Perri's POV

Monday mornings will always be one of the most irritating things to ever exist, especially when you have to get up early right after any kind of holiday. I'd set an alarm last night after informing Aiden that I would be going to school. He wasn't happy about it, but he understood that I obviously had to finish my education.

The alarm did it's job and woke me at 6.30AM with an incessant beeping noise. I shut it off with more force than necessary and stumbled out of bed, rubbing my bleary eyes to get rid of the sleep in them.

Unsurprisingly, Aiden hadn't woken up and I felt like I should be worried that even loud noises didn't wake him when he slept. But I had asked him about it and he'd shrugged and said that his wolf would wake him if it was anything important.

I showered quickly and got dressed in a pair of skinny jeans and a cute blue sweater. I finished the outfit with my black ankle boots and tied my hair back in a ponytail. I didn't bother with makeup seeing as it was just a Monday morning.

Lisa was going to be driving us to school because apparently Rian drove like a maniac and I never learned. Aiden promised he'd teach me sometime, but honestly I didn't think there'd ever be a situation where I absolutely had to drive. I mean, I would learn at some point, just not now.

I had thankfully remembered to bring my schoolbag so I slung it over my shoulder and went to call on Rian to see if he was ready yet. He answered after a few knocks, dressed in his usual attire, which consisted of a pair of gray sweatpants and a white t-shirt. We exchanged greetings and he told me that Lisa was on her way to pick us up.

If I was honest, I would have to say that I was kind of nervous about going back. I would be seeing all of my old pack members, including Annie and Gail. Luckily Dan had already graduated high school, so he wouldn't be there.

But I was scared that some of the people I used to hang out with would see me with Rian and Lisa. I wasn't ashamed about being friends with them or anything, I was just worried that someone might have a snide remark or two. I knew that my friends could take care of themselves, but I kind of felt responsible for my pack's actions, which was understandable seeing as I was the Alpha's daughter.

Soon Lisa arrived, holding her bag in her hand. She was dressed similarly to Rian, in sweatpants and a simple t-shirt. We all got into the now-familiar Aston Martin and Lisa drove us to school. I called shotgun, so Rian had to sit in the back with a pout on his face.

We pulled up in front of the school, which was the same as always. Students were milling around, talking to their friends, but most of them were human and I didn't know any of them. We all went our separate ways when the bell rang, promising to see each other at lunch.

Luckily there was no one I knew well in my first few classes, so I didn't have to have an awkward conversation with someone. Then came lunch.

I switched my books from my previous classes to the ones I would have now and then cautiously made my way to the cafeteria, where my friends had said they would be.

I quickly spotted both Rian and Lisa seated at a table on their own and I wondered how I'd never noticed them before. I liked to think that I would have gone over and talked to them if I had, but the truth was I wouldn't. I would have just stayed with my 'friends' from the pack. However, things were different now.

They saw me looking and waved, which I returned with a smile. I grabbed a tray and joined the line for food, waiting patiently. Unfortunately for me, a familiar whiny voice spoke from behind me. "Oh my gosh, Perri!"

I turned around, plastering a fake smile on my face. "Hey, Annie."

"You're back!" She exclaimed with way to much enthusiasm and clutched me in a short hug, her sharp nails digging into the skin on my shoulders.

"Yeah", I said, shifting uncomfortably and hoping she would just go away.

"How was your aunt's?" She gushed, causing me to freeze and a thoroughly confused expression to take over my face.

"Um, what?"

"You know, your aunt's", she said, flipping her hair over her shoulder and smiling patronizingly. "Danny said you were gone from pack territory because you had to go to Louisiana."

"Oh! Oh, yeah", I said, remembering the lie, "It was great. And it's Beta Dan, to you." I added, unable to resist shoving my higher status in her face and inwardly laughing at the fact that she was making up unoriginal nicknames for him even though it was quite obvious that he held a strong dislike for her. She was persistent, I'd give her that.

She huffed, crossing her arms. "It's only a matter of time before he figures out that we're mates and then we'll be equal and we can live happily ever after."

I tried not to snort at how delusional she was and got my food, finally at the front of the line. "Annie, no offense, but I think if you were mates he'd have realized that a year ago when he turned eighteen."

She pouted childishly, paying for her own measly salad. "I'm sure the bond is just a little slow in arriving. Complications and all that." She waved a hand in the air.

To be quite honest, I was surprised she actually knew a word like 'complications'. But this time I couldn't stop the laughter that bubbled out of my chest. "Hon, the bond would've existed since before you were born if you guys were mates. I'm afraid you just aren't meant to be."

She rolled her eyes, following me as I started carrying my tray through the cafeteria. "What would you know about mates anyway?"

I opened my mouth to tell her that I had a mate, but shut it quickly. If I told Annie, one of the biggest gossipers I'd ever known, the news would get around the school extremely fast that the Alpha's daughter was mated to a rogue. It's not that I was ashamed of Aiden, I just didn't want anyone to assume unnecessary things and start rumors. They would think I'd rejected him, and if I told them I didn't they would plague me with questions about what it was like to be mated to a rogue. And I didn't want to answer because it would end up in a huge fight with me yelling that rogues were just people, and that they should stop discriminating against them. Admittedly some rogues weren't the nicest, but not all pack members were great either.

So instead I just sighed and veered away when Annie went to sit at the "popular" table like usual. I set my tray beside Rian and Lisa and sat down. "Hey guys."

Instead of replying, however, their eyes shifted to something behind me. I turned around and saw Annie, looking thoroughly confused. I internally groaned. Why couldn't she just go and sit at her table and leave me to sit at mine?

"Why are you sitting here?" She wrinkled her nose and shuddered as if being in the presence of rogues for a minute was going to contaminate her scent forever.

"Because these are my friends", I said in a 'duh' tone, smirking a bit when she opened and shut her mouth like a fish.

"B-but we're your friends", she said, pointing behind her to the table full of pack wolves who were talking and laughing together.

"I know", I agreed, "But I have other friends too, you know."

"Since when were you best buddies with a pair of filthy rogues?" She tried a different tactic, disgust evident in her tone and the glare she gave Rian and Lisa. Thankfully they weren't the type to get violent unless the other person made a move first, but it kind of saddened me the way they were completely fine with her insulting them and they acted as if they were totally unaware of the situation. Because they'd told me that they were used to it.

"Annie, just leave us alone", I sighed, not wanting to start a fight in the middle of the cafeteria where everyone could see us. Besides, I wasn't in the mood for Annie's shit today.

"Fine", she huffed. "But don't expect me to even talk to you anymore because now you've gone over to the dark side."

I rolled my eyes as the drama queen flounced off to sit beside Gail, who shot me an apologetic grin. I awkwardly waved before turning back to Rian and Lisa. "Sorry about Annie. She can be a bit of a bitch sometimes."

"I'll say", Rian snorted. "See, that's one of the reasons why I don't want to join a pack."

"It's not all bad", I defended. "You've always got people to back you up if there's ever a threat, and there's a sense of order about the place. And it's kind of nice living in an environment where you have your friends just down the hall."

Lisa laughed. "The three of us are rogues, and we've all got each other to back us up. And sometimes you've gotta live a little instead of playing by the rules all the time. Plus, I bet you wouldn't like it if you had to see us every day."

"I do see you every day", I deadpanned, smirking when Rian chuckled and Lisa's mouth formed the shape of a small 'o'.

"Well in that case, pack life is great!" She cheered, throwing her arms in the air but accidentally hitting her open bottle of water, which tipped over and within a second there was a large puddle in the middle of the table.

"Oops", Lisa said awkwardly, staring at the water as if that would make it magically go away.

"Pick up the damn bottle!" I screeched, seeing that the remnants of the drink were slowly dripping out onto the table and making the whole mess worse.

Rian grabbed the plastic bottle and set it right while Lisa just kept her eyes on the table. I sighed, "Lisa, get a napkin and clean it up.'

She jumped as if suddenly realizing we were there and flushed. "Oh, yeah sorry." She got up and went in search of a napkin or a tissue or something and I rolled my eyes. It never failed to surprise me how she could zone out in any sort of situation - even right after spilling her drink all over the table.

Rian laughed from beside me, looking after Lisa, who was arguing with the lunch lady about how it was a disgrace that there weren't tissues at every table because what if someone dramatically ended a relationship and the person who got dumped started to cry and then they got a snotty nose and everyone else had to look at it until they got a tissue?

Yeah, she's not normal.

Lisa finally admitted defeat and went to the janitor's closet - which was unoccupied, as she told us when she came back - and when she returned she had a whole armful of paper towels. She dumped them on the table, saying, "I'll just let them soak up the water so that I don't really have to do anything."

We told her that her dumb plan would work to some extent, but the surface would remain damp if she didn't properly wipe up the spill. She merely shrugged and said the cleaning ladies could sort it later. I was looking forward to the day when she failed to achieve whatever her dreams were and ended up being a cleaning lady in a high school.

The rest of lunch passed by without mishap and afterwards I was pleasantly surprised to see that I shared a class with both Rian and Lisa, and another with just Rian.

I suffered through a terrible hour of maths with him flicking bits of paper at me and asking for unnecessary help. It was tiresome, but I knew he was just joking around and trying to liven up the dour atmosphere that was only there because the teacher was a cranky old man who looked like a weasel.

When the final bell rang I grinned in relief and shoved my books into my bag. No one really seemed to mind that I'd made friends with two rogues except Annie, who kept shooting me dirty looks when the teacher's back was turned. Yeah, sadly I also shared a class with her.

I saw the guys that I'd met in the pack house kitchen the day when I was out of heat - Alec, Logan and Trent - and they all smiled and waved. We had a short conversation which consisted of hey's and how are you's and we should hang out sometime's before Lisa dragged me away and interrogated me on why I was talking to those "hotties". I told her I'd only met them one day at the pack house, but she kept giving me suspicious looks as if she didn't believe me.

"Come on, we've gotta get to the car before Rian does, otherwise he's gonna drive and we're gonna die", Lisa whined as I led the way to my locker.

"You go on ahead; I just need to put my books back", I smiled, knowing that she wouldn't be happy with me if I was the cause for Rian getting to the car first.

She nodded gratefully before racing down the hallway, pushing through the throngs of students that crowded the place. I walked to my locker as the school emptied further, although there were still other stragglers like me.

I put in my combination and it opened easily, causing me to sigh in relief. Sometimes the lockers got jammed and wouldn't open no matter what.

I was surprised when an envelope fluttered out, landing on the floor by my feet. I bent down and picked it up, turning it over. On the front was my name, written carefully in cursive lettering. I frowned, opening it by the seal, which was a heart sticker. Childish, but it did the job.

When I opened it, a piece of tattered note paper fell out, confusing me as to why the envelope was so carefully constructed, yet the paper inside was obviously torn out of a book. I forced myself to stop over thinking and read the letters that were hastily scribbled down. What I saw, however, made my hands freeze.

Roses are red,

Violets are blue,

I'd watch my back

If I were you.
