This story is set in an alternate version of Japan.

One where all the monsters, creatures and myths are real.

Kappa, Oni, Kitsune, Yuki-Onna, Nure-Onna and every Yokai, they exist here.

Magic is obviously here as well, so yeah in this the world the supernatural is undeniably real.

You are a Dog Hanyo.

A Hanyo being a hybrid between a Human and a Yokai.

Your father was a great Demon named Toga while your mother was a noblewoman named Izayoi.

One of Izayoi's gaurdsman Takemaru who was also in love with Izayoi discovered this and was outraged.

Upon the night of your birth which was on a lunar eclipse, Takemaru stabbed and killed her.

However, she did have enough strength to give birth to you before succumbing to her wounds.

Fortunately, your father arrived and used his healing blade Tenseiga to resurrect her.

However, he had suffered wounds due to a previous battle with a Yokai named Ryukotsusei and was about to die himself.

He had just enough strength to give you your name, say goodbye and encourage Izayoi to run with you.

He perished that night, using what little strength he had left to prevent Takemaru from pursuing you both.

So you, (Y/N) were raised by your mortal mother.

Your childhood was a lonely one, as a Hanyo you weren't accepted by humans or Yokai.

The only love you received was from your mother and eventually she died while you were still young.

You were left with the Robe of the Fire-Rat which your mother received from your father.

You were powerless to defend yourself until you got older and this caused you to develop a hostile and defensive personality.

You'd often get into fights with others, mostly humans and Yokai who looked down on you.

Despite receiving no training your combat skills were impressive as you were able to even take down adults who had more combat experience.

You would steal to survive and feed yourself until you were discovered by a man named Hanzo a wandering Robin who became very interested in your fighting talent.

He approached you and you immediately attacked him only for him to easily knock you out.

You woke up late at night by a fire, the scent of delicious food having roused you.

Hanzo was preparing a meal for when you woke up and made you a deal.

He'd train you, feed you and allow you to travel him so long as he had someone to pass down his skills to.

You agreed and for a good while you both traveled together and he taught you the way of the sword.

However, one day Hanzo was ambushed by a mercenary group the leader of which had a grudge against him.

His name was Kai and apparently Hanzo and he used to be partners and the second-in-command of this mercenary group until eventually Hanzo left and wandered the land on his own.

His reason for doing this is unknown and it was never explained as Kai just killed Hanzo in front of you and was about to do the same to you.

However, your grief, sadness and rage caused you to go mad, your nails grew into Claws, your fangs became more  prominent and your eyes turned red.

You then effortlessly tore the mercenaries to pieces, Kai however escaped.

When you came to your senses you slowly approached Hanzo's corpse, dropped to your knees and cried at the loss of your adoptive father.

All you could do at that point was give him a proper burial, thank him for taking you in and just continue to wander.

Of course you took his katana and used it for self-defense should the need arise.

You are unsure of what to do now, all you can do is wander to find a purpose.

Along the way you meet various characters and creatures, more specifically a few girls who take an interest in you.
