Chapter 10...Monster-in-Law

I woke up and stretched finding myself alone in bed. Dawson must have had to go to work early today. I made my way to the bathroom to get my shower, and get ready for work. I let the water soak my skin, and it felt as if all the tension was draining from my body.

I still couldn't get over how well Dawson handled Bryson last month. He was so good with him. I knew right away he would make a great dad. Dawson had even told Abby that we would watch Bryson whenever she needed a babysitter. He said there was no need for one when she had two that needed the practice. If I didn't know any better I'd swear he was using my own adorable nephew against me.

As I stepped out of the shower I saw it. I had a bump. I, Danielle Meeks, had a baby bump. It wasn't big, but it was noticeable. I mean I was only 14 weeks, should I already be showing?

I searched through my clothes for something that fit. Surprise, surprise almost nothing fit. I grabbed a pair of blue jeans, a tank, and a cardigan. I sighed when my cardigan didn't hide my bump like I hoped it would. I gave up and headed for work.

My kids were in the library when my peace and quiet was interrupted. And I'll give you one guess as to who interrupted me.

"Danielle?" I turned around to see none other than Suzie.

"Yes Suzie?" I asked standing up from my chair to pass out the work for my students.

"Danielle your glowing!" Suzie squealed. She was smiling from ear to ear.

"I don't really consider sweat running down my face as glowing," I laughed looking at her as if she was crazy. "What are you smiling about?"

"I was right," Suzie stated.

"Right about what?" I asked annoyed.

"Your pregnant!" She squealed. I flushed for I knew my little secret would be brought to the surface in no time.

"Are you crazy?" I laughed cringing as I walked to the library to get my students. Suzie was sure to follow.

"Danielle your baby bump is showing!" She shouted annoyed at me. I heard gasp from the teachers standing around us. I knew everyone's eyes were on my stomach. Great just what I needed.

"When are you due?"

"Does your fiancé know?"

"Do you know what you're having?"

"You're so small you're lucky I was huge when I was pregnant."

I was getting a headache. I just wanted to runaway. Could my day get any worse? I wanted to take back my words as soon as I said them, for who was to walk through the door, but my soon to be mother-in-law.

Why was Olivia Conn in my classroom? How did she know where I worked? I glared at Suzie. She immediately avoiding making eye contact with me. I'm sure she was the reason Olivia knew where I worked.

"Oh Danielle! I'm so glad I caught you here!" Olivia sung as she entered my room as if there weren't fifteen children sitting in their desks and we were the only two in the room. Where else would I be on a week day.

"Hi Olivia, now is not the best time. Is there an emergency?" I asked smiling. I saw a kid try to throw a sip wad in Olivia's direction and I gave him the look. He immediately drooped the straw and started reading out of his library book.

"Well, my dear Danielle I would say that your lack of wedding planning is an emergency. I asked Dawson how it was coming along and he told me you hadn't even picked out a dress yet!" she exclaimed as if she were about to faint.

"Well Olivia, we haven't even set a date yet. It really isn't at the top of my to do list at the moment either," I stated trying to usher to the door.

"Not at the top of your to do list?" She stammered. I can't do this not today. Not when I have a class full of children. I will not have a meltdown. I will not cry. The damn hormones are messing with me.

"Olivia, stay right here I need to make a phone call real quick," I stated grabbing my cellphone.

I speed-dialed Dawson's cellphone. I was praying that it wasn't on silent. I needed him to have the ringer on.

"Hello?" I heard him asked somewhat confused.

"Dawson, help me now!!!" I shouted.

"Danielle calm down what is the matter?" he asked. I started to hear the children getting louder. I knew Olivia wouldn't last much longer in there alone.

"Your mother!" I shouted.

Dawson told me he was on his way, but he couldn't get here fast enough. His mother wanted to "help" me in my classroom. All she's done is stir them up, and reorganize all my files. The children were laughing at me trying to keep my cool. I have a very long fuse, but it was almost gone.

"Danielle, sit down dear you need to stay off of your feet," Olivia stated pushing me into my rolling chair.

"Olivia, I have to work this is my job," I stated smiling. "You know, the thing I do everyday to get paid."

"But Danielle there's so many wedding plans that need to be settled, and so little time," Olivia stated. She had to be kidding me.

I wanted to cry, but my knight in shinning armor came through my classroom door. His hair was tousled, and he hadn't shaved this morning. He was a walking pile of sexy.

Damn you pregnancy hormones.

"Mother, I know this wedding is very important to you, and it is very sweet of you to want to help us...But this behavior is inappropriate ," Dawson stated.

"Inappropriate?" Olivia shouted stunned. "I'm just trying to help!"

"She knows how to do her job," Dawson laughed.

"Not well," Olivia muttered.

I gasped. That was the last straw the woman was going to die. I don't care if Dawson was a pile of sexy and I wanted to drag him to the teacher's lounge and have my way with him. The witch was going down.

Just then the bell rang, and I had to take my students to their buses to go home. She was literally saved by the bell.

"Danielle do your job, I'll deal with my mother," Dawson smiled.

"Okay, I'll be right back," I replied.

When I put all of my kids on the bus, I made my way back to my room. The monster-in-law was gone, I couldn't say as much for her sexy son.

"Sorry about my mother," Dawson sighed leaning sexily against my desk.

"It's okay," I sighed leaning beside him. He looked at me and then my bump. I knew he finally saw it.

"You're finally showing," he stated smiling. It's funny I never thought the playboy would be excited about a baby. It made me laugh.

"What's so funny?" He stated looking into my eyes.

"I never thought Mr. Playboy would be excited about having a baby," I stated. There was a spilt second of hurt in his eyes.

"Two months ago I would have said the same thing," he stated. He placed a hand on my small bump. It made me get goose flesh. He was such a sweet guy. He leaned in closer and kissed me.

The kiss started off sweet, and then it turned into more. Before I knew it Dawson had me laying on my desk, and his mouth attacking mine. My hands were in his hair, holding him to me. Stupid hormones. I had to stop this, but my body didn't want to.

We broke for air, and reality came flooding back to me. "Dawson, stop we can't. Someone might see, and it's wrong."

"Danielle, I need you, and no ones going to see us. I locked the door," he whispered on my neck.

"Dawson enough!" I shouted using all my strength to shove his chest.

"Shit woman! You're definitely going to be the death of me," he hissed. I knew he was frustrated mainly because of our little make out session, but we had to stop.

"I'm sorry, Dawson," I sighed and then the waterworks stated to trickle down my face. Dawson had no clue on how to handle me and I could tell. Heck I didn't even know how to handle my emotions right now.

Dawson picked up my purse, and my homework basket, and took them to his car. He drove us home, and was an absolute gem. He made me dinner for a change. I guess I was a good teacher after all. I was in a better mood when Abby dropped off Bryson. We kinda had a routine. I graded papers while Dawson and Bryson played, and then bath time and Bryson's night bottle were my responsibility. Dawson and I really did work good as a team.

Does that mean we'd make good parents?
