Chapter seven: What is love? (Ellie's POV)

It was now Friday, the end of the week. We were all planning on going bowling tomorrow.

Since Tuesday, when Zach got all grumpy and bland before his soccer practice, he hasn't spoken to me.

"Oh, come on Ellie! Fall in love with someone! I'm sick and tired of seeing you single, come on. Please, please, please," Ashley whined while Mr. Prichard continued marking some assignments. We were given some work but Ashley and I were done so we were free to talk.

"Who do you want me to fall in love with? That's just not how this stuff works," I laughed while we kept our voices down.

"It truly isn't." We looked up from our seats to see Mr. Prichard eavesdropping. Ashley's desk was on Mr. Prichard's right and mine was on hers.

"Mr. Prichard is a wise man, Mr. Prichard, tell her why she should love someone," Ashley sighed, holding her chin in her palm.

"Oh, don't do it," he shook his head.

"Mr. Prichard," Ashley whined.

"Mr. Prichard, what is love? To you?" I questioned, actually interested in his opinion because he was a wise man. He was like the teacher students went to for advice, no joke.

"Couldn't tell you, sweetheart," he said while shuffling through papers.

"Would you say it's worth it?" I asked.

"With the right person, definitely," he nodded. The bell rang and everyone began heading out for lunch. "Good day, girls," he nodded before we left.

"Come on," Ashley pleaded while linking her arm with mine.

"I don't know about love," I said with uncertainty.

"Okay, forget about love, at least get a boyfriend. You deserve someone who treats you right, Ellie. You can deal with love when it comes to it." She waved her hand dismissively.

We entered the cafeteria and sat down at our table. I wasn't that hungry so I thought I'll grab a brownie or something towards the end of lunch and just eat it on the way to class.

"Okay, Ashley," I sighed in defeat, "I'll fall in love with someone," I chuckled.

"What are you guys talking about?" Brett asked while sitting beside me, flicking my hair.

"Falling in love," I answered.

"Falling in love?" Spencer asked while sitting.

"You love someone?" Nathan asked.

"No," I laughed, "Apparently I should be in love with somebody by now. So Ms. Belle here has suggested I find a boyfriend and fall in love," I laughed.

"Are you serious?" Spencer laughed.

"Sure am," Ashley nodded.

"It's kind of fascinating though," I shrugged nonchalantly.

"Your fascination with love is only temporary like everything else has always been with you," Zach said while sitting opposite me. He had been such an ass to me this entire week, acting like I don't even exist and like that conversation between us never even happened and I was sick of it.

"Actually, Zach, I'm looking for something serious. But you wouldn't know anything about that, now would you?" I cocked a brow at him while the others at the table all froze up and glanced between us.

"Guys," Brett cleared his throat.

"From the sounds of it, babe, you'd jump on the first guy you see, that's just how desperate you sound," he smirked. I scoffed. He's not one to talk about being desperate.

"I may sound desperate but at least I'm not having sex with every guy that walks by unlike you. You've only been here a week and the number of girls I've already seen you with..." I shook my head, exaggerating the disappointment I felt.

"This isn't about me though, now is it? It's about you. And about how you'd fall in love with the first guy you see," he scoffed.

What has gotten into him?

"That's bullshit and you know it," I rolled my eyes, ready for this conversation to come to its end.

"I can prove it."

I'd like to see how he does that. "Enlighten me," I smiled.

"You are so desperate for love right now, that you would fall in love with anyone. Even Brett."

"Hey!" Brett exclaimed.

"Fine," Zach rolled his eyes, "Even me," he shrugged.

"You? I'd rather fall in love with Brett," I scoffed.

Not that anything was wrong with Brett.

"Ouch," Brett whined, "Guys, I'm sitting right here you know," he mumbled.

"You'll fall in love with me and you know it," Zach said daringly.

"Is that a challenge?" I smirked.

We haven't been like this since we were competitive teens. It's like I'm thirteen all over again.

"Sure is. Let's make a bet," he leaned forward.

"Whoa, guys slow down," Spencer chuckled awkwardly.

While growing up, Zach and I would place bets and gamble for everything and it would get intense. He's a player. Mr. Casanova over here. Let's watch him play.

"If you can get a teacher to give you her number willingly, voluntarily, for any sexual reasons," I emphasized because he has a way of twisting and playing with words to fit him best.

"Then you come live with me for a month," he cut me off, "And if you win, then I'll leave you alone and you'll never be bothered by me again." He leaned back with a smug look on his face.

"Guys, don't be stupid, come on," Nathan huffed.

"A month?" I questioned.

"Ellie," Brett warned.

"And within that month, you'll be in love with me."

I doubt it.

I took a minute to contemplate.

"Scared, are we?" he smirked.

"Ellie, don't listen to him. Zach, shut up," Brett groaned.

"Please, I'm not scared," I scoffed.

"Ellie," Brett, Ashley, Spencer, and Nathan all said in sync.

"Listen to your friends," Zach smirked. I stayed quiet, observing him. He wasn't going to get a teacher's number to hook up. It's impossible. "Deal or no deal, babe? I don't have time to waste," he pressed further, adding more pressure.

"Ellie, don't do it," Brett huffed.

"Deal, asshole." I smiled as fakely as possible. The others all let out a sigh and facepalmed, holding their heads in their hands.

So dramatic.

"You might wanna pack your bags," he winked before standing up and looking around. His gaze landed on Mrs. George who was walking out of the cafeteria. "Mrs. George, wait up!" he called out. He jogged over to her and began talking. I could see his smirk, his cool expression, he was trying to charm her.

Ew.

He stopped talking and she was gaping at him. He tilted his head to the side, pulling a puppy face.

"Do you think she'll give it?" Ashley whispered from beside me.

"Hell no, she just got married, Ash," I chuckled.

Mrs. George gasped before smacking Zach across the face.

"Oh, shit!" Brett spoke from beside me. My hand flew to my mouth and I let out a snort.

Is that allowed? To hit a student? To be fair, he was trying to be a pervert.

She stormed off after threatening him by saying she will go to the office, stomping away in her pumps. I burst out laughing as soon as she walked out and was out of range. Zach stood there in shock, staring off into space. The bell rang and we all got up and gathered our things.

"Man, good fucking luck," Nathan patted Zach's shoulder before walking out with Spencer. Ashley gave me a smug look before walking out.

"I have nothing to say." Brett shrugged before throwing an arm around my shoulder.

"We have business, are you coming or would you perhaps like a moment to yourself?" I asked Zach.

"Okay then," Brett pulled his arm off and left for class before turning around and mouthing to me, 'you're dead.'

"I just think you should know, she got married about eight months ago," I said, just to get on his nerves more than I already had.

"You are so going to regret it," he warned.

We were sitting in class when Zach was called out to the office. Brett and I looked at each other while he left. "Elle, don't you think you guys are taking it too far already? He shouldn't be getting in trouble for that, he only did it for the bet," Brett whispered.

"Nobody told him to flirt with Ms. George," I shrugged while writing my notes.

"Ellie," Brett said.

I turned to him and read his knowing look. The one that said he knew he was right. I sighed in defeat before sticking my hand up.

"Yes, Ms. Hart?" she asked.

"May I be excused?" I requested.

"Why?" She lifted a brow at me.

So annoying.

"So I can go to the bathroom," I tilted my head to the side, trying to give her the message. She nodded and I left, heading for the office.

I can't believe I'm saving him from trouble when he brought this upon himself. I just suggested it.

God damn it, Zach!

Chapter six

Please just keep in mind that this is completely UNREALISTIC

A teacher would not slap a student, nor would it be allowed under any circumstance... but it's funny.

Next Chapter: Nostalgia

Sneak peek: Like I mentioned, the group is going bowling tomorrow and everyone seems to have forgotten about any grudges they were holding and for a moment, it's just like old times.
