For a while, everything was settled. It was perfect. Matt and I would go on adventures after school, somehow we would end up kissing each other and I had started to think the worst was over.

But I was dead wrong.

Over the course of the next few weeks, Courtney grew angrier and more sly on her ways to split us up. The question of what Henry would want from me hung over my head like a double edged sword. Matthew and his band warmed up to me and I attended their practices more and more.

I felt like any other school girl, walking down the hallway with my shoulders brushing against Matt's. Everybody would still stare at us but he would only be looking at me and I at him.
My mother warned up to the idea of having Matt around more often and she reminded me time and time again that she had never seen me happier.

And I was. Happier.

It wasn't until May 6th that reality crashed into my universe again.

"Whoa" Wes suddenly said as I stood next to him in the hallway.

I was listening to a story Harry was telling and Harry turned around his eyes widening. "What?" I asked suddenly curious.

Conner grabbed my shoulders. "Hey look, we should go to your locker, it's on the other side of this wall yeah?" he asked, glancing at Wes.

Wes nodded but his eyes kept flickering behind me. I went to turn but Wes pushed me forward. "Let's go" he said quickly.

"Why are you guys acting so weird?" I asked, shaking off Conner's hands and turning around.

Everything within me froze. Than rage seeped into my very core. Wes took a step back, staring at me. "She's going to lose it" he whispered.

Rage seeped down my veins and into my hands curling them into fists. I was angrier than I was when I saw Alana and Chris. I had never felt this furious about anything.

My eyes locked on Courtney and Matthew. "Shelby?" Conner asked wearily.

I took a deep breath and unfurled my hands. The musicians shared a glance. I turned on my heel and walked away from the sight of Courtney and Matthew with their lips locked. "Uh oh" I barely heard Harry say.

I kept walking, my eyes blind with furious tears.
My shoulder knocked into someone, making them fly into the lockers. I didn't stop. I heard running footsteps but I ignored them as I marched for the front doors.

I had never loathed anyone as I much as I loathed him and her right now. "Shelby!" I heard  Harry's voice call out.

I knocked into another person who caught me. "Whoa, angry devil, where are you going?" The smirking jerk said.

I was in no mood to deal with Henry King. "Get out of my way, or deal with the consequences" I snapped.

He let me go, surprise crossing his face. "Sorry" I heard Harry say before he caught my wrist.

He spun me around and I glared at him. "What do you want, Harry!" I exclaimed.

"Shelby, please don't do anything stupid" he whispered.

I liked Harry, he was the calmer guy of the group. He always made sure I was having a good time and I didn't feel left out. But right now, he was giving me the opposite effect. "Stay away from me! You're all the same!" I snapped, pushing the guitarist away.

He stumbled back and I stormed away again. I wanted to punch something.
I made it to class and I sat in the back, lowering myself onto my seat and sliding all the way down.

The class began to fill out and the musicians walked in, their eyes searching for me. I scowled at them. They moved towards me but I shook my head. Conner rolled his eyes and kept waking towards me while the others froze. "Look Matthew's a dick, but not all of us are like that, some of us actually like hanging around you so grow the fuck up" he said, slumping in the seat next to me.

Harry moved to the chair in front while Wes sat next to him. "We've got your back Shels" Harry said.

I looked down at my desk and felt Conner tense up next to me. Glancing upwards, I saw Matt walk in. He looked around before spotting us. "That bastard" Harry snapped.

Matt walked towards us, a smile on his face. "Hey guys, where did you go?" he asked.

I looked back down at my desk as no one answered him. "What's wrong?" Matthew asked immediately.

"How could you!" Harry snapped.

"What?"

"You're a selfish bastard you know that" Conner said as I closed my eyes.

Tears began to fall down my cheeks. "What did I do?" Matthew asked confused.

I couldn't take it anymore, I stood up and ran out. Matthew had driven me to school so I had no way home other than to walk it.

So I walked it. Cars passed by and I kept my eyes on my feet as they continued in the direction of my house. But I knew he'd be there. He lived across the road and there was no escaping him there. I pulled my jacket tighter as time passed. Finally making it to my street, I looked down the empty road.

It was a miserable day to match my miserable mood. Mist surrounded the houses, covering it to look almost scary. Black clouds circled the town, threatening rain.

And to make my mood even worse. It started to rain.
I stood there, letting my body shiver from the cold water, my hair flopping in my face. My phone rang, I didn't answer it.

I turned on my heel and headed to the surrounded forest that edged the estate we lived in. I walked to the only place I knew he would never think of.

I didn't know how long I sat on the edge of the river bank, my legs crossed and jacket tight as I hugged myself for warmth. I was under a huge canopy so hardly any water fell on me but I kept my eyes on the soothing droplets hitting the rushing water.

"Shelby!" I heard someone yell.

I looked up. Even here wasn't safe. A flashlight looked through the rain. I pulled out my phone, realizing it was waterlogged and broken. "Shelby!" the panicked voice yelled again.

The flashlight froze on me as I blinked and Matthw walked closer. "You remembered?" I asked.

"Of course I did, c'mon I have to get you home, your mother is worried sick" Matthew said, bending down in front of me.

He helped me stand but I took a step back. "You were kissing her" I yelled out over the rain.

He had the grace to look ashamed. "I know, and I'm sorry" he replied.

He was sopping wet, his clothes clung to him and his hair plastered to his forehead.
"Why? Was everything we had just a game to you? I thought we were getting somewhere" I said, taking another step back.

"We were Shelby, but I got scared.. I got scared because you mean so much to me and I only know how to ruin people, I fell back to my old self" he said, his hands moving as he spoke.

I pulled my jacket together still. My body was drenched. "Matthew, you didn't have to be afraid, there was no need, you hurt me.. again.. when you promised you wouldn't" I said loudly.

Matthew stepped closer. "Shelby, let's go home" he said holding out his hand.

I hesitated but my hand outstretched to his. In that moment, my foot slipped on the creek bed and I fell backwards into the freezing water. I sank below the surface and I kicked upwards.

Water filled my lungs as I broke the surface.
"Shelby!" I heard Matthew scream.

Because of the rain, the creek was flowing rapidly downstream. My jacket kept pulling me under as I tried to swim against the current. I kept hearing my name but it was getting fainter and fainter.. like I was running away.

Once again, my jacket pulled me under and my head hit something hard.

Everything went black.
