-Laura's POV-

Surprisingly I slept really well after the party. I guess I could thank all those hours of work because I knew otherwise I would have been up most of the night.

Chris. Chris freakin Compton kissed me.

I pushed him off me but it still happened. To make it worse, I felt stupid, romantic sparks when his lips touched mine. That crap only existed in movies. I didn't want to feel anything. Why was my body betraying me?

This wasn't like 'The Notebook' where she never heard from him for 7 years but all of a sudden he kisses her and everything is okay again. No, no, no. I was not going to be a bad cliché. I respected and cared for my boyfriend way too much.

Will was an amazing person. He deserved love and loyalty. I was not going to mess up the great thing we had between each other.

Will was my long term. I could see myself marrying him one day. I couldn't do that with Chris. I couldn't imagine what it would be like. Chris was emotionally unstable. We'd end up fighting all the time and most likely breaking up. He wasn't worth the heartache.

"Laura!"

I nestled closer into my blankets to hide from my approaching visitor. I knew it was Demi. She sounded really determined as she swung open my door and called out my name again.

"Whaaattt?" It was too early for this.

"Dude," she said jumping on my bed. "What happened to you last night? That game was major intense with you and Chris."

Demi was like an annoying fly. There was no way to get rid of her until she got what she wanted. I got up and rested against the headboard. She was eagerly waiting for me to continue like a puppy waiting for a treat.

"Come on woman, spill. The last thing I saw was Chris walking out the door after you."

I trusted Demi and the fact that she already knew about my twisted relationship with Chris was the driving factor to an explanation.

"He wants me back."

Demi rolled her eyes like it was old news. "That much was obvious. He'd apparently die for you."

"Then why didn't he call? I just don't understand. What does he really want?"

Last night he said it wasn't sex. Why couldn't I believe that?

"Wait, he never gave you a reason why he didn't?"

I shook my head. He had plenty of opportunities.

Demi moved in closer, getting ready to defend Chris. She was all for Team Chris. I never understood why either. I mean wouldn't you think she'd hate him after I told her all the things he had done to me.

"I don't know but maybe you should hear him out. You owe yourself that."

What kind of excuse was good enough?

"Laura, no wait." She frowned, taking in my expression. "I know that look on your face. Don't judge him just yet. Give him a chance to explain."

"What's the point? I'm with Will now. I won't jeopardize my pretty perfect relationship for some sick fling. Chris isn't serious."

"Do you still have feeling for him?"

I wouldn't even call them feelings. He made me feel something but I wasn't sure if it was healthy. Chris was dangerous. I wasn't willing to bet my heart on him. He hadn't proven anything to me. He wasn't worth the risk.

"What feelings did I have before? He treated me like a cheap whore Demi. Why? Because I made his cousin cry. He's sick and demented."

She surveyed every inch of my face. "You didn't answer the question."

"No." I responded coldly.

She studied my expression like a science project. I hated when she did that. "What did he do to you last night?"

God, how did she pick up on that? Should I tell her and boost the Chris ratings?

"He kissed me."

Demi's eyes bulged out of her sockets but she eventually recovered. "How was it?"

"What do you mean? I pushed him off me."

"Where there sparks, fireworks?" She was enjoying this too much.

She was acting like I had some hidden deep feelings of love for Chris.

I decided to be truly honest with her. Maybe she did see something I was trying to deny myself. Plus she was technically my personal therapist. She knew pretty much everything about me.

"There were sparks but that was about it."

"Do you think that was it because you wouldn't allow yourself to indulge? Not just because you have a boyfriend. I think you're scared to give Chris that much power over you."

Tell me something I didn't already know. Did Chris deserve to have my heart?

"Wouldn't you be too?"

"I know Will is a wonderful guy and he treats you like...like...a princess but don't you owe it to yourself to find out what Chris has to offer. I think he's crazy about you; the way he looked at you last night. I don't think anyone else caught on but I couldn't look away. That boy is in love with you."

She had to be kidding me. I threw back my head and had a good laugh. There was no possible way Chris Compton was in love with me.

"Good one."

She threw a pillow at me. "I am so serious. He is just in denial like you are. You guys are too freaking stubborn to see it."

"I don't love him. We are so wrong for each other. We'll kill each other."

She snorted. "But that's the best part. You guys will thrive on that because you both are so much alike. You guys need it to live. You need each other."

I didn't know Demi was such a hopeless romantic. And when did I become such a realist?

"I'm getting a headache. I don't want to talk about this anymore."

But I knew better than to think she'd let it go.

"At least then you won't have what ifs. This thing with Chris isn't something you can toss to the side."

I hated when she was right; her stupid words of wisdom. Maybe I needed closure.

My door swung open and my mother came in. "Laura- oh Demi you're here. It's good to see you. Laura can you do me a favor and grocery shop for me today. Please."

Why not? Maybe it will distract me. "Sure."

"I'll go with you." Demi volunteered.

I knew she was itching to pick up the conversation. Surprisingly she didn't mention anything about Chris again while we were cruising down the grocery aisles.

"Laura Brown," a sultry man's voice said in an exotic British accent.

Demi and I turned to find Dr. Callister standing all tall and gorgeous with his dimpled smile. I think we both melted at the sounds of his voice.

"Dr. Callister funny seeing you here."

I only called him Doctor to tease him. Daniel Callister was Will's best friend. They were in college together and treated each other like brothers.

"Usually I get my maid to do the shopping."

"Aww fired another one. You poor thing." We both laughed.

His eyes shot towards Demi and his smile widened. "I'm taking applications."

I shook my head and played the game for her. "Oh no. Demi's gonna need your girlfriend application. She can't clean worth shit."

"Demi," he extenuated her name promiscuously. "I can definitely arrange that but she doesn't even need to apply. How about you be my date tonight for the hospital's ball?"

I told Demi about it a week ago. I had to go to this huge, elegant, and extravagant ball with Will. He was going to receive an award tonight. All the local doctors were attending but some were also flying in. Apparently it was a big deal. I was going to support my boyfriend but I hated dressing up.

"What's in it for me?"

Ewe, she was playing hard to get. That was my girl. Daniel hated the typical easy girls. He'd occasionally express to Will and I how tired he was of one night stands and clingy gold diggers. Demi, to me, was perfect for him.

"Great food, exquisite dancing, and eye candy all night."

"You drive a hard bargain." She tapped her chin and pretended to distract herself with things on the shelf like she might not say yes.

I knew she would. She was crushing hard. Daniel was the kind of guy you fell in love with at first sight. Not only was he gorgeous but he was a suave talker.

"It's more like you'll be doing me an enormous favor. I'll get to show of the most beautiful woman and make my colleagues jealous."

Hahahahaha, yes. There's the smooth talker. Demi was hopeless from the start.

"What time?" Demi gave in like I knew she would.

"Give me your number and I'll send you the details."

She did exactly that and before he left he kissed her hand like a gentleman for the olden days.

"It was a pleasure to meet you." He finished his smooching. "I'll see you tonight Laura."

Daniel gave us one last heart breaking smile. Demi was in a daze so I snapped my fingers in front of her love-struck face.

"Demi, are you in there?"

She shook her head rapidly. "Did that just happen?"

"Yup." I think I had the same reaction when I first met him.

"So let me get this straight; you got Mchottie but there's also a Mcsexy in that hospital too. I seriously got to become a nurse."

I pulled her along. "Why do that when you can become one of their wives?"

"Oh my gosh. What am I supposed to wear to this thing?" She was panicking but I already thought of the solution.

"Remember Ashley Hale's wedding two years ago? You should wear your bridesmaid dress."

Demi grinned to my proposal. "The slutty but elegant backless black dress I never thought I'd wear again?"

"That's the one." She looked smocking hot in that dress. Demi was pretty stick thin except for her decently plump booty; the backless dress worked for her mosquito titty figure.
