After we were all able to settle down, I found the courage to ask them a question that'd been poking at the back of my head since I spotted Yellow Diamond.

"What are the Diamonds like?" I inquired, sitting with them on the grass as we all breathed in the clear air of the barn.

Peridot was the first to spark with interest, her eyes quickly focusing on me.

"They are marvelous!" She exclaimed. "Though, they are all quite strict and would most likely punish you for confronting them. . ." She gulped at those words, once more thinking back on her encounter with Yellow Diamond. "They do not, under any circumstances, tolerate imperfection."

Her words made my thoughts drift back to the memory of how White felt Gems would consider me imperfect – she must've noticed my reaction to that earlier statement, for I saw her smile turn into a frown.

"D- Did I say something wrong?" She asked, looking towards the other Gems for assistance.

"No, you didn't. . ." I intervened. "I was just thinking about something, is all."

Even though White saw none in me, the word imperfection still resonated within me.

Somehow, my attack back on Homeworld had proved to the others I was a reason to raise concern. They said it was my fault for escaping and wanting to see what my planet was like – Otherwise, I wouldn't have been attacked.

I was caught off guard by it, though I could recall strolling around Homeworld, just to get a glimpse of the enormous city and how other Gems lived their lives.

A voice was what stood out to me, followed by their silhouette appearing in front of me - their appearance unknown to me as they hid from my line of sight. Though they labeled me as a corrupt Gem, imperfect was the word they used. This was in the midst of when Black Pearl was just getting assigned to me, though I had not met her yet, but something else went on during that.

I remember I'd heard a faint cracking noise.

Somewhere, while I was being attacked, a Gem had been injured as well, the sound of them 'poofing' catching my hearing.

Still, everything was a blurry at that time – until White arrived to the area to deal with the other Gem. Her fury is why most Gems did everything they could to stay in her good graces.

She took them away from me, making sure they were sent out to be punished for the damage they caused over me.

Afterwards, she made me stay near here while she dealt with another matter, claiming she had seek the other Gem that'd been poofed while I was being attacked.

"You would be a great fit to protect my little Night. . ." She spoke, her voice faint to my hearing. "You only need to be stronger – You cannot protect her if you are to poof as easily as you did. Right now. . . She could've used your assistance! If you were stronger, perhaps this wouldn't've happened to her!"

Her anger was brewing down to a slow simmer, with the etched relief evident in her voice – recalling me as she checked my gemstone for any damage.

I'd been so disoriented during that ordeal, I tried to get my focus on who else was there, though - reluctantly - I passed out, my physical form exhausted, yet brain still conscious.

It seemed, even with the attack I received, it did not stop me from overhearing the conversation the two had together.

I could then hear her talk with another Gem, having apparently finished with scolding the one that had poofed.

"Yes, My Diamond. . . It would be an honor to protect Lady Night."

The voice sounded opposite to hers – it was a deep, rich masculine voice that made me relax, the tension I felt slowly fading away, though a part of me still felt on edge.

"Then you must go prepare a place for her to stay." She continued. "Now that she has been attacked, I cannot have her roaming freely here. They do not trust her due to her shade - you must be aware of that yourself - so I will order you go prepare the necessary steps to ensure her safety."

I could hear her footsteps, the sound of her taking something in her hand and tapping it with her finger following afterwards.

"As for you. . ." She muttered, dry anger returning to her voice. "I tested you to see how strong enough you were, but you still failed me. . . I certainly hope that on our next training session, you do not disappoint me and my little Night again - Or else, I will make sure you never regenerate again."

"(Y/N). . .?"

Steven's voice called out to me.

I lifted my gaze to meet his before turning to him and Peridot, who was worried - though I gave her a smile to assure her everything was alright.

I could feel my Pearl's gaze on me, as well. She showed her own concern, since I did not speak for a good minute, having lost myself in the past.

"Sorry about that. . . I just had a faint memory of something."

I was not going to go into the details of that just yet, since I needed to figure out what happened to give me a real grasp of that situation.

"But, Peridot. . . You've nothing to worry about." I added, smiling. "You are not at fault for this - I was simply thinking about something else."

I needed to figure out what happened to those two Gems as well as of my attacker, though everything from that incident was a still hazy, so I couldn't exactly recall much.

Still, I felt I had time to figure this out. My status stayed hidden that day, which made me feel like being forgotten would've been better than treated like an outcast.

A myth is all I was to other gems, though I was finally free here on Earth with the rebel Gems and Black Pearl – I felt this was the moment where I would finally get to learn about another race. It was all very exciting to me, causing my mood to perk back up.
