Chapter twenty-six: Kiss and tell (Ellie's POV)

It was Friday. The whole week I thought, okay, I'll call Isaac today, tell him to meet me at The Brew, explain to him how we can't go out and everything will be fine. But NOPE. I had been prolonging this the whole week, and now I either had to tell him at school before his game, or I had to show up to that date only to ruin it.

I sighed while walking to the cafeteria, my arm link with Ashley's. "Are you okay? You've been moping around all day," she pointed out.

"Yeah, I'm fine," I lied.

Just fine.

"Isaac!" I called out as we neared the cafeteria.

He was heading out to the field with some of his friends when I called him. He walked over to me while I told Ashley I'll meet her there. "Hey, what's up?" he asked.

"Can I talk to you for a second?" I asked.

"Sure," he said. We stepped to the side and I sighed. What is wrong with me? I'm leaving a guy like Isaac for Zach?

Isaac is so nice to me, he's so understanding, he's great company, he's so kind... he just doesn't give me butterflies.

He's the nice guy. I don't want the nice guy.

Nice guys break your heart the worst, that's what James did anyway.

"I wanted to talk to you about tonight's date," I started.

"Do you wanna do it tomorrow? We could go to the party instead," he shrugged.

"No, I um- I don't wanna do it at all," I said while fidgeting with my hands.

"Oh," he said.

"I'm just a little confused and I don't uh- I don't wanna lead you on. I just thought it would be better if you hear it from me and you hear it now. Sooner is better than later. I am so, so sorry." I feel like shit.

"That's okay, I just- you're confused between me and someone else?" he asked. I nodded slowly. "You're confused between me and Zach, aren't you?" he asked knowingly.

"How did you..." I trailed off.

"It's kind of obvious. He likes you, you like him. It's all right, I get it," he shrugged.

"He doesn't like me," I chuckled, "But I don't want to lie to you and say that I don't like him. I just thought it's better, to be honest," I mumbled.

"Well, I appreciate your honesty. Friends?" he asked.

I nodded, "Friends."

I pulled my shoes on and rushed downstairs. Zach had to come back to the apartment with me, just so I had a ride to the game and I didn't want him to be late because of me so I rushed everything. We had to come back to get ready for the party anyway, I can pull myself together then. I got in the car with him and he drove off immediately.

"Good luck," I sighed.

"Thanks," he winked.

We won the game with five to two and everyone here was buzzing. It was like there was static in people like you would touch someone and get zapped. All of us rushed down the bleachers as soon as the game was over and ran straight to Brett and Zach.

"Congratulations!" I hugged Brett tightly. He laughed and I pulled away before I got crushed and turned to Zach. "You won," I arched an eyebrow at him.

"Is that bad?" he smirked down at me.

"In what world is that bad?" I laughed.

"I don't know," he shrugged before putting his arms out and pulling me into a hug.

"Oh, you're so sweaty," I groaned while pulling away.

"You're so annoying," he laughed while shaking his head before turning to Nathan and Spencer.

I looked around and spotted Isaac talking to some of his friends. I sent him a small wave when he looked my way and he smiled back at me before walking over. "Congratulations on the game," I said while hugging him.

"Thanks," he smiled.

"God, you're all sweaty," I mumbled. He laughed before someone called him over and he disappeared once again.

After that, we drove back to the apartment where we all got ready and then headed out for the party. As if the students don't already party hard enough, now that we've won, the booze will probably be doubled in everyone's systems. I don't plan on drinking much tonight, just a little.

We got there and as always, we all sort of split up and went our ways. I went into the kitchen and opened the fridge, hoping to find a can of coke. I found one and turned around, getting startled when I saw Zach. "Jesus," I mumbled while he grabbed a cup and handed it to me. I held it while he added some vodka to it, then took the can and poured it out.

"There," he said before opening the freezer and getting some ice. "You look good," he nodded at me.

"You think I look pretty?" I teased.

"I said you look good, not pretty," he smirked.

"You're such a dick," I shook my head while laughing. Everyone was called into the living room after thirty or so minutes. I had been talking to Zach in the kitchen this whole time while people danced and ran around.

"You do look pretty though," he winked before leading the way to the living room. I bit back a smile and followed him in where Ethan stood in the middle of the crowd.

"All right! We're playing kiss and tell!"

I'll tell you guys the rules just in case you don't know. Our crowd is twisted, just let me put that out there. A guy and a girl step up, toss a coin, the winners pick five, so if the guys win then five guys are picked who are all blindfolded one at a time. Five girls are chosen to kiss one boy each and the boy has to guess who kissed him. I didn't make the game or the rules. This lot did.

The game continues until the majority of people have either kissed someone or been kissed.

"One boy and one girl step up. Any volunteers?"

Like every time, Brett volunteered and our girl was Ashley. Ethan tossed the coin and Ashley got to call it. "Tails."

Who picks tails?

"It's heads. Boys, pick your first five," Ethan said, "Ladies, you do the same."

Ashley walked over and all the girls gathered on one side of the room. "Any volunteers?" she asked. Samantha, Beck, and Amy volunteered. We need to pick two girls now.

"Ashley should do it, she got to call the coin," someone said.

"Okay," she shrugged. "Ellie?" she turned to me.

"What?" I asked in confusion.

"You're up with us," Ash said.

"No, wait. I-"

"Okay, time's up! First boy up?" Brett stepped up first as everyone expected and Amy stepped up once he was blindfolded. I've heard that she likes him but I don't know.

Judging from that kiss, I'd say she does.

Samantha kissed Isaac, who guessed wrong, Ashley kissed Nathan, and Beck kissed Cameron, who also got it wrong. Because I'm going last, I have no choice but to kiss the guy who's left. But the guys don't know the five chosen girls, so they have to guess from every girl here. That leaves me with Zach.

"Anyone wanna trade?" I turned to the girls.

Nobody said one word. They all want Zach but when they can have him everyone just shuts up?

I rolled my eyes before cracking my knuckles out of nervousness. Isaac gave me a pointed look while I walked over there, shaking my hands as if I could throw the anxiety out of my body. He stood there, blindfolded with his arms by his sides.

He's so tall too, he's gonna have to lean down a bit, but I can't even tell him to do that.

"Fucking hell," I mumbled under my breath before I grabbed the back of his neck and pulled his lips down to mine. I would have left it at a peck if I didn't have everyone staring, and his arms at my waist telling me otherwise.

I kissed him long and hard because who knows? Maybe I'll never get to do it again.

I pulled away after a while and went and stood with the other girls once again. My heart was pounding against my ribcage, I could feel it in my throat while my breathing was a little heavy. That was not a kiss that should have been seen. That was a lot.

He stayed quiet for a minute, probably trying to take an accurate guess. He's not going to get it. Last time we kissed, it was not like this, and we were fifteen. He doesn't know how I kiss, he won't get it. And he'll never have to know it was me.

"That was Ellie."

I think I will pass out. Ashley was standing next to me and I quite literally lost my balance and grabbed onto her to keep myself standing. I turned to her and she looked at me knowingly, smirking at me.

He took the blindfold off and looked straight at me. "Am I right?"

Was I supposed to answer?

The other girls didn't have to. I turned to Ethan expectantly.

He was still staring at me.

"You're right."
