Adam's pov

As soon as Sabrina clasped around my body, I momentarily froze. Partly because, I didn't expect this even in my wildest imaginations. And partly because, I just stood there reminiscing all the other times she hugged me before. The times she used to hug me for comfort, the times when she used to hug me out of gratefulness. And the times she used to hug me simply because she loved me.

She soon realised what she had done, as she unwrapped herself from my body and moved away from me. And as soon as she did that, I found myself missing the warmth of her body. But I wouldn't dare say it out aloud.

Her gaze was gentle, as she looked towards my direction and spoke, for the first time in 8 months, with happiness lacing her voice. And what she said warmed my heart. It was just a simple 'thank you'. But somehow , it meant much much more.

Last night when I was sitting beside her, while she was busy conversing with Jay, I could feel the misery in her tone. Her eyes were red and puffy as she was on the brink of tears, and somehow that sight affected me more than it should.

And when she looked towards my direction, with that accusatory glare, uttering the words which were a complete lie, I felt a shooting pain in my heart.

Yes Jay. I am happy. Very very happy.

She wasn't. She wasn't happy. I made sure of that.

But somehow it still hurt me to see her hurting. It hurt to see her puffy eyes filled with tear, her expression filled with pain, even though I planned to fill her life with more misery.

And I will. Nothing could stop that. It was inevitable. She would be punished

But still, I found myself longing to give her happiness, even if it would only last momentarily. I wanted to relieve her burden for a while.

I knew what I wanted was not right, but what else could I do? I was already on the brink of sanity. And if giving her a tiny bit of happiness kept me sane, then so be it.

And because of all this I arranged a trip to her old house. And somehow I felt an extreme exhilarating joy seeing her happy.

Sabrina's pov

Remember how I said I was never a big fan on surprises. Well right now, I would say I don't necessarily mind them.

Afterall, how could I? I had recieved the most wonderful surprise in a while. I was in the passenger seat of a car Adam was driving, and I was on the way to finally meet my brother after eight long months of wait and struggle.

I know I should've been sceptical about Adam's announcement. Afterall, how could I trust him after everything he had done to me? But somehow at that moment I did not care. I did not care if this was another one of Adam's malignant ploy. Because even if there was a one percent possibility of me meeting my brother, I was ready to take that. It didn't matter what I would have to pay for it later on.

I looked out of the window and noticed the scenery changing infront of me. I recognised all the familiar roads through which it had been ages since I travelled. It warmed my heart to know that I was finally going to meet someone who does not hate me, who does not accuse me of things that I did not do.

Suddenly a thought popped into my mind. Jay turned fourteen yesterday, and I was so foolish that I forgot to get him a present on the way.

Instantaneously I turned my gaze towards Adam. I did not know whether I should vocalise my thoughts or not. Adam has been more generous to me than his usual self today. I did not want to push my luck by asking him for anything more.

But I had to. And so I did,

"A..Adam," I called out

He hummed in response encouraging me to move forward with my demand.

"Can we...like you know, stop somewhere."

"Stop where"

"I mean... I forgot to get Jay a present and I want to give him something. Look, it's been ages since we met and we barely talk nowadays. And yesterday was his birthday and...," I kept rambling on when he interrupted,

"Slow down. Don't worry about it. I already bought a present for him."

My expression changed into a shocked one as I looked towards him when he said those words. He really did that? For me?

I immediately looked away from him as my eyes became moist. A storm of emotions was going through my mind and I did not know how to react. I knew Adam's care was fickle. It wouldn't take him a moment to change his behaviour towards me. But still my heart hurt as I saw glimpses of the old Adam within him. The Adam that I yearned for. The Adam who is now dead.

I didn't know why was he giving me so many mixed signals. Hasn't my poor heart already suffered enough? Why does he want to hurt it more by giving me a momentary lapse of joy only to seize it after?

My ponderings halted as we stopped infront of a small shop, a bakery to be exact. Weren't we supposed to go meet Jay? Why did we stop here?

"Go on," Adam spoke

I deviated my attention towards him as he said that and raised my brow in question. Go where?

"I'll be waiting in the car. Go buy any cake you want for Jay."

My brows furrowed as he said that. Did Sun rise from the west instead of east today? His behaviour was really confusing me. Why was he being so nice to me?

"Are you sure," I asked

"Yes I am Br...Sabrina. Go"

"Uh...okay," I spoke gently as I opened the car door and walked towards the bakery leaving Adam behind.

Slowly, I pushed on the bakery door with a little force and it moved giving me an entrance.

As I walked inside, the heavenly smell of freshly baked bread ensnared my senses as I walked ahead to come face to face with a old lady with blonde hair which matched mine. Her eyes were the same shade like mine and she directed a gentle smile towards me. Her smile was warm and I felt something foreign in my heart, a warm feeling which I never got from my mother, as soon as I saw her smile. She was probably the baker here.

"Hello child. What are you looking for?"

I responded with a small smile as I spoke, " Hello. I was looking to buy a cake. It's my brother's birthday and I would like to know if there is something already prepared as I am on the way to meet him."

"Oh well. I just baked a blackforest cake before a while. I will pack it for you if you would like that."

"Oh sure. That would be lovely."

She smiled and left my side to go pack the cake. I awkwardly stood there looking from here and there, waiting for her to come back so that I could leave quickly to meet Jay.

She returned soon after and handed me the cake. And while doing so, she asked,

"You know. You look so much like my daughter."

"Oh is it?"

"Yes. She is around your age. She was such a ball of sunshine. I barely see her nowadays. She is always so busy with work. Before she used to always hang out with me when I used to go to work. I was a professor before and she used to always go to the university with me," she spoke with a sad smile on her face.

"I am sure she will come around more when she will have time," I spoke trying to lighten the tension.

"Oh well. Even if she doesn't, atleast I saw you today. You know, at first I thought you were my daughter walking in."

By the way she spoke, I could easily make out that she loved her daughter. Alot

I suddenly found myself being jealous of her daughter. How lucky she must be to have a mother who loves her so much.

"Do you mind if I asked you your name."

"Oh. That's totally okay. I am Sabrina"

"Sabrina. Such a beautiful name. Come around more often. By the glow in your face, I can tell the next time we meet you won't be alone."

I smiled and nodded, even though I did not know what she meant by me not being along. Anyways , I knew for a fact this was the first and last time I was going to meet her. Although Adam has been generous today, he won't be the same after a while. I was sure of that. So I didn't bother giving a second thought to that

With that, I walked out of the bakery with a gentle smile returning back to where Adam was waiting for me. It was time to go home.
