Thalia Lively

My alarm clock rang obnoxiously and I woke up groaning at the light piercing into my eyes, coming from the open curtained windows.

"Wake up, bedhead." Nonna pulled my blankets off of me and I sat glaring at her back, this is not how I like waking up. I hated waking up under any and all circumstances but there are some good ways to wake up— this was the worst way. The forceful way.

"Nonna." I whined, wanting my warm blankets back. It was freezing in this house.

"Don't you 'Nonna' me." She mocked me. "Common wake up, I made you breakfast and you need to get ready for school." She neatly folding my extra blankets as she talked. She set them on my bed and walked over, kissing my forehead before making her way downstairs.

I checked my phone as it vibrated on my nightstand.

Riles
I'm not coming to school today, dentist appointment.

Thalia
Oh great, leave me alone at my new school where you're the only person I talk to.

Riles
AHAHAHAA SORRY, it's not my choice to go though! You think I want to have some guy's hands all up in my mouth?

Thalia
I'm kidding, have fun with that. I need to get ready for school, I'll call you later.

Riles
Ha sucker, you have to go to that hellhole. Okay sorry, bye!

I threw my phone somewhere on my bed and got up tiredly, rubbing my eyes. I don't have enough energy to do anything at the moment, I feel like death. I looked at the clock quickly as I scanned my room, having my eyes snap right back to the clock once I realized the time.

8:20am

I have about fifteen minutes to get ready, eat and then drive to school that was five minutes away. I have five minutes to get ready and only five minutes to eat my breakfast.

Now I only have three minutes to get ready. I just wasted time sitting here like an idiot, looking at the clock as if time would rewind magically.

I ran into my closet and grabbed whatever clothes were in front of me, not caring if it didn't match because my whole closet was mostly all black, white and grey. It has to match regardless.

"Fuck," I cursed as I spilled some toothpaste on the counter. I brushed my teeth faster than Usain Bolt ran at the Olympics. That's a lie.

Quickly washing my face after I finished brushing aggressively and grabbing my phone, I ran down the stairs grabbing my bag along the way. Nonna was sitting on the couch sipping her morning tea, watching the news contently.

As if she had all the time in the world to do whatever she pleased, which is half true. She does have all the time in her life to do as she pleases and doesn't have to worry about arriving to school late and being the centre of attention as the whole class judges you.

"Nonna, why didn't you wake up me earlier?" I asked trying to stuff my face with the scrabbled eggs she made for me.

"I tried, you wouldn't wake up." She explained, getting up and walking over to the kitchen island that I sat at, chugging down my glass of water. "Did you make your bed?" She asked with her hand on her hip.

"Thank you for making me breakfast." I kissed her cheek, disregarding her question as I finished my plate and drink. I sprinted towards the door and took my car keys from the hook. I really was not trying to be that student that enters the class late because then all the eyes would be on me, and that's exactly what I'm trying to avoid during this whole year.

And, I also wanted to leave as quickly as possible so Nonna doesn't kill me for not making my bed.

I stepped out of the house, then ran back in.

As I stepped back in, Nonna stood there holding up my jacket.

"You're a blessing." I said taking it and then running back out into the harsh weather.

• • •

I breathed heavily as I made it to the main hall, I had one minute till the bell rang and I was almost flying past people who were standing in the hall. So much for not being the centre of attention, the few people in the hall were already looking at me weirdly as I was the girl that was running to class.

I cut the corner and then hit what felt like a wall. I landed right on my ass and cursed repeatedly.

"Who the fuck put a wall there?" I said as I looked up and then cursed at myself in my head as I saw that it was indeed, not a wall.

Not a wall, just a Nathan.

"We have to stop meeting like this." I said and grabbed onto his hand that he lent to me, in order to help me up.

The bell rang and I groaned loudly, now becoming annoyed.

"At least you don't have food covering your shirt this time." He said humorously.

"Uh, yeah." I replied looking down embarrassed since I probably looked like a freak sprinting in the halls and then cursing at walls that didn't exist.

"I have to go to class." I said slowly, becoming awkward. I then started to walk to my class lazily that was three doors away. I stopped in front of my class and looked at him since he didn't move from his spot. He looked at a wall thoughtfully and before he could catch me staring, I entered the class.

Ms.Nelson my first period, english teacher looked at me unpleased.

"Sorry." I mouthed as students were reading their first term books, she nodded and I made my way to the middle row, last seat right beside the window.

It was only ten minutes when someone else barged into the class but this time, not as gracefully as I did since I was aware of the silence needed.

Nathan looked at the teacher who stood up, clearly bothered by him disrupting her class. He stared back unblinkingly.

"Nathan." She said tauntingly.

"Jessica." He replied with a straight face.

The people around me gasped loudly and some covering their mouths trying to prevent their laughter from coming out. They stared at Nathan somewhat worried for him when Ms.Nelson's eyes widen incredibly. She opened her mouth then closed it again, not sure if she wanted to make a scene and yell or to handle the situation calmly, just as Nathan was currently doing.

"You don't get to call me by my first name, Nathan, you know that." She remained calm but you could see it in her eyes that she was angry.

She was a teacher of silence and respect, I had learned that on my first couple days here. He just broke both of her rules that she stood by. Interrupting her silence and I guess somewhat disrespecting her by calling her by her first name.

Wait, what was he doing here in the first place?

"Firstly, you never show up to my class and your mark is being greatly impacted. I'm grateful you've finally decided to join us but please refrain from barging in like that and calling me by my first name." She spit out, forcing herself to handle this correctly.

Oh, that's what he was doing here.

"Sure thing, Jess—Ms.Nelson." He nodded at her and walked straight to the chair beside mine, plumping himself down on the seat, boredom etched onto his face.

I refrained from looking at him but I could feel his gaze on me as I tried not to laugh when Ms.Nelson started pacing around trying to calm herself. She was a short— like crazy short — sixty and some year old caucasian woman. It was funny seeing her get all riled up just from Nathan's presence.

I tried to return my focus onto the book in my hand that needed to be read and then read all over again so I could be ready for the first term exam in the english department. He averted his attention out of the window and I noticed he didn't have his bag with him or anything.

"Your bag?" I questioned him and his eyes were brought down to my face.

"Don't need it. I already read the book enough times." He replied looking at the old book in my hands.

"You openly just read this horridly boring book on your free time?" I asked amused and his lips were brought up into a small smile as he chuckled.

"Oh yeah, obviously." He joked, looking back at Ms.Nelson and scrunched his eyebrows together as she started talking to herself quietly.

"Let's leave." He said, coming to a conclusion abruptly.

"What?" I replied, what does he mean leave?

"I mean, let's leave. In about two minutes she's going to sit down and fall asleep." He watched her but talked to me in quiet tone.

"How do you know that?" I asked, also watching her to see if his statement was true. She was biting her nails at this point and glaring at walls.

"I just know, look." He said nodding at her and I looked at his face for a quick second since his attention was on her. He smiled suddenly when Ms.Nelson sat down and put her head in her hands.

He had dimples, how come I didn't notice that before? I looked at them in awe, I was a sucker for dimples. But he wouldn't know that so I quickly looked at Ms.Nelson, who was slowly drifting, just like he had said.

"I'm not so sure I want to risk getting caught skipping, I take my education quite seriously." I said and he pursed his lips, slowly nodding.

"Well would you rather sit here in this room that smells like perfume and unbrushed teeth mixed together, just to spend the whole class reading that book or do you want to continue reading that book out in the café drinking a milkshake." He asked, knowing full well that I want to chose the latter. I promised Nonna to pay all my focus and attention on school. I was a bit hesitant because even if she never finds out about me skipping, I'll still feel bad for not listening.

"Live a little, sleeping beauty." He said, paying attention to my tired eyes and I remembered that I probably looked like I slept in a garbage bin.

I got uncomfortable at the 'live a little' comment but he didn't catch it, or so I hoped.

I chuckled lightly and nodded. "Fine."

He smirked and got up, slowly walking to the door and opening it slowly. The rest of the class didn't even see me leaving with him, they were too busy making notes about the book. Something I should also being doing, but no, I want a milkshake more.

We got out successfully and he led me out of the school by the exit closest to the parking lot.

"You're paying for my milkshake." I stated, if he was going to take me away from class than he can pay for the milkshake he used as an excuse to get me to come along.

"Yeah, yeah. I owe you a milkshake anyway from last so get in." He says, already in his car. I didn't even notice the car but as I went to get in I gasped and started to freak out.

"This is your car?" I asked, looking at the matte black Ranger Rover Evoque in adoration. "How the hell did you get this? Where did you find it? I swear they don't have the matte black one anywhere and it's insanely expensive." I rambled, getting in fully now and looking at my second dream car.

"I customized it and re-built most of it." He replied, a bit taken back that I knew the car and he could probably tell how I was so in love with it.

"Wow." Was all I could say.

"Okay weirdo, lets go already." He said, starting up the car and driving out of the school parking lot and towards the café that Riley showed me on my first day of school.

"Are you sure this is your car?"

"Positive."

"How positive."

"Extremely positive."

"On a scale from—" I was cut off as we arrived and he stopped the car, taking the key out and getting out of it without a second thought. Out of nowhere my door flew up and he stood there, holding it open for me.

"It's my car, Thalia." He chuckled, shaking his head.

{ probably was edited horribly. probably. }

Was this short? I can't even tell when my chapters are long or short. But I hope you liked it, I wanted to make this chapter to show the two interacting a bit more and getting to know each other better, by the way the next chapter will be a Thalia and Nathan chapter with a hint of Ethan and Austin. I feel this is a good place to start off their friendship since it's seven chapters deep and they've already encountered each other SO WHY NOT JUST GET INTO IT.

Again, another thank you to everyone who read my mess of a book and gave me heart warming feedback, I'm over the moon I swear. All the comments and love shown really does motivate me to continue which is why I'm going to write the next chapter like right now.

JUST

SO MUCH OKAY
