I woke up on Sunday morning with a headache that had sprouted from nowhere and a heavy arm around my waist. I pushed it off me and sat up, my loose hair tumbling around my shoulders. Today was the day that Piercing would be questioned, and I wanted to be present for it. It felt like the day Aiden and the rest of the guys had been interrogated about their reasoning for bothering the Blue Dawn pack, only this time there was no getting out of it for Piercing; he didn't have a mate who happened to be the Alpha's daughter.

I went through my usual morning routine and then decided to go downstairs for breakfast. Rian was at the kitchen table scarfing down bacon and eggs when I got there. He greeted me with an enthusiastic grin which I tried to return, although I probably looked like a constipated hippo.

Most people were still shaken up about Annie's death and I caught several girls looking around as if expecting Rick to appear out of nowhere and murder them. I wasn't too worried - it would take a lot of power to come into the kitchen at the pack house without being caught by guards. Patrols had almost been tripled, and anyone who was able-bodied and a good scout was patrolling the perimeter. Dad hadn't let Mark or Rian or even Aiden go because he was a little suspicious, even though he tried to cover it up by saying they didn't have enough experience.

I saw Dan in the kitchen, but instead of acknowledging me, his eyes flitted straight past to look straight out the window. I knew he'd seen me; I wasn't invisible. But it kind of hurt - we weren't as close as we had been anymore. We barely talked, and when we did our conversations were short and awkward. I kind of knew that our friendship wasn't what it used to be, and there was no going back to those times where we would hide from our parents, before his were killed. There was no going back to when we used to share everything with each other, either.

People drift, and right now Dan was busy and I had enough worries on my mind. We might be able to fix everything later on, but for the moment I had to be content with the other friends I had.

"Hey," Rian said brightly, drawing me put of my thoughts. He was oblivious to the conflicts Aiden and Dan had with each other; I guess Dan felt as if Aiden was replacing him. Not with me, but with the rest of the pack. Everyone seemed to like Aiden a lot, and he was always being asked if he was up for a game of soccer, or if he wanted to go to so-and-so's party next weekend.

"Hi," I replied, sliding into the seat across from him and grabbing a plate from the pile at the side. I took a share of bacon and pancakes, pouring myself a glass of orange juice to wash it all down.

"Did you hear when they're going to see that dude we caught yesterday?" Rian asked conversationally.

"No...did you?" I inquired, hoping he would know so that I could 'sneak' in like last time.

"No, that's why I was asking you," he replied, causing me to roll my eyes. I looked over at Dan, who was standing by the window, gazing out as if he were deep in thought.

"Dan?" I said tentatively. "Do you know?"

His shoulders tensed when he heard me talking to him, but he quickly composed himself and ignored me as if I hadn't said anything at all.

"Sheesh," said Rian in a loud whisper, "Who peed in his cereal?"

"Rian!" I chided, although I knew he could see the way the corners of my mouth tilted upwards the tiniest bit. "Leave him alone."

"Okay, okay," he said, holding his hands up in mock surrender.

Just then, Lisa bounded into the kitchen. "What's up guys?" She said loudly, taking a seat beside me and reaching for some of my food. I slapped her hand away, but not before she managed to nab a piece of bacon.

I glared at her as she chewed with her mouth open dramatically. She was so gross sometimes. "Nothing much," Rian shrugged. "Have you seen Mark around?"

Lisa wrinkled her nose. "No, he's still spending time with his lover. Aiden and Perri weren't like that, were you?" She asked, turning to me. "I can't remember."

"I don't think so," I said, wracking my brain. "We were kind of like get-away-from-me one second and then we were just like I-love-you the next. It was weird."

Rian spat out his food in a disgusting mess on the table. "You guys said the 'l' word to each other?!"

"Yeah..." I said slowly, not seeing what they were getting at. Lisa smacked me over the head.

"Why didn't you tell us?!"

"Ow," I grumbled, shooting her a dirty look. She shrugged helplessly, raising an eyebrow in expectancy. "I didn't think it was that important. Besides, I haven't really spent that much time with you guys over the past week or so."

Rian nodded, furrowing his eyebrows. "Okay, so I get the second part. But not important? Dude, you could be pregnant for all we know!"

I rolled my eyes - Rian was so dramatic sometimes. "My scent would have changed if we'd mated, and then again if I was pregnant. You'd probably notice."

"Yeah, Rian," said Lisa, pretending she hadn't been thinking along the same lines as Rian. "Gosh, you're such an over-exaggerator sometimes."

Rian stuck his tongue out at her childishly. "What, me? You're the one who tried to spy on Perri and Aiden when they were on their date yesterday."

"What?" I spluttered. "How did you even know we went on a date?"

"Aiden mind linked Rian and said "Perri and I are going on a date so don't interrupt us, okay?" and Rian was like "OMG Lisa, Perri and Aiden are going to have sex!" So of course I had to make sure you were keeping everything PG," Lisa explained with a shrug and sent Rian a look that said, shut up now.

"Okay," I held my hand up. "First of all, since when does "going on a date" mean "ready to have sex"? And secondly, don't try to spy on us again, it's creepy."

"Oh come on, Pez, you know you want to fuck him," Rian said shamelessly, wiggling his eyebrows up and down.

My cheeks flushed beet red immediately. "No I don't!" I cried, perhaps a little too quickly.

"Hmm, you sure about that?" Lisa questioned, a smirk tilting her lips upwards.

"Shut up!" I said, causing them to laugh.

Just then, Aiden appeared in the doorway. Rian burst into hysterical giggles as if he were some sixth-grader who just found out who their friend's crush was. I flicked him from across the table in an attempt to shut him up, but that only fueled his attempt to get a six pack.

Aiden frowned as he took the only empty seat, which was beside Rian. "Am I missing something?" He asked.

Lisa opened her mouth to speak but I quickly elbowed her in the side. Instead of spewing about our conversation from a few minutes ago, she emitted a loud squawk that made her sound like a dying parakeet.

Aiden became more suspicious, his eyes darting from Lisa to me and back again. "Um, what?"

Rian sighed loudly as if we were bestowing a great burden upon him. "Perri here wants to have sex with you!"

I choked on my food and began coughing violently. Lisa smacked me on the back so hard that I flew forward and my face smashed directly in the pool of maple syrup that I'd squirted all over my pancakes. Well, that stopped me choking alright.

Instead of helping me, my friends began laughing hysterically all over again, while I sat up with bits of pancake stuck to my now-sticky face. Even Aiden sounded like he was about to pee himself. Now, don't get me wrong, I love his laugh, but it's not so great when he's laughing at some syrup that got stuck to my face.

I stood up and some pack members looked amused when they saw my face. "I'm going to go and clean up," I muttered, heading for the stairs.

I quickly washed my face and fixed my hair again, making sure that no food had gotten into it. I didn't want to go through the whole process of washing it for the second time this morning.

A while later, Dad informed me through the mind link that he'd be going down to the cells to question Piercing. He said that Dan wasn't going to be there this time but I was free to come along if I wished.

We were sitting on the couch in the living room and everyone had (hopefully) forgotten about the incident in the kitchen earlier. I'd caught a glimpse of Mark leading Gail outside so that they could go for a walk or something.

Aiden had his arm around my shoulder and I was leaning my head on his chest. Lisa was on one of the other couches snuggled up to Logan and Rian was sprawled on the rug. We were all watching Mean Girls 1&2 because Rian insisted they were brilliant, and I had to admit he was quite right. I had to stifle a laugh when I saw Aiden's eyes glued to the screen.

I lifted my head off his chest and removed his arm from my waist, standing up. "I've got to go, guys, they're talking to that rogue down at the cells. I'll be back later, though."

Rian pouted and Aiden frowned. "Do you want me to come with you?"

"I think I'll be okay, it's only like a hundred metres away," I said, smiling a little. I turned to go."Bye."

Aiden looked troubled, but he tried to force a grin. "Okay, tell me what you find out later."

"Will do," I said. I left through the front door and made my way to the pack prison. The guards at the door didn't question my presence and simply moved aside for me. I walked down the long hallway inside and hurried down the steps and into the room with all the cells. I didn't dare look at any of the people in the cells as I passed.

When I got to the end, I still hadn't seen Piercing. I stopped at the guards and gestured to the door in front of us which led to the room where newly-caught intruders were questioned. "Is my dad in there?" I asked.

One of the guards nodded his head.

"Can I go in?" I said, half-taking a step towards the closed door already. I wanted to go in right away so that I wasn't missing anything.

"Yes," said the guard in a freakishly deep voice. I put my hand on the door handle and turned it quickly, not giving myself the chance to turn back.

Dad was standing in the middle of the room and Piercing was chained to a chair. His seemingly-permanent scowl deepened when he saw me but I just grinned in return.

Dad nodded his head in greeting and I moved to stand beside him. The guards had long since shut the door behind me.

"So..." Dad started. "You know why you're here. We need information on your side of things and we think that you've got that information."

Piercing growled a little but kept silent for the most part. Dad started walking in slow circles around the chair. "Who is your leader?" asked Dad. His tone was little more than a whisper and sounded quite dangerous.

Piercing didn't speak.

"Okay, we'll take a different approach. What is your name?"

Silence.

"Answer me!" Dad suddenly roared, his voice emitting huge amounts of Alpha authority.

Holy shit.

"Steve," Piercing mumbled. Yeah, he looked like a Steve.

"Steve," Dad repeated. "Tell me, how many rogues are there in your group?"

Steve kept quiet, choosing instead to focus on the floor. Dad reached out and in one quick move, Steve's nose was pouring blood and Dad had a clenched fist.

Wow, have you ever seen your dad punch someone right on the nose? That was like a scrapbook moment.

"Talk," Dad growled menacingly.

"Thirty," Steve grumbled. Hmm, thirty. We had around fifty trained warriors and everyone else at least knew how to defend themselves. If it came to it we would crush them in a fight.

"Tell me the truth," Dad said blankly. I was surprised that he could tell that Steve was lying - I mean, I'd thought he was telling the truth. He wasn't in any way a bad liar.

Steve sighed, seemingly giving up. "Sixty."

That was double what he'd said before. If we had to fight them we'd still win pretty easily, although there might be a few casualties on our side.

The questions went on, and each time Steve attempted to lie or keep silent, and each time Dad called him out on it.

We found out that Steve wasn't close to "The Boss" as he called it and that he'd never actually met him. For it was in fact a him, as he'd been told by some other rogue wolves. The Boss had lots of wolves set to do his bidding and he'd apparently tempted them with power in order to get them to comply. Steve didn't know where he was based because he always sent his cronies to inform Steve of his duties. That was all he was ready to tell us, and to be honest it wasn't much.

It didn't really help us in defeating him at all, but perhaps he might recall something else important tomorrow. Dad was angrier by the end of his questionnaire than he had been when it started, but that was to be expected. He was hoping to acquire some new information that would lead us closer to getting these rogues out of our hair, but all he got was a few numbers.

That would have helped us prepare if we weren't already undergoing extra training.

Dad ordered the guards to bring Steve back to his cell, and he sent me back to the house. I was slightly indignant at first but then I was at the receiving end of Dad's special look that said, do what I say or you'll regret it.

So I left, trailing my way back up to the pack house. Mean Girls 2 was almost halfway through when I arrived at the living room and a few more people had gathered to watch it. I settled back on the couch and leaned against Aiden. He put his arm around my shoulder but thankfully didn't say anything in regards to what had gone on down at the pack prison.

I knew he would ask about it later but I was glad he didn't right now. I was tired and my brain was scrambled and I just wanted time to go over everything in my mind.

Hopefully I would get it before Steve's leader and his "army" decided to attack.
