Chapter twenty-one: Walked into hell (Ellie's POV)

"I had fun, thank you for tonight," I smiled once I reached the apartment, he was nice enough to walk me up to the front door.

"Yeah, I had fun t-" he began talking but stopped when all you could hear was crashing and yelling from inside.

"They're probably playing some video games or something, I'll see you later," I said bye after that and rushed inside, locking the door behind me. I turned around and my eyes fell out of my head.

Chaos. There is no other way to describe this apartment right now.

Some of the plates and glasses were shattered on the floor, pillows were all around the couch on the floor, there was stuff just lying around and I could hear the yelling from Brett's room.

It was like I walked into hell.

I put my purse and phone down on the counter while slowly walking around some shards of glass and to the room that they were in.

"What are you talking about? You're making no sense right now! Me being back doesn't change anything!" Zach yelled.

"Of course, it does! It changes everything! Because you're back! And once you're here, there's no need for me," Brett laughed humorlessly.

"We are two different people, Brett. Who mean two different things to her. Just because I'm here doesn't mean you're not her friend anymore, it doesn't mean she doesn't need you anymore. She hates me most of the time, in case you forgot about that," Zach huffed.

"She hates you because she makes herself do it. She doesn't want to hate you, you know that," Brett replied, "It's only so long until-" He stopped talking when his eyes landed on me as I stood in the doorway, staring at them.

"What are you guys doing? What the hell happened to the apartment?" I breathed out while stepping into his room. At least nothing in here is shattered.

"You wanna tell her?" Zach scoffed.

"Zach," I glared. "What is going on?" I questioned. Neither of them were talking. "I need to talk to Brett," I stated.

"Of course, you do." Zach began walking to the door.

I grabbed his arm, "Zach, please." He pulled away from me and went into the other room, slamming the door behind him, making me jump and wince. "Right, explain," I demanded.

And then he did.

─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───

"You guys are crazy and stupid, you do know that, right? You had such a horrifying argument about who cares about me more, are you kidding? You guys fought and broke all that stuff because you disagreed on who I'd choose?! Why would I choose?! Brett, you are different from Zach, and he is different from you. You mean something completely different to me, and so does he!" I explained.

"Yeah, but it's just so unfair. He was gone for two entire years, he comes back and it's just like I never did anything for you, it's like I was only taking care of you because he was gone, and now that he's back I can't do that anymore," he shrugged.

"Of course, you can," I sighed, "Who do I go to when something goes wrong? Whose advice do I take? Who helps me annoy the shit out of him?" I asked, "Brett, it's you. You were here when he wasn't, nothing can change that."

He shook his head, "But he's different, isn't he?" he asked.

"He's a dick, so yeah," I nodded.

"But you and Zach are just you and Zach. That's not gonna change," he scoffed.

"And me and you, are me and you. We're Ellie and Brett, the two that make Zach want to pull his hair out. Tell me who cheers louder for you than I do at your games?" I didn't even let him answer, "That's right, nobody! Brett, you are just as important as Zach, it's just in a completely different way. And that's fine."

He looked up at me hesitantly, with a sheepish look on his face.

"Can you give me a fucking hug? I just gave that speech for you?" I scoffed.

He laughed before stepping forward and pulling me into a tight hug.

"Okay, not that tight," I mumbled.

He pulled away after a while and fell back on his bed. "I'm fine now," he shrugged.

"Yes, you are. Leaving me with Hurricane Zach, thank you," I said before going to handle the other one. I opened the door and he was sitting on the bed, scrolling through his phone. "Hello," I said while sitting beside his legs.

He didn't say anything, but he did kick me off. Literally.

"Don't be a dick," I pushed his legs away and sat back down. "What is wrong with you two? That's the most stupid argument I've ever heard, you know that, don't you?" I asked.

"Well, he started it," he shrugged.

"I don't care who started it, I'm disappointed that neither of you finished it," I gave him a pointed look, snatching his phone.

He sighed, "I was trying, Ellie, what else do you want me to say?" he sighed.

"Why did you get so upset?" I questioned.

"Because he talked as if it's my fault that he and you are drifting when you're not, and it's not my fault. Me being back doesn't change anything, we're each different to you," he scoffed while rolling his eyes.

"That's what I told him," I replied.

"And he listened?"

I nodded in response.

"Of course, he listens to you," he chuckled dryly.

"Maybe you should too," I suggested.

"I didn't do anything wrong."

Did I say that?

"I'm not saying you did, those words did not come out of my mouth. I'm saying, just listen to me, please," I sighed. He folded his arms across his chest and stared at me expectantly. "You both mean different things to me, you know that, right?" I asked.

"Yes, I know that. He's more important," he nodded.

"That's not what I said, don't put words in my mouth, Zach," I said sternly. He's like a child. "You are the first friend I ever made, right? You're the first boy I ever liked as well, whatever, you get what I'm saying, I've had a lot more chaos when it comes to you."

"You hated me, we get it," he rolled his eyes.

"Goodness me, that is not what I'm saying," I whined, kicking my legs around. "Brett was there when you weren't. But when you were here, we were everything. Does that make sense? We were the closest and apparently, I mattered a lot to you," I flicked my hair over my shoulder.

He shook his head and pushed me off the bed again.

"Oi!" I sat back down while laughing.

"Ellie, you should seriously know when to stop talking," he chuckled.

"Shut up," I rolled my eyes.

"What was I saying? Yeah, I mattered a lot to you," I shrugged while grinning, "And you mattered a lot to me too, that doesn't change. That's what I'm saying. Whether you leave, stay, come back, or never come back, you will always matter to me. In a way that Brett doesn't, and he will always matter to me in a way that you don't, because he was there when you weren't. Need I explain more? Because I think we get it, you liked me," I taunted further.

"Good God," he groaned into a pillow.

"Okay, I'm gonna stop with the teasing but you know what I'm saying, right? You are Zach, we will always be Zach and Ellie. It's just how it is, you're stuck with me. Forever," I shrugged.

He stared at me for a while before letting out a sigh, "Well, I wouldn't want to be stuck with anyone else forever, so..." he trailed off with a small shrug.

"Hmm, that's interesting, keeping in mind that you think I'm wasting my time with Isaac," I said while kicking my shoes off.

"That is not what I said," he huffed.

"Spencer told me, you know? He literally called me while I was out just to tell me that. You guys tortured him," I shook my head while laughing, crawling over him and onto my side of the bed. "So, why do you think I'm wasting my time with Isaac? You don't like him?" I asked, lying on my side so I was facing him.

"I do like him, just not for you," he replied.

"Why?" I thought out loud.

"I just don't think he would be able to remember all the little things there are to remember about you, I don't think he'd be able to satisfy you, I don't see you being happy with him. When have I ever seen you being happy with a guy though? It doesn't matter what I say." He waved his hand dismissively.

"Are you kidding? Of course, it matters what you say. I trust you, you know me best," I shrugged.

"You still trust me? After I left without warning?"

I sighed in defeat, "Unfortunately, yes. I do. And honestly, I probably always will. More than the others. So uh-yeah, I do trust you. Still."

Chapter twenty-one

Anyone want a first kiss anytime soon??? No???

Maybe.

I just felt like saying this so hear me out, I think it's so sad how funny I find myself. Like when I write funny moments in my books and I re-read them when I'm editing, I laugh. How sad is it that I find mine and my characters' humor so funny, like is that normal?

Anyway
