Perri on the side --->

~•~•~•~

When I woke up it was almost dark outside - I had missed dinner. Groaning, I pulled myself up from my bed and shuffled down to the huge kitchen. A few pack members were sitting around the table, talking. I made some cereal and decided to join them.

"Hi, Perri!" Annie, a preppy blonde, spoke.

"Hey Annie", I said, forcing a smile. Annie was the type of girl who only hung out with you because you were popular - something that I didn't appreciate.

Dan, Toby, and the other scout - who's name was Keith - were nowhere to be seen. I assumed they were out on patrols or something, but then I realized that there weren't many able-bodied male wolves about.

"Hey", I said, interrupting the current conversation, "What happened with those rogues?"

A tall brunette named Una answered. "Alpha Liatree took care of them. He and his men captured around six. There weren't any others around our territory. The most any other pack have seen wreaking havoc was six, too. We think it must've been the same six."

How the hell did she know all this?

"Why did the Blue Dawn pack need assistance against rogues then? Surely they could've handled them by themselves."

Annie smiled grimly. "Yeah, but six wolves can do a lot of damage."

These rogues must be damn strong, then. "How many men did it take to capture them?"

"Around thirty, and ten of them are heavily injured." This time it was Gail, a quiet girl, who spoke.

Wow. I do not wanna get on their bad side. Although chances are, I'll never meet them. "Okay, so where is everyone?"

"All the guys are out training", Una said.

"Is Dad training with them?" I asked. I felt like I was asking a lot of questions, but what could I say? I was curious. Especially about that scent I caught, and how everyone else smelled something foul.

"No, he's questioning the rogues", Annie said, rolling her eyes. "He isn't getting very far, though. They won't answer a thing. Alpha and his guards haven't started torturing them yet, but they will soon. Shame. I saw them when the warriors were bringing them to the cells, and damn, they were hot."

I snorted quietly. If I'm completely honest, Annie was a bit of a slut. Though I'm not one to deny a person's attractiveness, I don't usually act on it. Annie does. She's been with more guys than I can count on my fingers and toes combined. I pity her mate, when she finds him.

Gail laughed softly and Annie shot her a look that dared her to say something aloud. Una just sat there dumbly, watching. I stood up from the table and started walking out, ignoring the calls from Annie asking where I'm going.

I passed a few pack members on my way to the door, and most were teenagers or unmated wolves. Most mated couples moved out of the pack house after they found each other or decided to start a family. Only the alpha and his mate and the beta and his mate stayed in the pack house when they found their mates. It simply wasn't big enough to house the whole pack, seeing as we had over two hundred members.

I walked out the front door and onto the lawn. The grounds of our mansion were huge, and there were even a few cottages for elders here and there. There was a meeting hall, and a squat, gray building that held cells. Everyone else lived close - still on pack territory, but not on the actual grounds of the pack house.

I was headed for the cells, where my dad was, and most likely Dan. I wanted to know more about these rogues, mainly because of that one scent I'd caught. I knew the scent of rogues, and I knew what members of our pack smelled like. But this wolf - it was definitely a wolf - was different. I didn't know why or how, and it confused the hell out of me.

A few pack members waved at me as I passed them, and I waved back. As I neared the cells, the guards posted outside the dark building moved aside to let me in. If I had been any other she-wolf I wouldn't have been allowed inside, but since I was the Alpha's daughter, they let me in.

Directly inside there was a long hallway. There was no light, so I used my enhanced eyesight, even though there was nothing to see. The walls were plain concrete and so was the floor. At the end of the hallway there was a door, leading to the security room. There was a flight of stairs leading downwards, so I presumed that was where the cells were. Surprisingly enough, I'd never been here before.

I walked lightly down the steps, and sure enough, I was now in a room with a row of cells on each side. A few of them were filled, all of the occupants vicious looking rogues.

There was a large door on the other side of the room, and I guess that was where my dad was, along with Dan and the newly captured rogues. The ones in the cells were giving me nasty looks, but none of them said anything. There was a bad smell in the air, and I knew this was the scent all rogues had. Except the one I'd sensed earlier.

I shuffled over to the door, trying my best not to pay attention to the people in the cells around me. I reached the door and didn't bother knocking; I just opened it.

The room inside revealed six guys tied to chairs with silver handcuffs on their wrists. I didn't look at any of their faces, but that scent was there again. My wolf was yelling something at me but I didn't pay attention to her. Dad and Dan were standing in front of the chairs, eyebrows raised at me.

I closed the door carefully and turned to face them. "Um...can I join?"

At the sound of my voice, one of the rogue wolves growled, making me turn to look at him. In front of me, tied to a chair, was the most attractive person I'd ever seen, despite the dirt that covered him. He had dark hair that was slightly tousled, a straight nose and full, kissable lips. I instantly knew that he was the source of the scent I'd been thinking about all day.

When I looked into his eyes, which were a piercing blue, I finally understood what my wolf was trying to tell me.

Mate.

Oh my god. I just found my freaking mate, who happens to be a rogue that my dad captured and who was terrorizing the Blue Dawn pack for weeks. I felt a mixture of nausea and excitement as my plain green eyes met his deep smoldering ones.

It felt like we were the only people in the room. I couldn't drag my gaze away from him, even if I tried. He was just as caught up as I was. Even though he had just been captured and was now being questioned harshly about his movements, a broad smile was starting to take over his face.

I started to smile back, but just like that I snapped out of the daze I was in. I became aware of Dad's voice and tuned in.

"Hello? Am I missing something here?" He asked suspiciously, looking between me and the rogue.

Then I actually realized our situation. My dad hated rogues, and had hated them for as long as I could remember. My mate happened to be one, and had proved himself to be dangerous. I couldn't let us be together, not if I wanted to keep the pack safe.

I would have to reject him. But I couldn't, not with my dad and his Beta here. I knew it was petty and stupid, but I didn't want the pack to know who my mate was. I would instantly be an outcast, and Dad would definitely kill the rogue, not giving a crap who he was. He would choose a new mate for me, someone who I couldn't love, and who probably had a mate out there somewhere.

As long as I pretended I didn't have a mate, I would be fine. We would be fine.

"Um...no", I replied, turning to look at my dad. Dan had his eyes narrowed in suspicion, but he didn't say anything. The rogue's face fell, and I immediately felt bad for basically denying the fact that he was my mate.

I tried not to look at him again and went to stand beside Dan. My mate growled lowly before stopping himself. Dad looked at him confusedly before turning to me.

"Perri, what are you doing here? It's dangerous."

"I -uh", I began. "I wanted to be here when you questioned the rogues. Besides, they're tied up."

Dan nudged me in the side and spoke into my mind. 'He's your mate, isn't he?'

I knew there was no use lying to him. This guy had known me all my life and would definitely be able to tell. He was the one who freaking taught me how to lie to my parents! That was before he became Beta, of course. I gave a slight nod of my head and his eyes widened.

'Holy shit!'

Dad looked at me. "It doesn't matter, we were just finishing up. They aren't telling us anything. We'll torture them tomorrow."

I let out a low growl before I could stop myself. Dad glanced at me in surprise and I cleared my throat. "Sorry."

Out of the corner of my eye I could see my rogue mate smirking, but I ignored him. I followed Dad and Dan outside the room.

There were guards posted on either side that I was certain hadn't been there before, and Dad told them to bring the rogues to some cells. The three of us walked back t the pack house in silence, and all I could think about was my mate.

What was I going to do?

~•~•~•~•~•~•~

Dad and Dan hahahahaha

Okay sorry. This isn't edited but I found someone to play Perri! I picked Georgia May Foote. I hope you like her for the role, but if you don't you can just keep imagining her the way you want

Also, I'm thinking of putting a song on the side for each chapter, so if you fond one that you think fits, tell me and I'll add it in.
