thanks a bunch for the cover Tristyn :)

Catherine

I opened my eyes when I heard loud music coming from the other room.

Groaning, I covered my face with a pillow and tried to go back to sleep. It's been three weeks and two days since Damon appeared on my kitchen. Kind of like a Pokémon, that guy.

And it's been like this ever since he discovered the apartment was sound proof. I would've just ignored his country music pounding my ears at seven thirty on a Sunday morning. But with him singing along with it? That's just too much for a girl to take.

Surrendering sleep, I got up just as he sang the chorus of a song I've heard over and over again. I dragged myself towards the bathroom and pounded a fist on the wall just to let him know he woke me up. I heard him laugh before continuing his mini concert.

My eyes were barely open when I took my toothbrush and began the ritual of attempting to make myself look more human. I splashed cold water on my face and got out of my room. Making myself some coffee, I sat down. After two more high notes, I heard a door open and I waited for the siren to enter the kitchen.

"Good morning, bonbon." he smiled and I just rolled my eyes.

"You know what Damon?" I moved aside when I saw him making his way towards the fridge. We've learned to adjust and try not to kill each other when it comes to living in the same space. Well at least I'm trying not to kill him. He took an apple from the fridge and sat at the stool in front of me.

"I long for the day that you-" he placed a finger on my lips to stop me from talking.

"will take me mind, body and soul." I slapped his hand away.

"Eew no. I long for the day that I would see you walk inside this kitchen wearing a complete set of clothes." I sipped from my cup just as he bit on to his apple. I have a lot of questions I want to ask Damon. Like what does he do exactly? And what is he? I still don't believe him. How does he know Ellie and why does she trust Damon so much?

Surely, a sane person wouldn't allow a man and a woman stay on the same apartment.

You're adults Catherine. At least you are. Damon on the other hand...

"Well bonbon, it's either I'm shirtless, pantless, or nothing at all!"

See what I mean?

I rested my cheek on the palm of my hand and stared at him. I thought that when he said he was going to distract me, he would...that we would... I blushed just by thinking about it.

The big Guy wouldn't send someone just so I can get laid.

I covered my mouth even when I didn't say it out loud.

Was that what I was thinking the whole time?

I saw him look at me. I looked down at my coffee cup to avoid eye contact. He snapped his fingers and leaned towards me.

"I knew it!" I suddenly looked up to see a grin on his face.

Please don't tell me he can read minds.

"You were considering it. About me, you, mind, body and soul..." He moved his eyebrows suggestively. Blushing, I decided to change the direction of the conversation instead. He finished his apple and threw the remains on the trash bin.

"Damon, other than eating apples, what else do you use it for?" He looked at me and wiggled his eyebrows again. "My, my bonbon. I didn't know you were into such...kinky-" I glared at him and he raised his hands in surrender.

"Alright alright. I smoke. Smoked." I blinked.

"You smoke apples?" He shook his head slightly.

"How do I explain this to you. I try not to smoke when I'm with you so I had to think of an alternative. I have an electronic cigarette."

"Aren't those banned?" I asked him. I was told they cause more harm than a normal cigar.

"Who cares? I just don't want you smelling smoke."

"Well if air pollution isn't harmful enough, I don't know if cigar smoke can make it any worse." He sighed and sat back on his chair.

"Fine then. I'm...recovering. I started smoking when I was... I don't know, thirteen. It was hard to stop then. But the guys at work found out and made me brush my teeth until they think the smell was gone." he took my hands and started playing with them.

"How old were you when they found out?" He looked like he was hesitating but I squeezed his hand gently.

"Twenty two..." It was barely audible but I heard it.

"I...well." I cleared my throat.

"It's okay to laugh you know. The guys at work are like family. They're just trying to look after me." I saw him smile at our hands but I knew it wasn't because we were holding hands but because he was thinking about the people he worked with.

"What do you do Damon?"

"I already told you what I do." I smirked.

"You fix and make stuff better." He nodded.

"Is that what you're going to do to me?" He frowned and stared at me intently.

"What did you just say...?"

"That you're here to fix and make me better."

Might as well get to the point.

Suppose I do believe that he was sent here for me. He's been living with me for almost a month now but he never really talked about himself. He always asks me on what I'm like. I answer since most of them are trivial anyway. Like what do I do on weekends or what I don't like about movie adapted novels. When he wasn't busy annoying me, he was actually a great person to talk to. But there are times when I just want to choke him to death when he fools around too much. So if he's here to distract me, then he might as well stay forever.

"I was sent here to distract you Catherine. Not to change you." I sneaked a glance and saw this smug look on his face. Like he can't seem to process what I just said and he was trying real hard to understand.

"And when does this...expire. You distracting me." He looked at me, still looking confused.

"When you find, these are his words; when you find 'the one'."

"Who exactly is he." He smiled at me.

"Someone the Big Guy trusts."

"Like an angel or something?"

Chuckling, he shook his head. "Far from it."

Frowning, I got up but sat back down again when I remembered what he said earlier. "Are you still smoking it now?"

He raised his brow and nodded.

"It's not really any of my business. But, uh...it would be better if you stopped, uh...smoking apples or any kind of fruit whatsoever." Laughing, he put his right hand on his chest and raised his left, gesturing that he promised.

"So whoever sent you here, did they give you rules to follow. You know, like no flirting with the client or something like that?" "I wasn't given any rules. All he said was 'distract her' that was it."

"And you didn't ask questions on why? Why you? Why me? Why now?" He got up and slowly made his way towards where I sat. I tried not to squirm and stared straight to his eyes.

"It was from upstairs. Whatever He wanted to achieve includes you, me and your future 'the one'. That's all you need to know." I swallowed, well this wasn't what I was expecting, I was just trying to joke around about him getting orders from the big Guy but at this moment, realizing how serious he was at answering my questions...I just don't know anymore.

"Now about what you said regarding me flirting with you..." my eyes widened when his face got a little closer to mine.

"I barely go out. Maybe we should-I should go out. Clubbing maybe. Yeah it would be best if I went cohering with other people "I replied quickly and got off the chair. He straightened and looked at me curiously. His eyes were, they were doing something to me...just like at the parking lot. I placed a hand on the wall to try to steady myself. Of course I didn't mean the clubbing part. That was no way or hardly the best way to find the guy I'm supposed to end up with but since I mentioned it, maybe there is no harm on having a little fun.

That was when a smile slowly appeared on Damon's face and I swear I felt something cold, like a long, sharp finger nail run down my spine.

"I think it would be best if we go out."

"Best. Right. Ha-ha. I'll just try to look for something to wear. You know girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do." I was walking backwards and bumped on the couch. I heard him laugh and I turned quickly towards the safety of my room. I shut the door firmly and leaned on it.

'Whatever He wanted to achieve includes you, me and your future 'the one'. That's all you need to know.'

I took a deep breath and opened my closet to find the dress that mom gave me two Christmases ago. My 'the one' and I need to meet soon and staying at home all the time wouldn't help him find me and vice versa.

'Now about what you said regarding me flirting with you...'

I shivered. He better find me soon. Thinking about how close Damon's face has gotten to mine, I pulled out the midnight blue dress I swore I would never wear.

Better yet, I had to find him soon.
