The Bug

I spent the next few days on my computer. I moved around the tower, changing between my room, the couch, the kitchen table, and even occasionally the roof. I couldn't stay in one place for too long.

In only two days I had found a map of the building, security footage, a list of weapons and a list of those in charge for the building at the coordinates we had found a few days ago.

By analyzing the security footage I determined how long each guard stayed where, when they switched out, and what kind of weapons they had.

Now i sat on the roof at around noon, allowing the cool breeze to whip my hair around. My only issue now was figuring out how to get inside. Unlike any other HYDRA base the building was above ground nor did it had a secret shed doorway.

The underground building showed to be about 10 miles away from a small town. I switched over to security footage from the town. I clicked through the traffic cams trying to find any familiar faces. It takes awhile but eventually I recognize a man. He was a part of the 3:00 guard. I followed him as he walks across the street and into a small bookstore.

I tilt my head and watch the time go by on the tape at a time lapse speed. The man doesn't exit the building until later that night. I grin.

There must have been some secret password to be let in underground or something like that. All I had to do was figure out what it was. Lucky for me I had the perfect idea.

I close my laptop and hop up from the ground where I had been sitting. I gleefully walk back into the tower and find Steve.

"Ok so I think i've got everything figured out except for the password to get in." I exclaim leaning against the kitchen counter.

Steve turns around from the sink and smiles. "What password?"

"Ok so it's actually pretty crazy. The whole building is underground. It's about 10 miles out from a small town. In this small town there's a bookstore where all the HYDRA people disappear into for hours or even days at a time. I'm guessing there's a password, but I don't know what it is." I sigh.

He pulls a towel off of his shoulder and tosses it onto the counter. "Ok so then maybe we find some way to place a bug on one or two of the guys and try and figure it out that way? You think you'd be able to recognize them?" He asks leaning in towards me.

"Yea i'm pretty sure I could. I've been watching these guys for days." I laugh.

"Ok so you think tomorrow we'll be good to go and place the bugs?" He asks pushing off the counter.

I grin. "I think so, just check with everyone else."

He places a kiss of my forehead and walks out of the room to find Tony. I open up my computer again. There was a small timer in the bottom left corner. It was almost to zero, probably only had two days left until the device went out. We had to act quick.

Later that day Steve confirms with everyone that tomorrow would be the day we act with the bugs. I would stay in the back of a van with Steve while Sam 'bumped' into the HYDRA guys and placed the bugs. He was the least known one of the group to HYDRA. I would watch from security footage to identify the men and watch Sam's back. Steve was going to be there for backup.

I'm talking with Sam later that night and we're kind of arguing.

"I already said no, it's not a toy." Sam says.

"Don't be lame Wilson cmon." I protest.

He turns his head and faces me with a confused look on his face. "I'm not lame!" Hs argues.

I just shrug. "Prove it." I smirk.

He rolls his eyes and stands up. He starts walking to the elevator and I internally celebrate. I quickly run after him and try to hide my excitement as we ride the elevator to the roof.

Sam puts on his gear and suits up. I smile. The sun was setting so it was starting to get dark. The timing was perfect. The wings on Sam's suit extends and he motions to the ground in front of him.

I giddily run up to him and stand tall.

"You ready?" He asks unsurely.

I laugh. "Just don't drop me."

Seconds later Sam pushes off the ground as I cling to his side. He soars over the city and I look at the gorgeous sunset. It really was beautiful.

A few minutes later I hear a click. I look up and Sam and he's looking at me. I raise an eyebrow. His arm disappears from my waist and I start falling.

I scream as I flail through the air. I don't even reach the tops of the building before i'm scooped back up. Sam quickly brings us back to the tower. He lands and I fall to my knees. I was incredibly dizzy.

"Screw you Sam." I pant.

He just laughs. "Told ya I wasn't lame." He says as he walks back inside.

I wobbly stand back up and try to get inside. I can see my reflection in the elevator as it goes down. My hair was an absolute mess. The elevator dings and I step off. Everyone else was sitting around the kitchen getting food.

"The hell happened to you?" Bucky asks, looking up from his plate.

I narrow my eyes at Sam. "Oh nothing." I chuckle.

I go to my room and fix my hair before coming back out and eating.

I spend the rest of the night with Steve and Sam going over strategies.

The next morning we leave before anyone else is awake. We're on the jet for a few hours before finally arriving.

When we land Steve goes into town and finds a van to use while Sam and I wait. Half an hour goes by before a clunky white van pulls up. Steve comes out from the drivers side door and opens the trunk. I start loading all the equipment into the trunk.

"We've gotta hurry up, the first guy usually gets there in about 20 minutes." I shout out.

We finish loading up our stuff and while Steve drives into town I load Sam up with gear. I place a pin of his jacket.

"Ok this has a camera, don't cover it or else I won't be able to help." I explain before passing him tiny little button like things. "These are the bugs. They should stick to the guy so just pat his shoulder or something and it should stay. Remember, don't stay for long ok?" I ask after he pockets the bugs.

He nods. "Got it." He says and breathes out.

I feel the van come to a stop and Steve climbs into the back. "We're in position." Hs says nodding at Sam.

Sam slides open the door and hops out. He closes it again and starts walking down the street near the book store.

I quickly open my computer and pull up the feed. I watch as the he walks down the street. I pull up a program next to the camera feed and watch as the program tries to match faces. Suddenly it lights up. I press the device in my ear. "Ok Sam first target is coming up. Man in his twenties or thirties, black pants and dark green shirt." I say.

"You got it" He says through comms.

I watch the camera as his pace speeds up into a jog. The shoulder opposite of the pin bumps into the man. Sam's hand comes out from the pocket and pats the mans shoulder.

"Sorry man." Sam says as nicely as possible.

The man just mumbles something and Sam continues on.

I click a few more things and I activate the first bug. I mute Sam's feed and listen into the bug. I watch through the security footage as the man walks into the bookstore.

"How can I help you today?" An older voice croaks.

"I'm looking for a book on enlightenment." A gruff voice responds.

I hear footsteps and the sound of something heavy opening. It must have been a door because I heard something close after that. Heavy footsteps echoed in the sound. I start recording the audio but switch back to Sam.

"First bug in place and activated! Ok we've probably got like 10 minutes before the next guy so sit down or something." I suggest.

I watch Sam find a bench and sit down through the feed. He pulls out his phone and starts playing candy crush. I roll my eyes. My eyes stay glued to the street footage until the program lights up again.

"Aha! Sam here comes our last guy. Opposite side of the street. Black shirt and... khakis?" I say.

Sam's feed stands up and quickly crosses the street.

"Excuse me sir! You look like you have money to spare. Can you spare a 5?" Sam asks quickly as he taps the mans shoulder to get his attention.

The man stops and turns to Sam.

Sam takes a step back and the man just pushes him. He looks down at Sam disgusted.

Knowing Sam he was thinking of some smart ass comment. "Not the time Sam. Just get back here." I hiss through comms.

Sam slowly stands up and starts walking back to us.

I pull up the other audio feed and listen in. The same conversation is had and I smile we got em.

Sam reaches the van and we go back to the jet and take off back home.
