A month and a half has passed and slowly but surely things were getting back to normal. I have been seeing a therapist which have been helping a lot. I'm not having nightmares as much anymore and I don't think about what my stepfather used to do to me as much as I used to. I knew I had a long way to go, but therapy has helped a lot.

Christmas holiday came and I must say that it was the best Christmas I've ever had since my dad died. My friends and I planned a trip with Carson and his friends and we went sledding. It was my first time sledding and I had a lot of fun. Another day, Jasmine invited me and the guys over for a Christmas movie marathon. That day was also well spent. Any day with my best friends was a good day.

The day before Christmas, Carson's father company held a party at his house for employees and their families. Business partners and board members were also in attendance. Mr. Knight hadn't brought up what I spoke to him about at the hospital and he hadn't spoken to Carson about it either. I could see that he was still bothered by it, because he was still distant with Carson.

During the holidays, Marilyn and I also went shopping together again. We bought gifts for everyone and also gifts for the homeless shelter. We also baked cakes together, which we brought to the shelter. It felt good to give to charity and watched the children's face lit up as they received their presents.

It was now the day after Christmas and Carson and I were coming in from hanging out together. We had just reached the top of the stairs, when we heard a voice coming from Mr. Knight's study down the hall.

"Carson is that you?" Mr. Knight called from his office. Carson and I looked at each other with a surprised and confused look on our face. Carson walked over to the door of his father's study. I followed behind him. The door was opened, so when we were at the door, Mr. Knight looked up at us.

"Come in here for a second, Carson." He said, then looked at me. "You too, Kayla."

Okay, now I was curious as to why he wanted to talk to Carson and me as well. I entered the room, watching Mr. Knight curiously. He put down the papers that was in his hands on the desk and looked up.

Mr. Knight looked to Carson and I could see that he was struggling to say what he wanted to say. I've never seen him so lost for words before. He cleared his throat. "I've been doing a lot of thinking about you joining the company..."

I felt Carson tense up beside me. I could tell that he was frustrated that his father would bring up this topic again. I didn't want him to bring it up either. Carson and I had such a wonderful time today. I knew how Carson felt about his father and the whole business of him joining the company. I didn't want to sour the mood.

Mr. Knight looked at me and then back at Carson, finally finding the words to continue. "I've finally decided to let it go and let you do what you want to do."

I was surprised by his words. To be honest, I was wondering if I was even hearing right. I did spend a lot of time in the cold air today. Maybe I was going deaf. I looked at Carson and saw that he was as shocked as I am.

"What?" Carson asked after a short while.

Mr. Knight sighed and rubbed his hands over his face. "You don't have to join the company if you don't want to, but the offer will always stand." He said. "I admit, I was wrong. For you to join the company is something I want, not what you want. I wasn't being fair. I should allow you to do what you want to do."

I was stunned. Mr. Knight actually admitting that he was wrong was something I thought I'd never hear.

Carson smiled. A genuine smile that I haven't seen in a long time when it concerns his father. "Thanks Dad. It means a lot."

I let out a deep sigh of relief. I've been waiting for this day for so long. It took him long enough! Mr. Knight looked at me and continued. "Thanks to Kayla for allowing me to do some serious thinking." He smiled at me. "Thanks Kayla for opening my eyes. Even though I didn't want to admit it before, you were right. Carson should be allowed to pursue his own dreams and I need to support him."

I returned his smile and nodded my head. Carson looked at me with a confused expression and I gave him a nervous smile. I'll have to explain that later.

Mr. Knight looked towards Carson again. "I just want you to know that you have my blessing to go forth and be a mechanic."

"An engineer." Carson corrected.

"An engineer. Whatever." His father responded. Once again, I was shock by his words. "I will also pay your tuition for colleges. The best ones." He said, cracking a smile. Smiling was something he didn't do often and now he was doing it a lot.

Carson released a deep breath. "Thank you so much, Dad."

Mr. Knight gave a short nod. All this while, the grin never left my face. Carson and I left his father's study and went to his room.
