FOUR

My hand squeezed my bottle tight as Matthew and his band took the stage once again. Matt held his hands up, quieting the rooting crowd. "I want to thank you all for coming out to see us again, your support really brings us hope and love and we would like to give that back to you, we've started a YouTube page so please find us under The Kings Music and make sure your subscribe to us" Matt said, flashing the crowd a dazzling smile.

I looked around and saw everyone pull out their phones. I rolled my eyes. "This song goes out to a special someone in the crowd" Matt said.

I glanced back at the stage where I saw Courtney smile at her friends and flatten her hair. "This person means a lot to me, got me through some tough times and I want them to know that I hadn't forgotten them" Matthew said as Courtney's smile faded.

Alana glanced at me as I stabbed daggers at Matthew with my eyes. "Shelby McGraw, this one's for you" Matt said giving me a look.

Everyone turned to look at me and I crossed my arms, my cheeks burning.
"Brown hair, those lips, say close to me, my hand, your hips, hold tight to me. C'mon and teach it all again, gotta love what your wearing. Young love, late night, don't ever leave" he sang.

Alana gasped and I slammed my bottle on the table loud enough to leave a scratch. Courtney's glared at me over her shoulder as Matthew dived into the chorus.
He was publicly ridiculing me.

I grabbed my purse. "Don't leave!" Alana said, grabbing my hand quickly.

I looked at her.

"You kiss my cheek, come close to me, your hands, and my hand, hold tight to me. Gotcha feet up on the dash, your head laying on my shoulder, young love, late night, I'll never leave"

Making my mind up, I turned away from the stage and from my friend and fought my way through the crowd. Everyone was dancing so I was pushed back and forth but I broke through the crowd as the song finished. Everyone erupted into cheers as I pushed the doors open and fell into the cool night air.

"What a jerk, I hate him!" I exclaimed as I walked away from the café.

"Who do you hate?" A voice asked.
His voice.

I turned around and saw him holding a bottle of beer in his hand as he stepped off the curb to walk closer to me. "How dare you!" I exclaimed as he neared me.

"How dare I what? What did I do wrong?" He asked shrugging his shoulders.

I gasped. "You are an insensitive asshole!" I exclaimed.

Matthew just rolled his eyes. "I sang a song, I wrote it for you when we were still friends, big deal" he said, taking a swig of his beer.

I had to squash down the urge to knock the bottle out of his hand.

"You called me out in front of everyone there because they all know that we aren't friends anymore, you saw to that!" I spat.

Matthew's face changed dramatically. "Maybe I was trying to show you that I wanted to be friends again" he snapped back.

"Oh yeah? I believe only I get to make that decision because you pushed me away and you need to earn my forgivenes! Not the other way around!" I exclaimed.

Matthew neared me and I let my emotions pour out. I hit him in the chest and he didn't even flinch. "Little boys in glass houses, shouldn't throw stones!" I yelled.

Matthew stayed quiet as I pushed away from him and started walking away. I took deep measured breaths and glanced over my shoulder to see him staring after me.

I pulled out my phone and called for an uber. I stared out the glass window as the driver took me home. My body was trembling from the cold and the cold fury that wracked through me.

I was beyond pissed.

I thanked the driver and got out, walking up the steps to my door when car lights swept across my driveway. I looked up from shoving the key into the keyhole to see my brother and Alana get out of the car.
"Why did you leave?" Chris asked as he rounded the car.

I didn't answer, just shook my head.

"Was this about the song?" Alana asked.

I just looked at her and felt my eyes well up. "Oh babe" she said coming closer.

She pulled me into a hug while Chris opened the front door. He flicked on all the lights as Alana led me into my own room. "Talk to me" she said gently.

I wiped at my eyes. "How could he do that? How could someone be so selfish?" I asked, as fresh tears dripped from my eyes.

"Boys are dumb" she said, brushing away a few stray tears.

"What you went through with him was horrible and nothing a friend should ever have to deal with, what he did tonight was wrong, he was trying to do the right thing, he just went the wrong way about it.." she trailed off.

She hugged me again. "C'mon Shelby, it's just Matthew being Matthew, you got through months of ignorance and cold shoulders from him and I'm sure you can get through this" she said, pulling me into another hug.

"He makes it sound like it's all my fault we're not friends anymore, like he's totally forgotten that I was there for him during his parents death but he pushed me away" I exclaimed as I hugged Alana.

"Oh babe, he's a boy, they'll blame everybody but themselves" she said.

I lent my head on her shoulder, wiping at my red eyes. "And now he's won, he made me fucking cry over him" I said, coughing.

Alana patted my shoulder. "I say we make that jerk pay, make him know he's missing out" she said, her hand rubbing my shoulder.

Suddenly I got an idea. "Alana! You're a genius!" I exclaimed.

"I am? I mean, yeah I know that" she said shrugging.

"Shelby McGraw is a shy book nerd, but not anymore, no this time she's going hardcore" I said glancing at my friend.

Her eyes widened. "Are you saying what I think you're saying? You want to go bitch mode?" She asked as her hands clapped together.

"Alana, it's about time I get a new look" I said glancing at my best fend and making her squeal.

A/N

Oh no. This might end terribly.
Who thinks this is going to end terribly?

Shelby wants to go bitch mode?
I wonder what that truly means?

What did Matt mean about the song?

So many questions, so little answers!
