She pushed his hand back, as if his mere touch burnt her entire soul. She looked into his eyes and narrowed hers which were now filled with fury. He wants me to listen after the show the bitch showcased a few minutes back!

“You want to talk now Alex?” she folded her hands and gave him a tight lipped smile.

“Alright then, let’s talk. But before that, I want you to answer a few mind boggling questions that are killing my head right now.”

Alexander could feel things taking a nasty turn from here.  He could see pain and anger. At the same time he was surprised to see how well she hid it all skilfully. She wasn’t the same Rose whom he saw in the old house. She was growing strong. She was fighting.

Before he could tell anything further, she spoke.

“Why did you let her kiss you?” She whispered, but she knew that it would be clear to his ears and took a step closer to him as she looked deeper into those green eyes that she always loved.

“Why did you let her touch you like that?” she questioned, and gulped when she finished that sentence. She couldn’t bare the sight of another woman touching the man she loved with all her heart.

By now a traitorous tear slipped out of her eye and she immediately wiped it away with the back of her hand, determined to not show the torturous pain growing inside her.

“You should know who she is before knowing why I did not….” Alexander was stopped before he could complete his words.

“I know who she is damn it!” She yelled, and pushed his shoulders backwards with all her strength. Alexander did not see that coming and he stumbled backwards. The back of his knee hit the table and brought the flower vase to the floor as it broke into pieces. He was astonished by her anger, at the same time his own anger was slowly taking its form. But he skilfully hid it from her keeping his face void of his emotions. He let her yell and push him around this time, an angry Rose was better than a Rose who avoided him. He would take all this, because partly, it was his mistake too.

“I know who she is.” She said lowering her voice as tears started filling up her eyes involuntarily.

“She very proudly introduced herself as the woman who warmed your bed.” She spat out, gritting her teeth. She jabbed her index finger into his chest and spat the rest of her fury.

“You had sex with her. You fucked with her life and body until it pleased you and you left.”

“That’s not the truth Roseanne...”

“And guess what? Now she is back. She wants you. I could see it clearly in her eyes. I saw the way she was hungry for your attention and touch. A woman can understand another woman, Alexander. She knows when another woman is rooting for her man and you can’t fucking deny it.” she spat out and stopped as she tried her level best to catch her lost breath.

She moved back and wiped her tears. She bent her head and kept her hand on her chest.

“It hurts. Do you know how it hurt me?” she said and raised her head to look at him as she poked down on her chest real hard with her index finger.

“It was as if she ripped a piece of me each time she touched you, and each time you let her do that right in front of my eyes. It suffocated me and I just couldn’t take it.” she said and let her tears freely flow down her cheeks without stopping it anymore. She did not want to cover it anymore. It felt like she was losing the battle that she fought with herself.

“I…I…God, I don’t even know what’s happening anymore.” She said and gripped her scalp tightly with her fingers.

She looked back at him with tear filled red eyes and said, “do you have anything to say? Do you have a valid reason for letting her touch you and kiss you like that?” she asked him, still hoping that he would say something that would ease her pain. But she did not know that he had nothing to say this time other than to listen to her. For the first time, Alexander Hunter was speechless. He had done a mistake and the cost he had to pay for it was huge. This is why it is said that Rose was his exception; His one and only exception.

“You have nothing to say.” She said and smiled. “And now that you don’t really have any answers to justify your acts, you are not going to stop me from going. Just leave me alone.” She said and walked away with a heavy heart when she saw his soul fill with pain. But she did not want to hear him out now. Her anger would not find his words true or convincing enough to push this matter away from her mind.

Alexander watched her retreating figure and stood there still in daze. He was exhausted due to the day’s work and had not pictured his evening to end this way. He wanted to hold her and tell her something very important that meant a lot to him. Nothing seemed to go right. He gritted his teeth as he turned around and kicked the table with his foot. Pain streamed through his veins but that was not enough to numb the pain inside his chest. He dropped himself onto the couch and exhaled a long breath. How was he going to make her understand the situation? How was she going to react after listening to everything? Questions with answers unknown started popping up in his head. And from when had he started to become this weak? This question made him see sense. Alexander was not a man who gave up easily. If it was his mistake he would bring heaven and hell together to correct his wrong deeds. This time was no different, and hence, he would do what he had to do.

He had come back home with the whole evening planned out for her, to give her something special and fall asleep with her soft body in his arms. All his plans went into the drain after the entry of the devil of a woman named Lily. Alexander immediately took out his phone and pressed on a contact whose number he had not dialled since years. After a few rings, the call was answered and an aged, matured and manly voice spoke out,

“Hello Son...”

“Mr. Vladimir” Alexander spoke out, not really interested in making small talks.

“What makes you call this old man after so many years?” the person asked from the other end.

“I want to meet you.”

“You know that you can always walk into my house Alexander. Cut the formality.”

 “It’s important Julian.”

“Alright then, come to my residence anytime tomorrow. I’ll be here for you. Oh and yes, Lily is back.” he said, clearly indicating the happiness of having his daughter back home.

“Good.” He said and cut the call.

He slipped the phone onto the table and slumped back into the comfort of the couch. He ran a hand down his face and pressed his eyes with his thumb and index finger as he tried to wipe away the exhaustion. After a few minutes, he got up and made his way towards the stairs, but was interrupted by Jade.

“Mr…Mr. Alexander?” she called out to him in a timid voice.

Alexander halted climbing the stairs and turned back to look at the person who called his name. As soon as he spotted her, he nodded his head and kept his unwavering gaze on her, indicating her to continue speaking.

“I…I need to go home urgently, my mother has fallen sick and she needs help. I will return tomorrow once I arrange someone to look after her. Can I please leave now?” she asked, and played with her sweaty fingers. She hadn’t forgotten the heated conversation she witnessed between Rose and him a few minutes back and this only elevated the level of her fear.

Alexander knitted his eyebrows and looked at her without saying anything. Martha had informed him that she had a sick mother who lived alone in the nearby town and that she would go to visit her on Sundays, when all the maids had a day off.

“You can return when she is back to health. Be with her until then.” He said, and started climbing the stairs without waiting for her reply.

“Thank you Mr. Alexander” she called out, a little loudly so that her voice could reach the figure that was climbing the stairs. She never thought he would let her take a holiday this soon because it had been only two days since she arrived at the manor. She smiled and excitedly ran towards the kitchen to inform Martha and pack her bag so that she could leave soon to meet her mother.

Alexander climbed up the stairs and glanced towards her room before making his way towards his. He had to think about a way to tell her the truth. For the first time, he felt a desperate need to convince a person about his past, to accept his mistakes and to ask for forgiveness. He knew that it would take a lot of time before Rose spoke to him but he would try to be patient until then. He could never wait when it came to her, but this time, he could not afford to do anything else other than this.

He shut the door of his room harshly and walked in as he gritted his teeth with some unknown rage building inside his body.

This day was not meant to be any regular day for him. This day was to be marked as one of the most important days in their lives; a day that would mark her as his forever and him as hers. Like how a fierce tied breaks into the clam waves of a sea, Lily broke into their happiness and nothing angered Alexander more than this. He was not the one who would let others break his plans, and if they did, he would just break them in return. But this time, there was one additional person involved in his mess of a life, and for her, he would take things slow. He would learn to be patient and wait for the day she would feel comfortable to talk to him. He would at least try this for her.

He walked towards the left of his room and kept his right hand on the handle of the huge wardrobe and at the same time, his left hand slipped into the pocket of his slack and held on to the object present inside and shut his eyes as he felt the smooth velvety texture of the object.

Rose laid on her bed, facing the ceiling of her room with a tear stained face and red, puffed eyes that started to hurt. She had locked the door before she came in because she had a strong feeling that Alexander would sneak into her room at night, and she did not want that. She needed time and she was determined on not allowing him near her for a few days until she cleared her mind.

As she laid there on her bed, fragments of her past started creeping into her head and she started feeling restless and depressed more than before. Why did things always have to end this way? She thought and exhaled the breath she was holding onto. She was slowly being pulled into the deadly web in her head that always made her think a lot by shooting questions at her that she did not want to think about.

How will you trust him now?

Does he still love you?

What if leaves you like how your family did?

And at that, she abruptly got up from her bed and clutched her head so that she could forcefully stop herself from being pulled into a world that she did not want to enter. She got down from her bed and felt a shiver run up her spine when her feet hit the cold floor. She made her way to the bathroom and stood near the wash basin as she looked at herself in the mirror of the well lit interior of the lavish bathroom. She opened the tap and washed her face twice feeling the tissues in her face relax due to the touch of cold water.

She wiped her face and made her way back to her room. She moved towards her window and opened it to greedily inhale some fresh air that could help her move away from her present situation.

“Is he worth your trust?” asked the voice once again, and Rose shut her eyes in defeat.

Alexander pulled the handle of the wardrobe and opened the doors wide enough to pull out one of the drawers situated at the right of the huge wardrobe, which was filled with expensive suits to the left, and a few important files in the bottom.

He then pulled out his left hand from his pocket and removed the object as he eyed it as he felt an unknown string pull at his heart.

He opened the box and looked at the simple, yet elegant stone that sparkled brightly with pride as he rubbed his thumb lightly over the diamond ring.

“Guess you’ll have to wait. But I promise, you will be on her soon.” He thought, before he closed the box and kept it deep inside the drawer as the test of his patience began.
