Chapter thirty-nine: One day (Ellie's POV)

Chaos. All there is in my house is chaos. My parents are arguing, my mom is throwing things around, my dad is packing his things in boxes. I think we all kind of knew how this was going to turn out once my mom left my room.

My dad has always been this way. Work comes first, career comes first, money comes first. It's always been like that. I guess we just never thought he'd leave his family behind for it.

It's been a week since then and the arguing is still going. They both have been going to work, acting like nothing happened, ignoring each other every morning and when they both get, all hell breaks loose.

So I did what any sane person would do. I packed up and moved back into the apartment.

Zach was living with Brett full time. He had all his stuff moved in and everything. Brett's cousin that owned the apartment has just given it to him and decided to get another place when he comes back to town so the apartment is completely Brett's and Zach's.

They're both planning on getting jobs so they can pay the rent but let's just see how that goes. Zach landed himself a job at The Brew but I just can't picture him taking orders, or making coffee.

Barista Zach. Cute.

"I quit!"

I looked up from my spot on the couch as Zach walked in, throwing his hat off and throwing everything onto the counter.

"What?" I chuckled, putting the book down.

"I quit. I cannot stand there and take orders, I cannot make coffee for customers, what the hell is the point of cold brew anyway? Like why? I don't understand how baristas and waiters and waitresses work there. Couldn't be me. I quit!" he announced while collapsing on the spot beside me.

"So you're jobless?" I chuckled.

"No, I got a job at the bookstore. Doesn't pay much though, I've gotta find something else to do," he sighed.

"Any bright ideas?" I asked while running my hand through his hair.

"Garage town maybe, what do you think?" he asked.

"My boyfriend is gonna be a mechanic. Nice," I nodded.

"Sexy, right?" he smirked.

"Bet," I laughed.

"Oh, I missed you," he said while stretching his arms out, asking for a cuddle.

"You saw me this morning," I laughed while he pulled me into him.

"It's not enough," he mumbled against my lips before kissing me.

I chuckled before pulling away, "You smell like coffee," I stated.

"Really?" he asked sarcastically.

"Really," I nodded.

"I wonder why," he mumbled before kissing me again, only for the door to open and interrupt us.

"Hey," I nodded at Brett and Amy while sitting up.

They've been on a lot of dates by now and it's only been a week. They go for lunches and then spend the entire day together. They do dinner together, he drops her home every night apart from occasions when she stays here.

I never asked Brett about his feelings for me. It didn't seem necessary. He had moved on and found someone, that's all that mattered. And I was happy. I was the happiest.

Amy fits in well with our group. She had friends of her own, but she says she enjoys our company better. I'm not saying anything but I mean come on, we're the best people out there. She gets along with every single one of us and it feels nice having another girl in the group. More sleepovers for us anyway.

"We got take out," she sang while walking over and sitting down between Zach and me.

He sighed and gave her a blank look before pulling me over. I stood up and moved over before he pulled me down in his lap. "What'd you get?" I asked while opening the boxes, Zach's arms wrapped around me, his fingers dancing around my waist, tickling me faintly.

"Chinese, anyone who doesn't want it can cook for themselves," she said, already diving in.

"Are the others coming?" Zach asked Brett.

"On their way. I don't think we've got enough for all of us though," he mumbled with uncertainty. We didn't even bother waiting. We all dug in and about ten minutes later the doors opened. Luckily for them, they brought their own snacks and we managed to save some food for them.

"What are we playing?" Ashley asked, sitting in Nathan's lap. All of us were sitting in a circle around the coffee table, waiting for someone to pick a game.

"Man, I don't want to play games with you guys. Everything is suddenly about couples and love, I don't like this shit," Spencer whined. Poor Spencer. The only one still standing single.

"You went on a date yesterday, what happened?" Nathan asked.

"Don't ask. Just don't. Let's just play Monopoly or something," he huffed.

The entire night, we all stayed up watching movies, playing games, talking. Spencer was the first one to leave because, by the end of the movie, nobody was watching it. Everyone had someone to make out with.

Spencer had his ham and cheese sandwich. So he left.

After the movie, Nathan and Ashley did as well and that left the four of us.

"Are you staying tonight, Amy?" I asked.

"No, I can't. I have breakfast with my cousins tomorrow. Can't be late. Family drama," she sighed while standing up, leaving Brett pouting.

"Aw, little Brett doesn't want you to leave," Zach laughed.

Brett threw a pillow at him which almost hit me but Zach smacked it away. We said bye before Brett left with her to drop her home, leaving Zach and me alone in the apartment.

"We have the apartment to ourselves," he smirked.

"What about it?" I chuckled.

"We can mess up the apartment without getting in trouble. Wanna bake a cake?" he grinned.

"I don't understand what it is with you and cakes. Order one," I laughed.

"You seriously need to learn how to bake a cake. That way you can teach me then one day I'll be baking cake for our kids," he sighed, shaking his head.

"One day," I chuckled.

"I'm serious. We can have kids," he shrugged.

"Sure," I snorted. I can't take care of a kid. I love kids. I want kids. Doesn't mean I know what I'm doing. What kind of seventeen-year-old does? "We gotta get married first," I shrugged.

"What does marriage have to do with kids?" he questioned.

"I want to be married before I have kids. Don't you?" I asked.

"Yeah, but there's no relation. We don't have to get married," he shrugged while I stared at him in confusion, "We can make a baby right now. We're not married," he said.

I shook my head while laughing. He is unbelievable. "Was that your horrible way of suggesting we have sex?" I laughed.

"No, that was my horrible way of suggesting we make a baby," he shrugged once again.

"You are an idiot," I shook my head while trying to stand up but he pulled me back down.

"Where are you going?" he whined.

"To the room. I want my bed," I pouted.

"Your bed? Funny," he smirked while standing up and going to the room with me.

"This is my bed!" I huffed.

"Half of it," he corrected.

"All of it. What are you talking about? Your side is still my side," I stated.

"Only your side if yours." He gave me a pointed look.

"You're mine too. Hence, your side is my side," I grinned innocently.

"Oh, I'm yours now, huh?" he scoffed while lying down with me.

"Are you not?" I arched an eyebrow at him.

"Of course, I am," he replied before kissing me.

I smiled into the kiss before he pulled away and looked at me. "I love you," he said.

"I love you too," I replied while brushing his hair out of his eyes.

"I want kids with you," he mumbled.

"You want to have sex? Is that what you're saying?" I laughed.

"You just ruin the whole innocence of it. Strip it of its purity," he scoffed, shaking his head.

"Please, you aren't one to talk about purity," I rolled my eyes. He shook his head with a grin before placing kisses on my neck. "Zach," I whispered.

He lifted himself and looked at me, "Do you want me to stop?" he asked.

I shook my head before clearing my throat, "I want you.

He stared at me, seeming surprised in a good way. "Are you serious?" he asked, grinning now.

"Yeah," I chuckled.

"Really?" he asked while sitting up as I mirrored his actions.

"Yeah," I shrugged.

"Oh, my God, I love you," he mumbled.

"I know," I grinned.

He kissed me again, only breaking it to take his shirt off and mine. "Are you sure?" he asked, his hands going down to my waistband.

"Yeah, I'm sure," I nodded.
