[spooks and a scaredy cat]

Kang Hyewon was most definitely sure that the death grip around her arm was going to bruise anytime soon. She wasn't even sure how she got into this situation, all she knew was that she lost a stupid bet and she was dared to get into the god-forsaken, pathetic 'haunted house' alone.

It wasn't even that scary, to be frank, it was just machines popping out from wall to wall as she progressed through the whole thing. She wasn't one to get scared that easily.

The only problem is that it was too effin' dark she could barely see.

..And the stranger who was clinging to her like her whole life depended on it was seriously going to damage her eardrums.

"Hey," Hyewon quietly called out, her voice echoing through the dark walls of the area. She felt the girl beside her tensing, her grip tightening.

Holy fuck, that hurts. She gathered all her will power not to punch a girl who was an inch shorter than her, because she was sure as all hell her wrist's turning blue. She would normally scream her concern out there in the open, possibly cause a ruckus and walk out and go to her room for some peace.

However, she didn't know why she had not detached her arm from this stranger just yet.

It might have been the smell of freshly-picked strawberries wafting through her nose whenever this girl came close to her.

"What?" The stranger's voice responded, hoarse and shaky.

Ugh, this is so stupid. She really was scared. Hyewon couldn't help but feel slightly guilty for thinking the girl wasn't someone who wasn't just scared out of her mind. Biting her lip, she spoke more gentler this time as she gently shook her arm, indicating the grip the girl has around her, "You're kind of cutting the circulation of my blood here. Could you maybe loose the grip a wee bit?"

The girl did loosen the grip but not even two seconds after doing that, a machine with a bloodied teeth wolf mask came popping out at one of the walls followed by a loud howl and then the girl tightened her hold yet again.

This time, her nails dug deep and yep, this is going to bruise, Hyewon thought. She winced at the sensation as the girl leaned her whole weight on her.

"Oh my Irene, please get MinMin out of here now...!" The girl was speaking in a weird, sort of squeaky frantic voice. Oddly, Hyewon found it endearing.

Wait, what?

Okay, Hyewon grumbled in her mind, I know I watch a lot of anime, but that doesn't mean I find her voice that... that cute. No, not at all.

But, for real, it is kind of cute.

And she spoke in third person. Hyewon internally gagged at how she also found that quite endearing.

She shook her head free of these weird thoughts and shoved a fake-looking spider web as they proceeded to enter a dark entry way, she frowned at it, "You... do know that this is fake, right?"

The girl scoffed, but there wasn't a bite in her tone, "That doesn't make it any less scarier!"

Hyewon bit her lip to keep herself from smiling. When her eyes scanned the area and spotted something, she halted her steps and the girl immediately tensed at this.

"Nya, w-why are we stopping?"

Nya? Oh, no, it's those cliche anime girl tropes. Exactly my weakness.

Hyewon quickly disregarded the thought the moment it came popping in her head and casually pointed at a wall, "You see those blood splatters on the wall?"

"I don't know, Minmin has her eyes shut and she doesn't wanna see it, can she and Miss Stranger please proceed now?" The girl said all in one breath.

Hyewon tried to tame the amusement in her tone, and put on her usual unreadable, innocent face, "Aish, come on, just open your eyes."

The girl sighed as she warily let her eyes fall open, and Hyewon watched her.

She noticed for the first time that the girl had straight jet-black hair, it was kind of hard to see considering the poor lighting around them but it seemed to shine out of all everything around her, as if a halo was being casted above her.

Yah, what was that? I got sappy for a whole minute.

"Okay... now what?"

Hyewon swiped a finger at the 'blood' and brought it to her nose, the smell of chocolate immediately wafting her senses. Figures. She said, "It's Hershey's with food coloring, you scaredy cat."

The younger scrunched her nose and shook her head a couple of times, her eyes tightly shut as she whined, "Minmin won't ever look at chocolates the same way ever again!" She turned her head to face Hyewon, but quickly turned away when she realized she was face to face with her. She blushed a crimson red, "A-And... Nya!! I am definitely not a scaredy cat! At least, I-I don't think I am."

"You totally are," Hyewon smirked, wiping the fake blood at the back of her jeans, "But hey, it's not so scary when you know the secret to it. So stop your whining."

"Meanie," The girl's lips pressed into a cute little pout. She huffed and tightened her hold on Hyewon yet again, to which the latter rolled her eyes at, but then hid her amused smile with a scowl. She lowkey felt like a tsundere doing that.

Curse her otaku mind giving her these gay ideas.

They continue their journey in silence and the girl's shrieking has reduced to occasional little yelps, thankfully.

They were halfway through the house when it dawned on the older that she didn't know anything about the girl who was going leave a huge mark (quite literally) on her.

Seriously, the girl has a strong grip.

"So," Hyewon began, her voice soft, careful not to startle the girl again, "seeing as we're going to be in here for the next two minutes, we might as well get to know each other."

The girl blinked a couple of times at her, long eyelashes batting, to which Hyewon only swallowed at, as she found it so adorable. She looked so pure, and she just wanted to pinch her cheeks and tell her exactly that.

"Two minutes? How'd you know that?"

Hyewon snapped out of her mini gay trance, and replied with a hushed voice, "I've been in this town my whole life, they do this everytime they open this carnival, and I'm just here because I lost to a bet," She shook her head at the absurdity of it all, scoffing, "it's kind of getting old, so I know my way around here basically. Lucky you."

"Nyaa!!" The girl said, fists in front of her while her eyes shined, and her lips curving into a smile of like a cat, "Minmin is glad she found Miss Stranger! She's also glad Miss Stranger lost the bet~"

"Yah," Hyewon fought the urge to smile at the girl, having a hunch what she planned to say next.

The girl grinned into her fists, her eyes flashing a mischievous glint. "If Miss Stranger had not lost the bet, Minmin wouldn't know what she'd do!!  Miss Stranger is quite a catch as well, Minmin's so lucky, indeed~"

Just a minute ago she was doing her best to appear cute, then she attempted to flirt the next. Seriously, what's with her?

"You're so weird," The older girl could only chuckle, "well, I'm Hyewon."

"I'm Minju, but I'd like it if you called me Minmin," She smiled up at Hyewon with her beautiful brown eyes, not daring to lean away when Hyewon met her gaze and their faces were almost an inch apart, "... and Minmin is here because of her stupid friends who decided that a good 'welcome back greeting' was to leave her in this scary, scary haunted house."

"You're not from here?" Hyewon quietly asked.

"Technically, I am. I just left for two years to study abroad but now I'm back and will be continuing here!"

"What year are you? And you have this weird... uhm, little... voice. Not to mention, your narration's in third person, too."

"I'm a 3rd year and I'll be attending ENOZI High School," Minju was silent for a moment, as if pondering if she's going to add something. "...Is Minmin's voice really that bad?"

No way. Hyewon was almost tempted to shout 'Me too!' but she kept her lips zipped.

Mostly because she was curious as to what would the younger's reaction would be once she sees her in class. And, let's face it, it was not like they were going to be friends. Minju seemed like the type who would get along better with a lot of social butterflies like her, specifically the type of friends who braid each other's hair and has a new color of nail polish every other week. Hyewon wasn't all in for that, especially socializing.

They were definite opposites. It was impossible for them to get along.

"It's not bad, just unique," and cute and pure and very attractive. You know, kinda like you. She then gestured to the growing light in front of them, "and there's our exit."

Minju sighed almost dramatically, "Oh, thank Irene."

Hyewon was momentarily blinded by the sudden brightness but once her eyes adjusted to the light, her gaze settled on the girl beside her who was fixing her hair.

Minju was wearing a white flowery dress that stopped just above her knees and a jean jacket to top the look off-- and wait, are those cat ears? Nevertheless, to say this clumsy weirdo is gorgeous was an understatement. She basically sparkled regardless in the dark or in the light.

She suddenly felt like a huge nerd with her ripped jeans and a One Piece hoodie that she'd literally thrown over her head earlier. She could've picked something more presentable as Minju, but she didn't really expect to be some kind of tour guide to someone with one hell of a death grip here now, did she?

Her unabashed staring was soon cut short by the shouts and hoots not far from the two of them.

Minju rolled her eyes as she straightened her dress, "Those are my friends."

Hyewon looked to where Minju was glaring at and hummed, "I think you should find better friends."

"I think so too," Minju replied just as jokingly.

"So, uhm," Hyewon held up her arm that was still trapped between Mari's tight grip, "can I please get my hand back now?"

Minju froze, as if she was struck by something. Immediately stepping back, she let Hyewon's hand drop from her grip. "Sorry," She murmured with what sounded like her normal voice while her cheeks glowed a light pink. And then she cleared her throat, voice squeaky again, "well! this has been an embarrassing experience!"

It doesn't look like she's embarrassed even a little bit. Hyewon shrugged playfully, "I don't know. It was kind of amusing for me."

Minju glared, but the small tug at the corner of her lips was betraying her, "I really hope I never see you again."

Hyewon let out a small grin, resting her palms at the back pockets of her jeans, "It's a small town."

"Minmin is grateful to meet you," Minju bumped her shoulder with hers when she passed the older before looking over her shoulder with the brightest and sweetest smile Hyewon has ever seen, "Hyewonnie~"

And with that, Minju turned around and walked away, giving Hyewon one last smile before being swarmed by her group of friends.

Hyewon walked back to her own friends and saw Yena and Yujin giving her a goofy grin and a thumbs up.

"Yow, Kwangbae, who was that?"

Instead of answering the duck, she groaned, "Don't ever make me go in there again next time this opens up."

Her two friends walked on either side of her, Yujin taking bigger steps than Yena and Hyewon, "Well, you looked a bit too distracted by something when you guys came out. Enlighten us, unnie."

Hyewon's eyes stared at the ground for a second then her gaze lifted up to the dark indigo sky, "Not really interesting, but let's just say a little kitty got lost on her way out."

This left the duck and the dog confused, but she paid no mind and went on her way back home with these two idiots, thoughts of the black-haired girl lingering in her mind for the rest of the night.

Minju, huh?

"Settle down, class, we have a new student joining our class today. Kim Minju-ssi, do come in."

Minju stepped into the classroom to introduce herself with the biggest smile, but her words got stuck in her throat when she laid eyes on a familiar girl.

A girl who was donning a lazy, obviously teasing grin on her face.

She flushed beet red as Hyewon's smile grew wider.

Minju's reaction was priceless and so, so worth the wait.

Gotcha, Kim Minju.
