"Sorry! I won't be able to–"

"Kou–shi! I said it was alright, you called me several times today to apologize for the same reason! I'm not upset just because you're coming home late," you sighed over the phone, "work's important. I'll be waiting for you at home."

"You don't have to wait for me, I'm not sure what time I'll be done with the conferences.."

"It's alright it's a Friday anyways, I can wait."

"Okay, wait for me," he smiled after hanging up the phone.

Today was "teacher parent conference day". The rather grueling process most teachers have to endure to discuss about their student's performance in school with their parents.

Sugawara was still quite new to the job but his patience was unfaltering when it came to strict parents.

"Just one more to go," Sugawara yawned after the previous meeting left his room, "I still have five minutes to spare.. They don't seem to be here yet either."

He rested his chin against his desk and a mini polaroid picture caught his eyes. It was a picture that you and him took last year on your anniversary. It hasn't even been that long and it's not like you were on the other side of the world, but he couldn't help but to feel a little homesick.

He quickly texted you before another meeting had entered the room, "Welcome! Thank you for coming!"

"The pleasure is mine, sorry that you had to stay so late for this," the mother of his student bowed respectfully before sitting down beside her child, "so how's this little brat doing in this class. There's no need to hold back."

The kid pouted and crossed his arms childishly. Suga couldn't help but laugh at their reaction, it reminded him of you whenever you had your silly tantrums.

"There's no need to worry about that, they've been a joy to have in my class. They're quite the energetic type. So far, they've been participating in class and doing their homework."

"Elementary huh, I don't think I have to patience to teach a bunch of rascals," she laughed while poking at her child playfully, "but out of all the teachers they've had you're their favorite. You're young too!"

"Thanks, I've definitely had experience," he laughed, remembering all the times he had to handle his underclassmen when he was at Karasuno.

'I could just hear Tanaka and Nishinoya right now,' he thought.

Sugawara went through the of the rest of the meeting without much trouble at all, "okay! I think that's all. Just continue to work hard and take care of yourself as well!"

"Thank you so much for having us! Alright kiddo, we should head home soon you're father is waiting," She ruffled their hair, "my husband is waiting for us at home, it's always nice to come home to someone you love after a long day."

"You're right," he replied softly. The sight of the doting mother and their child tugged on his heart strings a bit.

Sometimes he'd dream about having a child with you. His heart was already so full, but he still longed for a future where you'd still be by his side. Was that being selfish?

"How about you? Do you live by yourself?" The woman asked.

"Oh, no someone is waiting for me at home too," Sugawara replied as he tidied up the space around him.

"Oh! You're married?"

"A-ah! That's not it! We're just in a relationship at the moment!" Sugawara face flushed.

"I'm sorry! I just assumed! Well, either way, I'm sure you don't want to keep them waiting!" The mother apologized, "I know this isn't any of my business, but are you... thinking about proposing?"

"W-well, yeah. A lot actually , it's just kind of nerve wracking," He admitted.

"I think they might just be the one," she smiled as she held her kids hand, "It's okay to be selfish when it comes to love, unless you plan to share them. Trust your gut! Okay, we're off!"

Sugawara bid them farewell and quickly packed his things to head home. It was odd, he missed you a lot more than usual and the 'usual' was already hard enough to endure.

Unlocking the front door, he removed his shoes and hung his coat. He returned much later than he anticipated so he had assumed you were already in bed.

"Tadaima.." He mumbled.

"Okaeri," You greeted him briefly before returning to the kitchen, "I made some mapo tofu, let's eat together."

There it was again, that familiar burst of warmth that spread throughout his chest. He dragged his feet towards the kitchen and wrapped his arms around your waist from behind. Nuzzling his head into the crook of your neck, he closed his eyes, "home... I'm home.. (F/n)."

You huffed while bringing your arm up to run your fingers through his soft hair, "long day?Aren't you hungry?"

"You didn't eat yet?"

"Well, no, food always tastes better when you're not alone," you stated shyly. You turned around and returned his embrace, "you okay?"

"Yeah, I'm happy, thank you."

"Hey Kou?"

"Hm?"

"I'm ravenous. I love cuddling, and I love you, but I'm just going to press pause on this moment and you better promise me that we'll continue this later."

"Alright alright, I promise," he chuckled, giving you a quick kiss on the forehead.
