I thought of this while watching an episode of Black Butler...

FLASHBACK

"Come on, Dudette! There's something I need to show you!"

"I'm coming, Alfred. Just give me a chance!" I shouted back, running up the hill to where he was standing.

"Hurry up or you'll miss it, Dudette!"

I chuckled and finished running up the hill, only to be surprised, "Wow, this is amazing!"

"I know right, Dudette? I knew you liked sunsets so I thought I'd bring to you to see one!"

"You're the best, Alfred!" I responded hugging him, a massive smile on my face.

FLASHBACK 2

Smoke and flames. That's all I saw. I kept running, though, getting out of the house was my main priority. Once I was out, I ran and ran to the meeting point where my parents told me to run if I ever got in trouble or if something happened. I collapsed down by the tree and caught my breath. Running takes a lot of energy.

FLASHBACK 3

I looked up at the ruins of my family's house. Both my parents had died that fire. I had waited and waited at that tree but they never turned up. I felt tears pricking my eyes before I felt a tap on my shoulder, "Lady, (Y/n)?" I looked up to see my personal maid before replying, "Yes?"

"I'm sorry about your parents, young mistress."

"You have nothing to be sorry for, Alana. None of this was your fault," I replied, sighing.

"Come on, lady (Y/n). We must be going now."

I nodded before following her away from the now burnt estate.

END OF FLASHBACKS

After that day, I never smiled again. No one could ever make me smile. Not even my best friend, Alfred, could make me smile anymore. Whenever I thought of the memories we spent together as children, instead of them bringing a smile to my face, I just thought of how those times will never be the same again, which just made me cry more if I wasn't already. Even though I was only 16, I had become as mature as a 30-year-old. With both my parents dead and me being an only child, I had to take over the family business. I was knocked from my train of thought by a knock on the door to my bedroom. I sighed, "Come in."

"Lady (Y/n), ma'am. You have a visitor."

"Who is it, Alana?" I asked looking up at her. However, before she could reply she had been knocked into, "Dudette! I missed you!" I took a deep breath before being embraced in an extremely tight hug, "It's so good to see you!"

"Alfred," I replied with a straight face, "Put me down!" He did so and I straightened myself out before continuing, "What brings you here?"

"Happy birthday, Dudette!" he shouted, pulling a party hat and party popper out from nowhere.

I didn't reply and kept a bored look on my face, "Alfred, please."

"Huh? Dudette?! What is it?! It's your birthday, you should be happy!"

I sighed.

"Dudette?" Alfred asked, a concerned look now appearing on his face. I just turned away from him, trying to conceal my tears.

"(Y/n)?" I looked back at him when he said my name, only to be embraced in a massive hug, "(Y/n)! What happened? Whatever happened, tell me. I'm your friend."

"Alfie, please. Alana?"

"Y-yes, Lady (Y/n)?"

"Explain the incident to Alfred, please. That's an order. And when you're done, I'll be in my study," I responded before walking off towards my study.

"Of course, m'lady."

I nodded to her and continued walking to my study.

"-Dudette! You didn't have to go through that alone! That's what friends are for! You could have talked to me about it!"

"Alfie, please!" I shouted. I was really fed up with him now, "What is the bloody world is got into you!?"

"I am never leaving your side, Dudette!" he replied giving me another bone-crushing hug, "You know why? Because I love you, Dudette!" I felt my face heat up and I smiled before it turned into a frown. Alfred, upon noticing this, let me go, "(Y/n)?"

I looked up at him, tears in my eyes.

"Dudette?! What's wrong?! Why are you crying?!"

"Alfie, these are happy tears," I replied, a smile appearing on my face. A real genuine smile, "I love you too!" I jumped on him and kissed him, "And I always will! Best birthday ever."
