Jimmy's house in the image above.

~

After being released from the hospital I didn't know where to start. I hadn't heard from Harper, which in my mind meant that she was still thinking over our night together and what it had meant, I know I was, for I hadn't had anytime at all to reflect on it. She had stopped by the night before, but that didn't mean anything at this moment. And I personally didn't know what to think.

My sister on the other hand, had this whole opinion on what she thought about Harper and I had to tell her to shut up. That woman was so self absorbed and lathered in luxury it wasn't funny. She didn't know what the word work meant. But Harper did. My sister had been under this silk blanket sense the day she was born, and I knew she didn't want to come out from under it.

With a sigh and an on coming head ache I dropped her off with a forced smile at the hotel I booked her a room at. Thank you God she would be leaving in a few days.

Heading my way back to my own hotel sweet, I got myself ready for the day with a hot shower. Coffee. And cuff links.

Snapping them into place I looked onward into the mirror. The well put man I knew myself as was back and ready for work. Eyes set like stone, hair combed back. The only differences were the bandages that were hidden under my suit. But as my eyes gazed into the mirror they landed on the sheets that hadn't been used sense that night I spent with Harper.

I couldn't get it out of my head.

And why the hell not?

I was getting angry at myself thinking that one time would be enough. It had always been enough. But not with her. Harper had skin kissed by the sun. Strawberry curls that smelt of roses and honey. Eyes that could see right into the soul.

I wanted to punch a wall for my insane thoughts.

I would be gone in a matter of weeks. Back to Detroit were my life was. My friends and Family. I couldn't find time for a relationship.

But as I looked at the bed again, I knew. I knew it wouldn't be the last time.

Pulling up into the drive of Jimmy's house I shifted gears and parked. Everything that had come up had to be discussed. And even with my injury I couldn't slow down. And I wouldn't let the man know how much pain I was truly in. It would only give him the advantage.

Jimmy was a snake from what I could see, and his house spoke volumes. Having been the first time I had seen it I could tell he had slithered his way up to get such a place. Green grass, a fountain in front. It was in perfect condition for such an old place. And way to large of a place for just one man. Being under house arrest must not be to much of a big deal for him as it was.

The white pillars and doors I took a moment to look at, for their beauty were timeless. But I couldn't stair at the mans house all day, and I couldn't ask how he managed to get such a place. I was hear for work. And work I would.

Knocking I heard someone say they would be there in a moment. It was a famine voice, a high giggle in tacked with it, and my curiosity spiked after a few minuets of standing there.

This was just rude.

I knocked again.

"Jimmy, its Caleb T. Mondragon. I need to speak with you if you please." Making sure that I said it load enough, I was able to mask my annoyance.

Within seconds the door was open to a smiling Jimmy, and in the background I could see a young burnett scrambling for her cloths and running from the front foyer.

"Why, Caleb, what a surprise. I didn't know you made house calls?" His joking manner made it easy to move forward and pat his arm in welcome as he did to me. I ignored the woman as she sneaked past me like she had never been there.

"I just got the autopsy report yesterday and to ask you some questions. I need to get everything put together before your hearing at the end of the month."

"Hearing?" He brought me in through to the kitchen and grabbed two water bottles out of his fridge. Handing me one I went on.

"They have scheduled a hearing now. Olivia was murdered, Jimmy. This was not suicide." I waited for a reaction. A reaction of which I didn't expect. He just nodded and put down his water. All humor gone he sat down and looked off into space. Not one single word.

No tears.

Nothing.

Jimmy truly was a hard man to figure out. But judging from what I had seen walking in, it didn't seem to bother him. He was a ladies man. A hard core sex addict. Olivia was just another one of his conquests, that he happened to have Peyton with.

"The mother of your daughter was murdered, Jimmy. Don't you have something to say to that?"

"Why would I." He didn't look at me, or elaborate. He just ran his fingers over the lid of the bottle. "Are you a detective now too? Or am I still good to bring you in with me to questioning?" His question surprised me.

"I'm hear to defend you Jimmy. Why, have the officers showed up already?" He nodded and turned his gaze onto me.

"And speaking of officers, Caleb, how are you?"

"I'm good. Thank you." I felt like my welcome was no longer there, the tension growing.

"I meant, your side. How are your injuries healing?" My body froze.

"How do you know about my injury Jimmy?" I kept my calm and eased into the chair across from him."

"I know a lot of people Caleb. Luis told me." Luis. The name of the man that caused it dripped with meaning as I heard it. He had been a friend of Jimmies? He was a friend to the slim.

Avoiding the turn of conversation I turned back to the list of questions I had and listed them all with answers and reactions. When we were done, I stud, thanked him and made my way out.

"Oh! And Caleb?" I turned to see his eyes on me. "Tell Harper I said hi."

"Will do." With a forced smile I made my way out to my car.

Once inside I felt like I could breath again. The man had destruction seeping from his veins and wasn't going to take it. He had an eye on me at all times. Even as his attorney he didn't trust me and the things I did. It was clear with the way he spoke with me. It was no longer business, so I knew what I had to do.

With the regrets behind me I drove to the station.

And dropped my paper work, along with the case.
