"Indiana Wilson?" My teacher calls out as she looks up from her laptop. "Present ma'am," I say raising my hand up. She nods before going to the other student. "Alright class, I'm done with your attendance. Now going to today's lesson," She says as she walks towards the door before locking it.

It's a rule in our class: after attendance, the door is locked so that no latecomer can come in.

The teacher instructs us to open our textbooks to page 147, just as a rapid banging is heard from the door. Ms Brown (the teacher) sighs, before opening the door. "Zac, Austin. How wonderful for you to join us now. But unfortunately, you're late, and attendance has already been taken. I would kindly ask you to stand outside." She says with a tight-lipped smile.

Austin sighs and looks at Zac with a frustrated look before looking back at Ms Brown. "I apologize. It won't happen again." Austin mumbles. "Apology accepted." She says and starts closing the door, only for Zac's foot to stop it.

"Hey, come on. Live a little Ms Brown. Yeah, we are late. But we are high school kids, what do you expect from us? To be on time?" He raises his eyebrow. Ms Brown closes her eyes already annoyed with him; he does this almost every day. "Actually Zac, that's exactly what, I, as a teacher, expect from, you, as a student." She says, and Zac scoffs.

"Well, forgive us for having a little fun." Zac mumbles. "You know what? Just get in. I have a class to teach and would very much appreciate it if you don't delay it any further." She says moving aside and letting both of them walk in.

"Good choice," Zac smirks and enters the class Austin following behind him. The moment both the boys are in front of the classroom and are looking for a seat, all the girls and even some boys start fixing up their hair and outfits; the girls opening a few top bottoms of their shirt or pulling it a bit down to expose a bit of cleavage, while the guys straighten their t-shirts.

"Hmm... Now, where shall we sit." Zac wonders out loud. "Just shut up," Austin mumbles when he sees the teacher glare at them and he pulls Zac by the back of his shirt and drags him towards the back of the class. "Anyway... Where was I..." Ms Brown says before getting back to the lesson.

I hum as I put my books in my locker. "Indy! There you are bitch!" I hear my best friend, Paris yell. My head turns to the side and I look at her running towards me, pushing through the crowd. Her long blonde hair gets stuck in someone's backpack zipper and she lets out a hiss as she stumbles backwards. The guy who is wearing the backpack, blushes and mumbles a sorry as he helps her untangle her hair. He looks at her with hearty eyes, but of course, Paris being Paris stays obvious to the fact as she rushes towards me, without saying a word to the poor boy who for sure has had or just developed a crush on her.

"There you are. I didn't see you all morning and I thought you were dead or something." She says panting lightly.

Meet Paris, Paris Evans. My best friend since elementary school and my 'partner in crime' as she calls it. Paris is a person you wouldn't want to mess with. She is a person who is very straightforward and overdramatic from time to time. With her natural beauty; long blonde hair, blue eyes and gorgeous features, she has guys on her fingertips. But she is either oblivious or just not interested.

"Really?" I chuckle as I close my locker. "Yep." She says as she slings her arm around my shoulder, and looks down at me. Even she is taller than me at the height of 5'7". God, I feel like a gnome.

"So..." I wiggle my eyebrows at her. "Oh god, not this again!" She groans as she knows what I am going to say next. "In my defence, he was giving you heart eyes," I say as I bite my lip to control the laughs that want to escape my mouth. "Indy, I love you. I really do, but seriously stop." She groans and I giggle. "No guy here deserves me. Especially not these guys who go here, all of them are horny immature boys who think they are 'manly'. I deserve a man! A real man" She says with a grin. "I know." I smile and shake my head.

We make our way towards the table where Jay is waiting for us. The moment he spots Paris next walking next to me his eyes fill with mischief and a smirk forms on his face. "Oh, look Jayden is alive! Surprising because I remember killing him in my dream last night. I guess some dreams just never come true." She sighs as she pulls her chair out and sits down with a huff. "Glad to know you dream about me, sweetheart." He grins. "Oh, shut up." She grumbles as she glares at him, to which he raises both his hands up in mock surrender. "Just stating facts, because admit it or not, we both know you want me, sweetheart." He smirks as he folds both his arms on the table and leans towards her.

"Stop calling me sweetheart you dickhead." She says as she pushes his face away. "Why, sweetheart?" He smirks. "Indy, I swear to god hold me back. Hold me back before I kill this twin brother of yours!" She says as her glare furthers and she leans towards him with gritted teeth.

Jay and Paris don't get along.

Their relationship is quite bipolar if you ask me. Even though it seems like they can rip each other heads off any second, they're each others 'comfort buddies' as I like to call it.

In third grade, Paris's pet bunny died Jay hugged her and let her cry on his favourite shirt and made her smile when no one could.

In eighth grade, when Paris used to be bullied because she was going through her 'e-girl' phase, Jay stood up for her and even went as far as punching people who almost made her cry.

During our freshmen year of high school, when Paris became more of a tomboy and no one asked her to the school dance and made fun of her for having no date, Jay became her date and punched the people who made fun of her.

And after sophomore year when boys started showing interest in her and became pervs, who annoyed her and some even touched her without consent, Jay was there to kick and punch them; even though Paris can do it herself. Sometimes, when guys don't seem to get the message that Paris is not interested, Jay is there to help by becoming her 'boyfriend'.

"I would like to see you try, honey," Jay smirked as he looked at her, a strand of brown hair falling to his forehead. "Whatever," Paris mumbles as she pushes the strand away from his forehead before leaning back. "I'm going and getting lunch," Paris says as she gets up. "Mind getting lunch for me too?" Jay asks. "Sure. But you owe me." She says as she looks at him.

"Okay. Thank you, you're such a swe-"

"Jay, I swear, I will kill you. You're really testing me." She seethes as she looks at him.

Jay gulps at her expression before nodding and sinking in his chair. I look at both of them with an amused smile before getting up and walking with Paris to the lunch line. We both get our lunches before sitting back down at the table. She pushes Jay's lunch tray towards him and he mumbles a 'thank you'.

"Ooh who is that?" Jay says with a mouth full of food as he points his fork towards a redheaded girl who is walking in the cafeteria with her friends. "This again." Paris and I groan at the same time. "What? She seems to have nice boobs." He shrugs as he takes another bite of his lasagna. "JAY!" Paris and I exclaimed together. "Sorry." He mumbles.

"Seriously, you have to stop Jay. It's not healthy sleeping around. You could have STD's for all we know. And for heaven's sake chew with your mouth closed!" Paris shrugs in disgust.

"I have protected sex and I get checked every month. I'm clean. You interested?" He asks as he wiggles his eyebrows suggestively. "Jeez, no. All I am saying is... It's not healthy." She says as she looks at him with soft eyes.

"She has a point, Jay." I nod as I look at him. He shrugs, his fork moving around his plate as he refuses to look at us. "It's my life. I can do what I want." He mumbles before pushing his tray away, getting up and walking out the cafeteria.

Paris and I sigh as we look at each other. Ever since he left Jay started sleeping around, it was a way for him to heal, I guess. Jayden felt rejected and... hurt after... he left. All of us did. But we all healed differently; we still are healing. Jay started sleeping around because he got attention and felt wanted. Because it helped him forget how our father walked out on us. But it's been two years, and he hasn't stopped, and now Paris and I are worried.

"I tried talking to him about seeing a therapist the way I do. But he refused." I sigh. Paris sighs and shakes her head. We both eat in silence lost in our own thoughts.

♡♡♡

School was over and I was putting my books back in my locker. God, I can't wait to go home and just cuddle into my blankets as I read a good book. Just as I close my locker and am thinking about which book to read a voice stops me.

"Wait!" I furrow my eyebrows and turn around to face... Austin Reed? I look at him with wide eyes, shocked since Austin Reed isn't one to talk to anyone other than his best friend Zac. I look behind me to see if he was talking to me or probably someone behind me.

"Indiana, right?" He asks in a dry voice.

"Um... Yeah." I say my awkward yet fairly okay social skills coming into action.

He nods and shoves his hands in his pockets, his eyes moving around my face making me shift on both my feet uncomfortably. "I need to talk to you." He says after a minute, making me almost lose balance on my feet.

Talk to me? Austin Reed the guy who practically glares at you if you dare even look at him? Austin Reed the guy who has girls drooling over his Greek-God like features and body? Austin Reed, the star quarterback and the football captain? Austin Reed who instantly climbed up the social ladder when he moved here in between sophomore year? Austin Reed, the guy- Okay, I'll stop, but you get my point!

I think I need to get my ears checked because I for sure heard him wrong.

"I'm sorry, I think I heard you wrong," I say softly, scared to make him mad or angry, even though I have never really seen him be violent at all he just gives... mean vibes, I guess?

"I said I want to talk to you." He says again, clearly frustrated.

"Oh," I mumble. "Yeah 'oh'." He mimics me under his breath.

We both stare at each other, the awkwardness clear in the air. My eyes move around his gorgeous face; his sharp jawline, his nose that is slightly crooked as if broken before, his pretty light brown, almost hazel eyes, his dark perfect eyebrows, his dark brown, almost black messy hair and finally his slightly pink lips that are set in a thin line, I've never seen him this close before and even if I did think he was attractive before, seeing him now, this closely, is just another level of attractive.

I remove my eyes from him when I realize I am practically checking him out.

He clears his throat before staring down at his white sneakers. "I need you to tutor me." I hear him mumble, and I barely hear him. He sighs before lifting his eyes to look at me again and says a bit louder this time, "I need you to tutor me." "Tutor you?" I ask with furrowed eyebrows. "Yeah, in English and Math's." He mumbles. "Oh," I say again. And I almost bang my head on my locker for being so awkward.

"I talked to Ms Brown (English teacher) and Mr Will (Math's teacher), both of them told me you were one of the top students and could help me." He says. "Oh okay," I say. "Yeah. So, will you tutor me?" He asks as he looks at me. "Y-Yeah sure." I nod. "Cool." He nods and again looks down at his shoes.

We both stand in front of each other awkwardly. "Um... I should get going... Just message me whenever you're free to tutor." And before I could tell him I don't have his number he rushes down the hall. "Alright, I guess," I mumble as I turn around and walk towards the exit of school and towards the car parking.

I reach Paris's car where Jay and Paris are waiting for me. "Do any of you have Austin Reed's number?" I ask as I open the door to the backseat. "Am I hearing you right? Did you just ask for Austin Reed's number?" Paris asks while she gets into the driver's seat. "Yeah." I nod. "Why the hell do you need that dick's number?" Jay says as he enters the passenger seat, a scowl on his face. "Oh, I'm tutoring him." I shrug. "What?!" Jay and Paris exclaim together as they look back at me.

"You're what now?" Paris asks looking at me with raised eyebrows. "Tutoring him. In Math and English." I mumble. "What?!" They exclaim together. "Why are you guys making such a big deal out of it? It's just... tutoring." I mumble. "Because honey, this is Austin Reed we're talking about. The guy is a walking Greek-God that screams sex." Paris says as she looks at me. "Oh, shut up. He isn't that good looking." Jay says with a scoff. Paris looks at him with a raised eyebrow, "Fine whatever." Jay mumbles.

"I know... But I am just tutoring him." I say with a frown. "Indy! Girls will kill to be in your position. The guy glares at a girl who dares look at him, forget about touching him and you here have gotten the free pass to hang out with him!" Paris says as if stating the world's most common fact.

"I don't know why you are making such a big deal out of it. He is just a normal guy, who doesn't like socializing and who happens to look insanely good looking and popular." I shrug. Paris looks at me with a 'really' look. She shakes her head and turns back to face the steering wheel. "Sure, let's pretend that Austin Reed is just another guy." She mumbles.

I shake my head at her before turning to Jay, who is scrolling through his phone, clearly uninterested in the topic. "Hey, Jay, you're on the football team. So, you most probably have Austin's number. Can you give it to me?" I ask. "I do not have that dick's number. Nor will I ever have it. Just search for him on Insta and DM him or something." He shrugs, without even looking at me.

"Alright," I mumble as I take out my phone and start looking for him on Instagram.

♡♡♡

"I found him!" I exclaim, way too loud than I intended to sound. "Jeez, I think I just became deaf," Jay mumbles as he shakes his ear with one hand. I roll my eyes at him before looking at Paris who happens to park in front of our driveway. "Good for you Indy. Good for you. Now kindly get the fuck out of my car because I really want to go home and take a nap." She says as she looks at Jay and me with a sarcastic smile.

Jay rolls his eyes before picking up his bag and opening the door. "Bye, bitch!" He says before slamming the door shut, causing Paris to gasp, since apparently, her car was her 'baby'. She rolls down her window and pokes her head out.

"Go die in hell, you ungrateful dick!" She yells at him causing an old lady who was taking a stroll on the footpath to look at her with wide eyes.

Paris rolls her window back up and looks at me with a sweet smile. "Indy, would you like me to give you a special invite to get out of my car?" She says as she tilts her head and looks at me as if talking to a child.

I laugh and shake my head before picking up my bag and opening my door. "Bye!" I say before closing her door, lightly of course and she waves at me before driving off. I walk towards our front yard stopping when I notice a moving truck and a bunch of boxes in the front yard next to our house.

"What's all that?" I ask as I look at Jay who is at the front porch and looking around his bag, probably for the keys to the main door. "Probably the 'new' neighbour's mom was talking about this morning," Jay says as he continues looking through his bag, before sighing and flipping it upside down, making all his books and all the other stuff in his bag fall down on the floor.

"Aha. There it is!" He says with a smile, his dimples popping out as he bends down and picks up the keys, which has fallen in between all the pieces of crumpled paper and books. He puts the keys in the keyhole and pushes open the door before bending down and picking up all his books, papers and... Half-eaten doughnut back in his bag.

Wait, how does he have a doughnut in his bag? And how old is it?

I hear a bark come from the house and a smile makes its way onto my face as I rush up the front porch and into the house. "Ace!" I squeal once I see him in the living room hallway. He barks happily, his tail wagging as he rushes towards me and jumps onto me, making me fall back.

"Yeah Ace, just love Indy. Forget all about me. Forget all about the great great Jay," He sighs dramatically. Upon hearing Jay's voice, Ace turns towards him and barks happily. He jumps over me and jumps onto Jay, making him chuckle. "Who is a good boy? Who is a good boy? That's right you are. You are. Mhm." He coos in a baby voice as he rubs Ace's head.

When Ace climbs off of him and Jay walks into the kitchen, climbing over me. "Hey! You could've helped me up!" I complain as I stand up and dust my jeans before walking into the kitchen too. Jay has a pop tart hanging out his mouth as he rips off a pink sticky note from the fridge.

"Will be home late. Dinner Duty is on Indy. Please behave and dress up appropriately, especially you Jay. If any of you have forgotten I have called the neighbours over for dinner. Love, mom." Jayden reads out loud, his voice slightly muffled due to the pop tart he has hanging out.

He turns to me, "How in the world do I dress appropriately?" He asks, looking at me genuinely curious. My eyes travel down to his current attire; neon orange cargo pants with a similar coloured t-shirt. It is supposed to resemble a 'prisoners' outfit', or at least he says so, and honestly it kind of does.
