Strawberry, raspberry, blueberry, blackberry (*not the phone) are not true berries according to science which sometimes complicates everything. Instead, the real berries are bananas, eggplants, grapes, and oranges.

People described the small,juicy fruits that can be picked off from plants as berries thousand years agobut science loves categorizing anything, so they came up with a precisedefinition of a berry that messes up people's brains.

To be a berry, a fruit must contain 3 distinct layers, Exocarp(the outer skin), Mesocarp (the fleshy middle), and Endocarp(the innermost part which holds the seeds). It must have two or more seeds, unlike cherries which within its skin contains one seed so it is categorized as drupes. Drupes only contain a seed, in fact, wild raspberries and blackberries consist of so many drupes so they are grouped as aggregate fruits. Moreover, a berry must be developed from one flower that has one ovary which makes blueberries, tomatoes, peppers, cranberries, eggplants, and kiwis part of the berry family. Also, it is the reason why strawberry and raspberry are off the list because their flowers have more than one ovary. Whereas oranges are grouped as hesperidium, a subtype of berry because it passed the characteristics of being a true berry at the same time part of a citrus family. These have three fleshy layers, have two or more seeds develop from one flower with one ovary, and contains a berry delicious juicy flesh and a pulpy rind.
