After what seemed to be thousands of Earth rotations, the silence and loneliness that composed the Moon Base were interrupted by the doors opening, in arriving the Crystal Gems and what appeared to be a Peridot.

Aware of my vulnerability as well as of my Pearl's, I tried my best to form a protective shield around our bubbles, though that only resulted in me exhausting myself more than necessary.

I was aware it was impossible for me to use my powers without my physical form, yet the sudden feeling of danger made me want to try it nonetheless.

As if on cue to my attempt at shielding us both, the group began to approach the main control desk of the base, the Peridot taking charge of the operation by inputting some codes and opening what appeared to be a blueprint of sorts, yet my poor visibility from where I was floating at made me unable to decipher what those were for.

The four other gems accompanying her held uncomfortable poses – almost as if what the Peridot was showing to them was something they were not in favour of.

Sensing my Pearl wanted to have a word with me, I decided to forget about the intruders for the time being and instead focus on her.

"Is everything alright, friend?"

The word had slipped. Though I saw her as indeed just that, I tried to avoid calling her that too much, aware that White Diamond would most likely chastise me for being too lenient and intimate with my Pearl.

"I am fine, my Diamond." Pearl assured, though her tone betrayed her words.

It seemed she was just as worried as I was.

"They will not hurt us." I tried to console, knowing I was treading on dangerous grounds with my words. "White Diamond knew what was best for us. She would not send us here if it were a threat to our safety."

Even as I said those words, I felt myself doubting them.

Since White first sent me here, I had begun to question more the reasons for her actions. As years continued to go by, I was beginning to think of other reasons beyond her wanting to keep me safe.

Though, the thought of her betraying me seemed almost impossible to me.

"They do not seem calm. . ." Pearl muttered, her voice faint as a hint of fear made itself present in her tone. "They seem. . . angry at the Peridot."

Alerted by her words, I looked back to the gems interfering with the Moon Base's data, coming across the group standing in a much more tense posture than before.

Something was wrong, yet I could not determine what it was.

The group seemed to bicker about something, but my hearing could only go so far – I was already using most of my limited abilities to hear my Pearl speak.

"Is there something on your mind, my Diamond?"

I tried to remain calm, my panicked thoughts being leveled by her question.

"Though I am not certain. . ." I trailed off, feeling as if I were losing connection with Pearl.

Not wanting for that to happen, I regained my focus and tried to gather some strength once more, being able to communicate with her again after two attempts.

"I think they do not seem alerted by our presence – I do not think they have noticed us yet."

I could feel a hint of relief emanate from her bubble.

"Perhaps we should keep a low profile for the time being." I advised. "Even though they only seem mad at the Peridot, we do not know if they could pose as a threat to us just yet."

"I understand." She replied, her tone less stressed now. "Should we keep observing them, then?"

I replied to her final question with a yes, proceeding to focus my attention on the infiltrators afterwards.
