"I'm sorry, baby."

Jimin stared at his mom, one hand still on the doorknob, mouth open. Tears filled his eyes.

"You're leaving?" He croaked.

She patted his shoulder awkwardly, looking down. "You'll be better off without me. You deserve someone who doesn't half-a** their relationships."

"Mom--"

"Trust me on this one, sweetie," his mother said, cupping his face in one hand. "It's for the best. Be careful who gets close to you, yeah? You might end up like me."

"Mom, please--"

"I'm not abandoning you," she said soothingly. "I'll just live somewhere else for a while. I'll keep money in your bank account. You won't have to leave school. You'll be safe here."

Jimin shook his head. This wasn't what he wanted. He'd tried so hard to be a good son. Why was she leaving him? What had he done?

"Don't leave me," he said.

"Park Jimin." His mother placed her hands on his shoulders, shaking him. "Get this through your head. I've been leaving you since the day you were born. I never wanted you, and you don't deserve to live with someone like that. This is for your own good, just like everything I've warned you about your mate. Those are my two rules: don't talk to him, and don't talk to me. You'll be happier that way."

Jimin just stared at her, wide-eyed. She smiled sadly, leaning in to kiss him on the forehead.

"I wish you'd been an alpha," she said. "But we all have our challenges."

Jimin took a deep breath, unsure what he was going to say. He only knew he had to stop her, he had to convince her to stay with him, to abandon this 'other place' and stay. But before he could, she'd stepped back, running a hand through her hair.

"Don't tell anyone what you are," she said. "Goodbye."

Jimin woke with tears trailing down his cheeks and a dull pain throbbing at the base of his neck. He sat up, slowly, stretching, and glanced at the clock. Four a.m. Jimin scrubbed his face with his sleeves, then took a deep breath, slipping out of bed and walking into the bathroom.

The harsh white light nearly blinded him when he flicked it on, but he didn't move to turn it back off, leaning on the counter and staring at his reflection in the mirror instead.

It had been a long time since he dreamt of his mother.

He sighed, biting his lip and letting it slowly pull out from under his teeth. It was times like this that he wished he hadn't pushed all his friends away. It would be nice to have someone to talk to, someone to whine to.

...except they would probably tell him to get over it.

Another sigh. Jimin ruffled his hair, staring at his reflection, and leaned in until his forehead touched the mirror, then slowly pulled back, sinking to his knees on the cold tile. The silence of the room grated on his nerves, and he thought for a moment that if someone else was just there, breathing with him, that would be okay.

But he was alone.

"You're not alone, min."

"You're up?" Jimin said softly, playing with his fingers and staring at his feet. "I'm sorry."

"There's nothing to be sorry for," Yoongi said, his voice just as soft in Jimin's mind. "Are you alright?"

"I guess not," Jimin said, and before he knew it, his voice had broken. "I just... I wanted... I don't know...!"

"Hey, it's alright. You don't have to tell me." Yoongi fell silent for a moment. Then he said, "I wish I were with you. We could cuddle. Do you like that?"

"I used to," Jimin sniffed, quickly brushing at his eyes and swallowing his tears. "I don't know anymore."

"I'll see you in a couple of hours, anyway, I guess," Yoongi sighed. "But I'll be up. Let me know if you need anything, alright?"

"Okay."

Jimin waited for a few minutes, then sighed, getting up and walking back to his bed.
