Sabrina left a strangled cry at the scene in front of her. It was Adam, her Adam, the one she had not seen for ten years. He was lying on the hospital bed with tubes attached to his body. His hair was thinner than the last time she had seen him and bluish shadows were covering his under eyes. His lips were pale and he looked ghastly. He was fast asleep but when she whispered his name, immediately he opened his eyes.

"Bree. Is that you Bree?" He whispered, unable to decipher whether the scene infront of him was real or just a figment of his imaginations.

"Yes Adam. I'm here," she whispered with tears running down her cheeks.

Julia had called her. Through all this years, she had become a close friend of his. She had called her and delivered a heartbreaking news to her.

Adam was sick. He had been sick for years. And now there was no hope left. It was his time to go from this cruel world which gave nothing but pain

"What are you doing here?" He asked

"I...I'm here to see you."

"Did you...did you forgive me yet?"

She brought her hands to muffle her sobs as he asked her that.

"Yes Adam. You have suffered enough. I forgive you...I forgive you for everything you did. Just don't go. Please"

A ghost of a smile crossed his face

"I've stayed long enough"

"No it's not fair. I've missed out all these years. Why didn't you call me Adam? Why did you never contact me? You were my bestfriend Adam."

"I didn't want to see you," he replied, completely shattering her heart.

"Oh. I...I'm sorry I'm here then." She really was. She didn't want his last days to be filled with unwanted pain.

"No Bree. I wanted to see you but at the same time, I didnt. I didn't want to see you because I couldn't bear to see you, and remember every feeling I ever had. I couldn't see you and bear to watch you leave again. I could never see you and not have you being mine."

She cried more at his words. All these years, he was suffering. And on the other hand she lived a happy life, forgetting about him.

"I'm here now Adam. No matter what you want"

He smiled at her statement. He missed her. He held out his hand and motioned for her to come lay beside her. And she did without any complain

As soon as her head touched his chest, she remembered every other time they had lain like that. She hugged his chest and covered her face as she couldn't stop her crying

"Bree," he crocked

But she didn't respond. She couldn't

"Look at me Bree. Please. I'm sorry I never contacted you. I miss you sweetheart. Please look at me. Let me see you"

And she did look at him after that. She looked up to stare at his beautiful face. Even if he was sick, he still looked handsome to her. Using her hand, she traced his features, wanting to memorize him forever. Wanting to never forget him.

Adam stopped her by holding her hand and bringing it to his lips to place a kiss on her palm. He then turned her hand and stared at the ring on her finger. Her wedding ring

"Do you love him?" He questioned, with no anger or jealousy in his words

"Yes"

"Does he keep you happy?"

"He does"

"I'm glad. I'm happy that he gave you everything I couldn't. You deserve the world Bree and you got that with him. And with your children"

It was true. She did get everything with Draco. But there was still a void. A void which could only be filled by Adam

"But what about you? Did you get your happiness"

"Knowing you were happy was more than enough for me. Even if that meant I was not part of your life"

She placed her head back on his chest as he said that. Life was not fair to them both. But atleast she had gotten her happiness at the end. But what about him

"Bree. Talk to me Bree. I want to hear you. Let your voice be the last thing I remember before I am gone."

"This is not fair. You can't just go"

"This is for the best. I can finally see my baby girl. And I can finally meet dad."

She didn't respond to that.

"Talk to me Bree. Keep talking. Tell me everything"

And this time she did. She talked and talked about everything. About their childhood, about all the moments they had spent together.

She talked about love and loss and years of silence, words unsaid and vows unspoken, and all the spaces between her heart and his; and when she was done, she looked at him. His eyes were closed and a peaceful smile lingered in his face, while her eyes were filled with tears.

She leaned towards him, and when her lips were close to his, she whispered,

"Tell Hope that I love her. And if there is a life after this, let me meet you in it, Adam Black"

He opened his eyes then, to stare into hers. And then he spoke the words that his heart always knew

"I love you Bree"

------

Adam passed away a week later. Sabrina had been with him the entire week, trying to be with him as much as she could.

He was buried besides Hope and his funeral had been one of the painful days of her life.

It never stopped hurting, remembering when Adam had died. Draco was there, her children were there, but nothing could soothe the agony she had felt. She would look at their pictures every night as she cried, remembering him,her first love.

With time, she became numb to the pain and she learned to live with it. She learned to remember the good moments when she thought about him and she learned to smile as his name crossed her mind

She told her children stories about her bestfriend, about the time they had spent together, about all their shenanigans

Although he was gone, he was always alive in her memories. And he would always be there, for as long she lived.

Because she loved him, and she would always do
