Chapter 5

The next day was June 27, 2023 On Tuesday morning, my mother reported the incident and provided a statement to the police station.  We received updates about my father's condition later that day, stating he was on a life support system. According to what Mom and I have been told, he passed out two to three times before they even got to the hospital. When Mom heard that he was dependent on a life-supporting machine, she started to pray.

I was at school that day, trying to process everything so that I could do my exam peacefully. After finishing my exam, I came out of the exam, receiving missed calls from my sister, Monique. I called her back, and she said, “Tea, Mom said you should hurry and come home.” I replied, “Okay.”. At that time, I was in Ms. Morgan's classroom, and I told her tha I  had to leave to go home right now. She hugged me and told me to be safe. I smiled at her and said, Okay, I will.

While on my way home, these flashbacks were just haunting me.

I have never witnessed my mother pray in such a way.

My mom, Monique, Travis, and I were standing outside until mom got the call saying that my father probably wouldn’t make it because of the amount of blood he lost. When mom heard the news, I saw her go inside, but I never knew that it was her room she was heading to.

Afterwards, my mother went into her room and closed the door. She started to pray. ‘I heard her praying to God while I was passing her room. While she was in her room, she prayed like there’s no tomorrow; she declared life over my dad even though what he had done was wrong, but still she had mercy on him and forgave him.

While my dad was in the hospital, still on a life support machine, his side of the family started sending out threats to mom and me, saying, “If he's dead, they are going to come and kill whom they should kill” and all of that.

When I'd heard all of that, I started to pray in my mind, and then I received messages from Jade saying,

“I know you can't have your phone at this moment; I just want you to know that everything is going to be alright. Trust in the Lord with all of your heart and lean on your own understanding. So do not fear what is happening now, ‘'cause God is high and slow, and continue to trust in God. God bless you, my child.”

I read the message but didn’t reply.

A couple minutes have passed.

I hear mom’s phone ringing. Mom answers, "Hello.”

The person replied, “He is awake. But still on the life-support machine.”

"Okay, thanks,” Mom replied

Then suddenly, I hear Mom being happy and joyful, saying that my dad isn’t dead.

“THANK YUH JESUS''!!!!!!!!  Mom shouted.

Monique, Travis and I heard mom shout, and we quickly went to mom and asked

“Mom, what is it?”

Mom shared, “Him nuh dead!”

We all start to thank God because during those times the fretting, worrying and threats, I whispered, “thank God.”

Everyone felt a sense of relief.

"The bottle isn't yours."
