiled after him.

"I'm happy he still has his sense of humour," I stated truthfully. I could sense Kyle nodding.

"Me too," Kyle replied. "Hey, I didn't plan an after wedding party because I thought you'd want to go and sit with your dad after the wedding, but if you wanted one I'm sure I could master something,"

"I'm sure you could," I turned in his arms and kissed his cheek. "But I'd rather spend some of my time just you and I and then I'll go and see my father a little later, give him chance to rest," Kyle wrapped his arms around me and brought his face down to my level.

"Of course, whatever you want," he replied before pecking my lips.

"Get a room!" I heard Tammy's voice come from beside us a couple of yards away. Kyle turned around and flipped her the bird before putting his lips back against mine. The miniature crowd cat called around us and I'm sure my cheeks heated up in embarrassment.

When Kyle pulled away I was sure I was red. Kyle smiled widely to the guests and I giggled nervously beside him.

"Bless them," Kyle whispered in my ear. I looked to him and he smiled innocently down at me. "Do you want to leave and go somewhere?"

"And leave our family and friends?" I asked. Kyle nodded as his eyes twinkled.

"It's our wedding we can do as we please," Kyle stated after. I nodded my head.

"Okay then," he grabbed hold of my hand and led me to the stairs. I didn't think anybody knew we had gone anyway.

We flew down the stairs until we were at bottom floor before Kyle almost ran us out of the building and to his car.

He opened my door like a gentleman and then moved to his side and got in.

"Any need to run?" I asked with humour.

"Of course," was his only reply. He got the car to run, and after that he swivelled onto the road. He turned up the radio until Maroon 5 blasted through the speakers.

"I feel like the runaway bride, running away from my own wedding,"

"You're not the run away bride you're the I got dragged away by my husband, bride, and plus we've broken all the rules already we might aswell break some more," Kyle looked to me cheekily before looking back towards the road.

He was right, we had broken most of the marital rules anyway, it made no difference to break anymore.

Finally, Kyle pulled up onto the drive.

"You bought me home?" I asked. Kyle shrugged before getting out of the car and opening my door. Before I could move any further, he lifted me up into his arms until he was holding me bridal style.

He shut the door with his foot and locked the car casually before going to the front door, opening it and doing the same.

"Welcome home, wife,"

"Welcome home to you too, husband," he kissed my forehead and sat me on top of the kitchen island.

"So how come you brought me home?" I asked as Kyle tucked himself inbetween my legs. My less dangled down the edge of the counter.

"I just wanted to be alone with you," Kyle stated. He cupped my cheek in his two hands. "Have I told you how fucking fantastic you look in this dress?"

"Um-"

"Well you do, you look so, so, so beautiful. I knew you would,"

"You look great too," I replied shyly under his scrutinizing stare. He did seriously look too sexy in that suit. I grabbed hold of his tie and undone it.

Before I could drop it, he took hold of it and put it around my shoulders. He grabbed the ends and pulled so my face moved forward to his. His lips took hold of mine until we were in a deep, passionate and hot kiss.

When we pulled away, we were both panting against each other's lips.

Kyle pulled his body away and made his way to the fridge.

"What are you doing?" I breathed, sill breathless from the kiss. Kyle got a two glasses out from the cupboard and I watched in awe as he swiftly moved around the room.

He pulled out a bottle of champagne and I looked to him in confusion.

"Where did you get that?" I asked. He still hadn't answered me.

"Sorry just got to get my breath back, love, and my control,"

"Why are you controlling yourself?" I replied.

"I'm waiting," was his only reply as he opened the bottle and poured us both a drink. He picked the glass up and gave it to me. He resettled himself between my legs.

"Here's to the future," we clinked glasses. "I love you,"

"I love you," I replied before taking a drink. The liquid went down my throat smoothly, it was cool, crisp and sweet. "This is amazing," I looked to him.

"I know," he replied as he took another sip. "I also wanted to discuss a matter with you,"

"Oh?" I asked as I put the glass back on the counter. I gave him my full undivided attention.

"My parents offered to pay for us to go on holiday, basically our honeymoon whenever we please,"

"I'd love to," I replied truthfully. "Maybe just a little while after everything blows over," I refered to my father. I didn't want to go on a holiday where I always grieved. I wanted to enjoy our honeymoon.

"Of course, baby, whenever you want, as long as you do want to, I mean we have the rest of our lives together," he shrugged but his eyes twinkled with happiness at the thought.

"You like that don't you?" I asked as I smiled his way. He cocked his head to the side and smirked.

"Like what?"

"Saying we have the rest of our lives together," I stated. He nodded his head in reply.

"Of course I do, any sane man would, any man who had you would,"

"Shut up, I think any woman would love to be in my shoes,"

"But they don't love me like you do,"

"No, I love you more than they would," I replied almost possessively.

"I love it," Kyle breathed.

"Love what?"

"Your possessive side," Kyle replied as he continued to smirk.

He then suddenly pulled me off the counter and picked me up again. He then continued to carry me to the bedroom.

When we were inside he gently slid me down until my feet were touching the floor.

Before I could even stable myself, be brought my face close and his lips crashed to mine again. It seemed as if he couldn't leave my lips alone to bare the open air. I wasn't complaining.

His tongue created fire almost everywhere throughout my body. His hands gently went along the side of my body. I grabbed a handful of his hair and he groaned against my mouth.

In a split second he pulled away and turned me around almost roughly. He took hold of my zip and kissed the base of my open neck.

"Fucking gorgeous you are," he breathed. I shivered in reply.

Just as he was about to lower the zip further, my phone began ringing. I grabbed hold of it from inside of my dress.

"Hello?" I breathed down the phone, breathless from Kyle and his activities.

"He's gone," Tammy sniffed down the phone. The world span beneath me and I dropped the phone to the floor.

"Cali?" Kyle said as his worried tone made his way to my ear. He picked up the phone and my life almost crashed before me.

Not now, daddy, not now, you can't go now!

My knees buckled and I fell to the floor. It hurt so much already.

"Shit, fuck," Kyle repeated over and over again. He got off the phone and sat down beside me. He broke down just as I had. His lip trembled and his eyes went glassy with tears.

"Don't cry," he said as they fell. He roughly took me into his chest as I sobbed and sobbed. I could feel his body heaving and shaking too. "Shit, please don't cry, I can't stand it," his croaked and breaking voice came out. He held me hard against his chest and I continued to shake in his arms.

No, no, no. Not yet, dad, it isn't your time to go. It isn't your time!

But I had a feeling he knew he was going to go tonight, I think he knew his time was up.

Oh, dad. I love you.
